Abstract:Cobalt oxide nanocubes incorporated with reduced graphene oxide (rGO-Co3O4) was prepared by using simple one-step hydrothermal route. Crystallinity and structural characteristics of the nanocomposite were analyzed and confirmed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman analysis, respectively. The cubical shape of the Co3O4 nanostructures and the distribution of Co3O4 nanocubes on the surface of rGO sheets were identified through field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) mapping analysis, respectively. Raman spectra depicted the presence of D and G bands for GO and rGO with different ID/IG values and thus confirmed the reduction of GO into rGO. The electrochemical study reflects that the rGO-Co3O4 nanocomposite shows good electrocatalytic activity in oxidation of depression biomarker serotonin (5-HT) in phosphate buffer (pH 7.2). The detection of 5-HT was carried out by using rGO-Co3O4 nanocomposite modified glassy carbon electrode under dynamic condition using amperometry technique with a linear range of 1-10 μM. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were calculated and found to be 1.128 and 3.760 μM, respectively with a sensitivity value of 0.133 μΑ·μM-1. The sensor showed selectivity in the presence of different interferent species such as ascorbic acid, dopamine and uric acid.

Abstract:In this study, a new matrix based on a molybdenum disulfide-reduced graphene oxide hybrid (MoS2-rGO) was prepared and characterized. Modification of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with MoS2-rGO (MG) using drop casting allowed for the selective analysis of folic acid in the presence of a variety of interference species with a limit of detection of 10nM, a linear range between 0.01μM and 100μM with a sensitivity of 14µAµM(-1). In addition, the analytical performance of the proposed sensor was successfully conducted for the determination of folic acid in human serum samples, making MG-GC electrodes promising interfaces for bio-electrochemical applications.

Abstract:Sensitive and simultaneous detection of dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) by a sensor based on in-situ electrodeposited Au-Pt bimetallic nano-clusters decorated on graphene oxide (GO)-electrochemically reduced GO (ERGO) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was presented. The synergistic electrocatalytic effect of Au-Pt bimetallic nano-clusters and GO-REGO was investigated. First, the comparisons of electrochemical properties for GO, GO-REGO, Au (or Pt) nanoparticles, Au-Pt bimetallic nano-clusters decorated on GO-REGO were studied in detail. Second, electrochemical parameters of DA and UA were evaluated. It was observed that for the novel Au-Pt/GO-ERGO nanocomposites, GO-ERGO could provide much wider separation of the oxidation peak potentials of DA and UA, while Au-Pt bimetallic nano-clusters could speed up the electron transfer and enhance the electro-active areas. The linear range of detecting DA was from 6.82 x 10(-8) to 4.98 x 10(-2) M and limit of detection (LOD) was 2.07 x 10(-8) M (S/N = 3). The linear range of detecting UA was from 1.25 x 10(-7) to 8.28 x 10(-2) M and LOD was 4.07 x 10(-8) M (S/N = 3). The sensor was applied for the detection of DA and UA in human serum with good results. The sensor suggested that 3D metal-GO nanocomposites were superior materials for the fabrication of novel electrochemical sensors. (C) 2015 Elsevier By. All rights reserved.
Simple Sonochemical Synthesis of Cupric Oxide Sphere Decorated Reduced Graphene Oxide Composite for the Electrochemical Detection of Flutamide Drug in Biological Samples

Abstract:Reduced graphene oxide/cupric oxide (RGO/CuO) composites were developed by a simple, eco-friendly sonochemical method. This system has been explored as a potential electrocatalyst toward the electrochemical detection of flutamide. The prepared RGO/CuO composite was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectra studies. In addition, the electrochemical properties of the prepared electrode were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and chronoamperometry techniques. The RGO/CuO composite modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) exhibits high electrocatalytic activity toward the detection of flutamide. The RGO/CuO/GCE modified electrode also detects flutamide with a low detection limit (0.001 μM), wide linear range (0.005 to 71.32 μM) and acceptable sensitivity (5.54 μA μM−1cm−2). A fabricated sensor showed good selectivity, repeatability, reproducibility and long-term operational stability. Appreciable recoveries were achieved for the detection of flutamide in water and in biological samples, demonstrating the practical feasibility of the RGO/CuO/GCE modified electrode.

