Abstract:Brown et al. show that E1 clock neurons in Drosophila promote the switch from wake to sleep at dusk in a light- and time-dependent manner. By contrast, E2 neurons regulate canonical evening anticipation. These findings reveal clock network mechanisms that represent twilight, a period marked by both circadian time and light conditions.
