Abstract:Tai chi culture has a widespread influence on the world. Tai-chi diagrams, as the symbol of Tai chi culture, express the balance between Yin and Yang through the centrosymmetric pattern, but the balance connotation of Tai-chi diagrams needs a comprehensive understanding in more aspects, e.g., the balance in mechanics. In this work, we propose a mechanics theory to investigate the intrinsic mechanism of Yin–Yang equilibrium in ancient and modern Tai-chi diagrams. The model based on the minimum potential energy theory can effectively describe the interface curves of the Yin–Yang equilibrium by modifying boundary conditions, which is proven by experiments. The results show that the balance of Tai-chi diagrams is not only manifested in its symmetrical appearance but also reflected in its intrinsic balance configuration in mechanics. The model presented herein provides a new perspective to understand the balance of Tai-chi diagrams, which may provide useful insights into the applications of Tai-chi diagrams.

Abstract:This paper discusses the forming principle of Taiji Diagram from the perspective of the 24 Solar Terms, and then analyses the trend of Taiji Curves, the Polar Point of Taiji Diagram and the meaning of Yin-Yang fishes' eyes. This paper argues that the Taiji Diagram is originated from the S-style solar term model, or model of S-style Taiji Diagram combining solar term and Yin-yang fish. According to methods provided in this essay, the drawing work of Taiji Diagram could be simplified. This paper also further integrates the model diagram with the Chinese traditional medicine, especially with main and collateral channels, Zang-Fu organs and hours of daily time, and directly reveals the relationship among them and sets up two model figures: one is the S-style Taiji Yin-Yang Fishes and Main and Collateral Channels Model Figure, the other is S-style Taiji Yin-Yang Fish and Main and Collateral Channels Hours Model Figure. The Taiji Diagram described in this essay looks like that one black fish (symbolizing Yin) hugs with the other white fish (symbolizing Yang), which contains universal laws and rules of constraints between the Yin-Yang opposites, mutual usages with each other, balance of the ebb and flow, reciprocal transformation, etc. By analyzing the shift and transformation between Yin and Yang of the 24 solar terms in a year, it could not only explain the naming of the Twenty-Four Solar Terms, but also help preserve people's health with the combination between medicine and Yi science. The advantages of preventive medicine of traditional Chinese medicine will be high lighted.

Abstract:The theories of Yin-yang and Wuxing are the core theories in Chinese Traditional Medicine.It is very important to discover the relationships among the organelles and the implication of Yin-yang and Wuxing.In this paper,after summarizing the researches in cell,we explain the implication of Yin-yang and Wuxing in cell which are based on both metabolism and central dogma,then group the organelles into Wuxing.According to the implication of Yin-yang and Wuxing in cell,the life is regarded as a kind of metabolism,which is guided by genes.

Abstract:The article continues an analysis of the genetic 8-dimensional Yin-Yang-algebra. This algebra was revealed in a course of matrix researches of structures of the genetic code and it was described in the author's articles arXiv:0803.3330 and arXiv:0805.4692. The article presents data about many kinds of cyclic permutations of elements of the genetic code in the genetic (8x8)-matrix [C A; U G](3) of 64 triplets, where C, A, U, G are letters of the genetic alphabet. These cyclic permutations lead to such reorganizations of the matrix form of presentation of the initial genetic Yin-Yang-algebra that arisen matrices serve as matrix forms of presentations of new Yin-Yang-algebras as well. They are connected algorithmically with Hadamard matrices. The discovered existence of a hierarchy of the cyclic changes of types of genetic Yin-Yang-algebras allows thinking about new algebraic-genetic models of cyclic processes in inherited biological systems including models of cyclic metamorphoses of animals. These cycles of changes of the genetic 8-dimensional algebras and of their 8-dimensional numeric systems have many analogies with famous facts and doctrines of modern and ancient physiology, medicine, etc. This viewpoint proposes that the famous idea by Pythagoras (about organization of natural systems in accordance with harmony of numerical systems) should be combined with the idea of cyclic changes of Yin-Yang-numeric systems in considered cases. This second idea reminds of the ancient idea of cyclic changes in nature. From such algebraic-genetic viewpoint, the notion of biological time can be considered as a factor of coordinating these hierarchical ensembles of cyclic changes of types of the genetic multi-dimensional algebras.