Abstract:The electrochemical sensors for chloramphenicol (CAP) detection have been explored and applied in the field of food safety because of the striking merits of fast detection speed, high sensitivity and easy operation. The effective electrocatalysts possessing excellent catalytic activity for electrochemical reduction of CAP are highly desirable for determination of CAP. Herein, we developed high-performance electrochemical CAP sensor based on MoS2 modified reduced graphene oxide (MoS2-rGO) hybrids, prepared by one-pot hydrothermal synthesis method. The successful deposition of MoS2 onto rGO nanosheets was confirmed by several characterizations, including X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Most importantly, the sensing performances of electrochemical CAP sensor based on MoS2-rGO hybrids are better than the sensors based on MoS(2 )as well as rGO, including sensitivity of 4.566 mu A.mu M-1.cm(-2), linear range of 1-55 mu M and limit of detection of 0.6 mu M. The excellent sensing performances of MoS2-rGO hybrids-based CAP sensor are derived from the synergistic effects of MoS2 and rGO. As expected, rGO serves as conductive linker between electrolyte and electrode increasing electrons transfer rate. Meanwile, the deposition of MoS2 onto rGO leads to the formation of three-dimensional conductive networks further enhanced the surface active sites and electron transferring rate. For example, the MoS2-rGO-3 hybrids display large electrochemical surface area of 0.146 cm(2), and low interfacial resistance of 6.2 omega. The present protocol could be spread on synthesis of functional materials for constructing high-performance electrochemical sensors.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as porous materials have been widely used in electrochemical sensing field. Unfortunately, their low electrical conductivity and poor stability in the aqueous solution limit their application. To overcome these shortcomings, in this study, a novel reduced graphene oxide-encapsulated Ce-MOF (RGO@Ce-MOF) composite was synthesized by using a simple and green method. Ce-MOF and GO were firstly casted onto glassy carbon electrode, respectively, and then GO was reduced to RGO through electrochemical reduction strategy. The proposed encapsulated structure of RGO@Ce-MOF effectively improved the stability of Ce-MOF by preventing decomposition of MOF in solution. The combination of RGO and Ce-MOF can also significantly promote the conductivity of composite. Then, the obtained RGO@Ce-MOF composite was utilized as electrode material for the detection of dichlorophen (Dcp), a halogenated phenolic intermediate for synthesis of pesticide. The electrochemical properties of the proposed sensor were investigated by electrochemical techniques in detail. Benefiting from the synergy between Ce-MOF and RGO, the RGO@Ce-MOF can be used to detect Dcp with a wide linear range from 0.02 mu M to 10 mu M and a low detection limit of 0.007 mu M (S/N = 3). Furthermore, the RGO@Ce-MOF electrode showed acceptable reproducibility and good selectivity. This method was applied to detect Dcp in the real samples with satisfying results.

Abstract:Using a simple drop-casting technique, we successfully fabricated a sensitive electrochemical sensor based on the composite of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) deposited on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for individual and simultaneous measurements of hydroquinone (HQ), dopamine (DA), and uric acid (UA). The nanocomposite of RGO/MWCNT was further characterized in terms of its structural properties, surface morphology, and topography using Raman, FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM, HRTEM, and AFM. Then, the proposed sensor for simultaneous measurement of HQ, DA, and UA based on RGO/MWCNT-modified GCE was investigated for its electrochemical behavior and electroanalytical performances using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). In addition, the composition ratio between RGO and MWCT was 1 : 1 showing the highest electrochemical response for simultaneous detection of HQ, DA, and UA. Owing to the synergistic effect between RGO and MWCNT leading to excellent conductivity properties, the proposed sensor exhibited improved electrochemical response at pH 7 toward the oxidation processes of HQ, DA, and UA on the surface of modified electrode. The proposed sensor demonstrated three well-defined anodic peaks of these analytes with their linear concentrations ranges of 3.0-150.0 μM for HQ, 4.0-100.0 μM for DA, and 2.0-70.0 μM for UA. The limit of detection values for the simultaneous detection of HQ, DA, and UA were found as follows 0.400 ± 0.014, 0.500 ± 0.006, and 0.300 ± 0.016 μM, respectively. The additional features of this proposed sensor are high reproducibility and stability for the simultaneous detection of HQ, DA, and UA with negligible interference effect from interferents such as Mg2+, K+, Cl-, ascorbic acid, and glucose. An acceptable percentage of recovery was also shown by this sensor for simultaneous measurements of HQ, DA, and UA using 6 samples of human urine. In summary, the RGO/MWCNT nanocomposite has been shown to be a promising platform for rapid, simple, and reliable determination of simultaneous measurements of HQ, DA, and UA in practical applications.

Abstract:Catechol, a polyphenolic molecule and significant organic chemical intermediate, is a highly dangerous environmental contaminant due to its unpredictable nature and potential harm to both humans and the environment. This study presents the development of Sn MOF@rGO-650, identified as a hollow cube by SEM and TEM, created by carbonizing rGO on the surface of Sn MOF after in situ encapsulation. The Sn MOF@rGO-650 modified glassy carbon electrode was successfully constructed for the electrochemical detection of catechol. Under optimal conditions, the sensor exhibited a detection limit of 33 nM, a linear range of 0.20 μM-28 μM, and good long-term stability and reproducibility. This work proves for the first time that Sn MOF@rGO-650 composites can effectively detect catechol in real environmental water samples, achieving recoveries between 95.7 % and 104.8 %, and is validated in UV spectroscopy, which highlights its potential for practical applications.
Poly(N-methyl pyrrole) decorated rGO nanocomposite: A novel ultrasensitive and selective carbon monoxide sensor

Abstract:An ultrasensitive and selective carbon monoxide (CO) sensor based on poly(N-methyl pyrrole)/reduced graphene oxide (P(NMP)/rGO) nanocomposites working at room temperature (RT) has been presented. A unique three-step approach has been introduced to ensure the preparation of a highly conductive and water-soluble rGO. P(NMP)/rGO nanocomposite was materialized through the inexpensive and straightforward self-assembled micellar soft-template polymerization route in the presence of rGO. The P(NMP)/rGO based sensor demonstrates outstanding response upon exposure to a broad concentration of CO ranging from 10 ppm to 275 ppm. The experimental results revealed that incorporation of rGO with P(NMP) nanosphere improved the sensor response (231.5 % to 75 ppm), leading to fast response and recovery characteristics (40 s / 36 s) and excellent selectivity at RT. The lowest detection limit of P(NMP)/rGO nanocomposite-based sensor for CO is calculated to be 1.042 ppm. Based on the outcomes of this investigation, it is believed that the proposed sensor, with its inexpensive and simple construction method, along with its remarkable performance towards CO, might be a wonderful option for real-time detection of CO.

Abstract:A Ni-MOF superstructure composed of 2D nanosheet (2D Ni-MOFss) was prepared and further combined with reduce graphene oxide (rGO) for electrochemical detection of acetaminophen (AP). The structure and properties of the 2D Ni-MOFss were characterized by SEM, XRD, XPS, and electrochemical method. The loosened 2D lamella structure endowed the 2D Ni-MOFss with improved electrocatalysis and low charge transfer resistance than bulky Ni-MOF. After integration with rGO, the composite 2D Ni-MOFss/rGO shows significantly enhanced catalysis for redox reaction of AP with high current response and low over-potential. An electrochemical sensor for AP based on the 2D Ni-MOFss/rGO shows a wide linear range of 0.036 to 50 μM, and a low detection limit of 0.012 μM. The sensor with high sensitivity, good selectivity, and stability also show satisfied recovery for detecting AP in real sample. The facile preparation and enhanced catalysis make these 2D MOF composite attractive materials for electrochemical sensors.

Abstract:A three dimensional (3D) nanostructured composite based on the self-assembly of MoS2 nanospheres and polyaniline (PANI) loaded on reduced graphene oxide (denoted by 3D MoS2-PANI/rGO) was prepared via a feasible one-pot hydrothermal process. The 3D MoS2-PANI/rGO nanocomposite not only exhibits good functionality and bioaffinity but also displays high electrochemical catalytic activity. As such, the developed 3D MoS2-PANI/rGO nanocomposite can be employed as the sensing platform for simultaneously detecting small biomolecules, i.e., ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), and uric acid (UA). The peak currents obtained from the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) measurements depended linearly on the concentrations in the wide range from 50 mu M to 8.0 mM, 5.0 to 500 mu M, and 1.0 to 500 mu M, giving low detection limits of 22.20, 0.70, and 0.36 mu M for AA, DA, and UA, respectively. Furthermore, the 3D MoS2-PANI/rGO-based electrochemical sensor also exhibited high selectivity, good reproducibility and stability toward small molecule detection. The present sensing strategy based on 3D MoS2-PANI/rGO suggests a good reliability in the trace determination of electroactive biomolecules.