Abstract:In philosophical idea,so long as we break the and acknowledge the three,then the many is self-evident,because is the bridge leading to many.Ancient Chinese philosophy of yin and yang is a typical binary relations doctrine.The notion of divides into two,to combine two to one just embodies the generalization of the yin and yang dualistic opposite concepts.Philosopher Yang Xiong in the Western Han Dynasty firstly put forward trichotomy,and constructed another Confucian symbol system of Taixuan,which was different from the dichotomy of Zhouyi.As a result,he put forward varied doctrine of multiplies three is nine.As early as in the Western Zhou oynasty,Shi Bo expressed a multiple integrated complex ideology which was summarized as synthesizing different things could create a new thing,synthesizing same things could not do it.The five element theory also has the meaning and value of overcoming simple concepts of so as to think that the origin of the world is established on complicated and multiform essential elements and their interaction.

Abstract:It is a common aim of psychologists to construct a definition model with universal cultural applicability for mental health. These models can be divided into two types in terms of definition: One is the negative mental health definition model based on the absence of mental illness symptoms; the other is the definition model of positive mental health based on subjective feelings, such as happiness and social identity. However, neither of these definitions can properly explain Chinese people’s understanding of mental health or how mental health is dealt with in Chinese culture. This paper proposes a Yin–Yang definition model of mental health based on the theory of personality of Confucianism and Taoism. This model not only properly describes the understanding of mental health in traditional Chinese culture, but also explains East Asian psychotherapy and mental health practices in the context of Chinese culture.

[The meridian flowing and ancient Chinese philosophy]

Abstract:The theories of Yin - Yang and Five - Evolutive phase were extensively applied after pre - Qin and both Han dynasties. In the Song - Ming dynasties, the background of New Confucianism, the achievements of art of Yi(Changes) advocated by the "School of Configuration - Arithmatic" were applied, in which the method of "Adopting of Jia" was almost entirely derived from the above school, mixing the theories of heavenly stems - earthly branches, Five - evolutive phases and Yin - Yang as a whole. An ancient system of Chronological treatment was thus established creatively by integrating clinical experience together. The system is a tight system of grafting medicine and philosophy formed on the basis of successfully utilizing the philosophical framework, thinking proposed by ancient physicians with keen observation and deep ponderation. The system is, by then, an advanced one, which is also an inevitable one.

Abstract:Developmental genetic models and analysis methods for quantitative traits are presented.Developmental genetic models should reflect the genetic and developmental essence,and provide the information of the factors influencing the genetic variation and the developmental process.Direct effect models,which based on the population genetics,may be suitable to analyze simple traits with single gene.Epigenetic models can decompose the whole genetic variation into direct and epigenetic components (maternal effects and epigenetic interaction effects),so that biological mechanism can be better understood.Growth trace models effectively synthesize the developmental dynamics of components of complex traits.With them,continuous,compositive,detailed,and dynamic information of development is available.Conditional analysis method can not only estimate the net effects in a specific time interval,but also depose them into genetic components and help to appreciate the contributions of different effects.

Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Abstract:Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treats qi as the core of the human life systems. Starting with a hypothetical correlation between TCM qi and the entropy theory, we address in this article a holistic model for evaluating and unveiling the rule of TCM life systems. Several new concepts such as acquired life entropy (ALE), acquired life entropy flow (ALEF) and acquired life entropy production (ALEP) are propounded to interpret TCM life systems. Using the entropy theory, mathematical models are established for ALE, ALEF and ALEP, which reflect the evolution of life systems. Some criteria are given on physiological activities and pathological changes of the body in different stages of life. Moreover, a real data-based simulation shows life entropies of the human body with different ages, Cold and Hot constitutions and in different seasons in North China are coincided with the manifestations of qi as well as the life evolution in TCM descriptions. Especially, based on the comparative and quantitative analysis, the entropy-based model can nicely describe the evolution of life entropies in Cold and Hot individuals thereby fitting the Yin Yang theory in TCM. Thus, this work establishes a novel approach to interpret the fundamental principles in TCM, and provides an alternative understanding for the complex life systems.

Abstract:Algebraic properties of the genetic code are analyzed. The investigations of the genetic code on the basis of matrix approaches ("matrix genetics") are described. The degeneracy of the vertebrate mitochondria genetic code is reflected in the black-and-white mosaic of the (8*8)-matrix of 64 triplets, 20 amino acids and stop-signals. This mosaic genetic matrix is connected with the matrix form of presentation of the special 8-dimensional Yin-Yang-algebra and of its particular 4-dimensional case. The special algorithm, which is based on features of genetic molecules, exists to transform the mosaic genomatrix into the matrices of these algebras. Two new numeric systems are defined by these 8-dimensional and 4-dimensional algebras: genetic Yin-Yang-octaves and genetic tetrions. Their comparison with quaternions by Hamilton is presented. Elements of new "genovector calculation" and ideas of "genetic mechanics" are discussed. These algebras are considered as models of the genetic code and as its possible pre-code basis. They are related with binary oppositions of the Yin-Yang type and they give new opportunities to investigate evolution of the genetic code. The revealed fact of the relation between the genetic code and these genetic algebras is discussed in connection with the idea by Pythagoras: "All things are numbers". Simultaneously these genetic algebras can be utilized as the algebras of genetic operators in biological organisms. The described results are related with the problem of algebraization of bioinformatics. They take attention to the question: what is life from the viewpoint of algebra?