Abstract:Acetaminophen (ACP), a common analgesic and antipyretic medication, can harm the liver when overdosed and its metabolites can contaminate the environment, so it is necessary to monitor the concentration precisely and reliably. In this work, we successfully synthesized cerium oxide/nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (CeO2/N-rGO) composite nanomaterials using a one-step hydrothermal method. Using composite nanomaterials, we created an electrochemical sensing detection platform for ACP detection. The synthesized materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The constructed electrochemical sensor exhibits good ACP detection ability under the synergistic effect of CeO2 and N-rGO. Under optimal experimental conditions, the sensor displayed a linear range for the detection of ACP of 1~200 μM and the lowest detection limit of 0.79 μM, exhibiting outstanding selectivity, stability, and repeatability. Furthermore, the sensor was effectively applied to detect ACP in tap water samples, which offers a wide range of possible applications in actual sample testing.

Abstract:Many pesticides are utilized in agriculture, due to the increased demand for food on a global scale. Among all other pesticides, carbofuran (CFN) is found to be the uppermost toxicity to humans. To find the presence of CFN in the food samples and environment. we need rapid, portable, and low-cost sensors. This paper describes the improvement of an electrochemical sensor-based catalyst for the detection of carbofuran (CFN) employing a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with cerium molybdate wrapped boron doped reduced graphene oxide (CMO/B- rGO/GCE). An innovative composite CMO/B-rGO was prepared by a co-precipitation process and its formation was confirmed by various techniques. CMO/B-rGO/GCE shows higher selectivity and sensitivity of 4.06 μA μM -1 cm -2 towards the detection of CFN. Furthermore, under optimized practical conditions, the CMO/B-rGO sensor exhibits a low detection limit (LOD) of 0.002 μM, and the linear ranges were 0.1 – 365 μM respectively. Additionally, we examined the practical applicability of the CFN in food samples.

Abstract:A new, simple, and effective one-step reduction method was applied to prepare a nanocomposite with spherical polycrystalline silver nanoparticles attached to the surface of reduced graphene oxide (Ag@rGO) at room temperature. Equipment such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to characterize the morphology and composition of the Ag@rGO nanocomposite. A novel electrochemical sensor for detecting L-cysteine was proposed based on fixing Ag@rGO onto a glassy carbon electrode. The electrocatalytic behavior of the sensor was studied via cyclic voltammetry and amperometry. The results indicate that due to the synergistic effect of graphene with a large surface area, abundant active sites, and silver nanoparticles with good conductivity and high catalytic activity, Ag@rGO nanocomposites exhibit significant electrocatalytic activity toward L-cysteine. Under optimal conditions, the constructed Ag@rGO electrochemical sensor has a wide detection range of 0.1–470 μM for L-cysteine, low detection limit of 0.057 μM, and high sensitivity of 215.36 nA M−1 cm−2. In addition, the modified electrode exhibits good anti-interference, reproducibility, and stability.

Abstract:An effective electrochemical sensing platform based on electrodeposited NiO nanoparticles and graphene oxide (GO) has been successfully developed for the simultaneous determination of uric acid (UA), dopamine (DA) and ascorbic acid (AA). The chemical composition and morphology characteristic of NiO/GO nanocomposite were investigated by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Furthermore, cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry were applied to explore the electrochemical properties of the constructed electrode. As a result, the linear amperometric responses to UA, DA and AA were achieved in the concentration ranges of 2.0 similar to 120, 2.0 similar to 60 and 40 similar to 700 mu M with detection limits of 0.14, 0.10 and 5.50 mu M, respectively. Moreover, the method functioned well on the determination of these three molecules in real urine samples with acceptable selectivity, favorable reproducibility and durable stability. The results suggested that this electrochemical sensing platform has potential application for the simultaneous detection of UA, DA and AA in biological samples.
Facile Synthesis of Reduced Graphene Oxide‐octahedral Mn 3 O 4 Nanocomposites as a Platform for the Electrochemical Determination of Metronidazole and Sulfamonomethoxine

Abstract:A facile synthesis strategy of reduced graphene oxide (RGO)‐octahedral Mn3O4 (oct‐Mn3O4) nanocomposites using in situ one‐pot hydrothermal reaction was reported. The RGO‐oct‐Mn3O4 nanocomposites were drop‐casted onto the surface of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to obtain RGO‐oct‐Mn3O4/GCE. DPV results revealed that the performance of RGO‐oct‐Mn3O4/GCE towards metronidazole displayed a linear ranging from 0.1 to 9.5 μM with a detection limit of 0.037 μM. For sulfamonomethoxine, it exhibited a linear ranging from 1 to 95 μM with a detection limit of 0.27 μM. Moreover, the proposed sensor had good anti‐interference capability, high stability, satisfactory reproducibility, and was successfully applied in real samples.

Abstract:Three-dimensional (3D) graphene-based nanomaterials have shown wide applications in electrochemical fields such as biosensors. In this study, we displayed a simple fabrication of 3D structural reduced graphene oxide (3D structural RGO) decorated with molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS2QDs) through a three-step reaction process. With its abundant raw materials, this strategy is economic and non-toxic. Various characterization techniques were utilized to characterize the morphologies of the synthesized MoS2QDs, graphene oxide (GO), and 3D structural RGO-MoS2QDs composites. Simultaneously, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was applied to characterize the structure and properties of composites. In order to understand the effects of the reaction period on the structure of 3D structural RGO-MoS2QDs, a series of samples with various reaction periods were prepared for morphological characterization. Finally, the fabricated 3D structural RGO-MoS2QDs composites were used to modify a glassy carbon electrode as an electrochemical non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor. The obtained results indicate that the fabricated electrochemical H2O2 sensor exhibits a wide detection range (0.01–5.57 mM), low detection limit (1.90 μM), good anti-interference performance, and long-time stability (18 days).
MOF-818 metal-organic framework-reduced graphene oxide/multiwalled carbon nanotubes composite for electrochemical sensitive detection of phenolic acids

Abstract:Herein, a novel bimetallic MOF-818@reduced graphene oxide/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (RGO/MWCNTs) composite was successfully synthesized by a facile solvothermal method. Characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements, MOF-818@RGO/MWCNTs composite possesses hierarchical porous structures, good electrical conductivity and abundant active sites. The MOF-818@RGO/MWCNTs/GCE exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity to phenolic acid compounds: caffeic acid (CA), chlorogenic acid (CGA) and gallic acid (GA). The sensor shows two linear ranges from 0.2 to 7 μM and 7-50 μM with a high sensitivity of 12.89 μA/μM for the detection of CA, a low detection limit of 5.7 nM and an excellent sensitivity of 12.50 μA/μM in the ranges of 0.1-3 μM and 3-20 μM for CGA detection, as well as a comparable electrochemical performance for GA. The sensor was used to detect CA, CGA and GA in biological samples and the results of quantitative recoveries for each compounds were satisfactory. We envision that the proposed strategy may stimulate extensive explorations of bimetallic MOFs with more active sites for the development of sensitive electrochemical sensors.

Abstract:Copper vanadate nanoparticles (Cu2V2O7) are synthesized by using a simple hydrothermal method and later anchored with sulfur-doped reduced graphene oxide (S-rGO) by using ultrasonication to form a hybrid nanocomposite. The synthesized composite underwent characterizations like X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Dynamic ray scattering-Ultra violet-visible spectroscopy (DRS-UV-visible) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopically revealed the triclinic pattern of the P 1̅ space group of α-Cu2V2O7 and the reduced oxygen deficiency state of metal centers (Cu+ or V4+) resulting with oxides of mixed-valence oxidative states and forming of Cu-O bond. Morphological analysis was carried out by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) with elemental mapping and EDX analysis. Furthermore, a novel electrochemical sensor is prepared by using the hybrid sCu2V2O7/S-rGO nanocomposite on to a disposable screen-printed carbon paste electrode (SPCE) for electrochemical sensing of antiandrogen drug nilutamide (NLT). This report reveals excellent activity in determining NLT with a low detection limit of 0.00459 nM for the linear range of 0.001-15 μM with high sensitivity of 26.2605 µA µM-1 cm-2. Further, electrode performance showed appreciable performance in real-time monitoring of biological samples like human blood serum, urine samples.