Abstract:"Book of Changes" and "Shangshu" are the two important sources of ancient Chinese idea of harmony.Yin and Yang are the two basic concepts of "Book of Changes".The harmony and balance of the two concepts is the key to the existence and development of all the things.And there are such thought of harmony in Yizhuan,a book of interpretation to "Book of Changes",and Shangshu.Sima Qian in his book of Shiji put forward the concept of harmony on the basis of Shangshu.Traditional Chinese culture is rich in the thought of harmony,which provides vital cultural resources for us to construct the harmonious socialist society.
A Tentative Study on the Mathematical Language System in Zeguxizhai Suanxue

Abstract:In Li Shanlanu0027s Zeguxizhai Suanxue(Mathematics from the Zeguxizhai-Studio), thirteen books are referred to. This list of books represents an important stage of how the traditional Chinese mathematical language system is converted to the modern Western language system. In this collection, there exist 339 mathematical terms. Among these, 192 terms derived from the Chinese traditional mathematical terminology, 42 terms from al-ready translated terminology, and 105 terms are created terminology by the author. Besides, notations are formed from words, graphics and created pictographs, rather than Latin letters. There exist seven kinds of expressions showing the following grammatical relationship: hypothetical relation(if),conditional(thus), time sequence(then), causal relation(so), conjunction(and), adversative(however), and equivalence(similar). These represent the Chinese mode of recognizing modern mathematical problems.

Abstract:The theory of the facing & backing between the 12 yin and yang positions asserted by Wang Fuzhi(1619-1692) is based upon his dual emphasis on both Qian(symbolizing Heaven) and Kun(symbolizing Earth) and deduced from the idea that substance and function share the same origin.He draws on this idea to criticize the mechanical permutation and fixation of the image-numerology and takes use of thing's self-sufficiency,self-independence and self-all-inclusiveness to testify the untenablity of the three orders of the hexagrams manifested in the Orderly Sequence of the Hexagrams and underline his own unique system of the hexagrams' order.The philosophical principle he would like to demonstrate is that the manifest possesses facing and backing,yin and yang are indispensible,the quality and function of the substance simultaneously dwell in the individual and at the same time the individual gains its subjectivity,activity and independency.

Abstract:To avoid the one-sidedness and abuse of the rule of xieju (principle of applying a measuring square), ZHANG Taiyan redefines zhong-shu, the Confucian golden rule, as two separate yet complementary principles, the idea of which is most manifestly drawn from Zhuangzi's "Qiwulun" ("Discourse on Making All Things Equal"). Zhang's association of zhong-shu and qiwu is based upon his vision of equality premised on recognition of and respect for differences. In Zhang's reading of the Zhuangzi in light of Yogacara, the crucial "concept matching" (geyi) is the explanation of cheng xin as seeds in the alaya consciousness. Cheng xin in this sense not only refers to the natural pattern of things and so is the basis for inference and deduction, but also serves as the means to deal with the diversity of opinions. In moral practice, Zhang proposes the liang xing approach of his qiwu philosophy: to recognize the equal worth of all beings on one hand, and to take the particular characteristics and desires of individuals into account on the other. Thus, it requires the dual practice of zhong and shu: to acquire firsthand observation through personal experience, and to imagine oneself in the position of the other.

Abstract:“Liu Hui’s Commentary of the Chiu Chang Suan Shu” is the best commentary for the most important basic book in Chinese ancient mathematics, the Chiu Chang Suan Shu, and it contains large numbers of logical reasoning and logical ideas. Abundant logical ideas and logical contents in Chinese ancient mathematics were contained in Liu Hui’s Commentary. Based on analyzing the items in Liu Hui’s Commentary and relative ancient literatures, abundant logic contents in the Commentary and the logical contents in ancient mathematics were demonstrated from three angles including concept, logical method and symbolic logic in the article. The relations between calculation and proof, arithmetic and logic in ancient mathematics were also expounded in the article, and the conclusions showed that there was proof logic or arithmetic logic existing in the ancient times of China.

Abstract:Zangxiang theory is the core of TCM theory.The thinking model was set up in this paper based on TCM zangxiang theory and three-yin and three-yang system.This model integrated the yin-yang theory,five elements theory,zangfu theory,meridians theory and qi-xue-jin-ye theory as a whole,which plays a role of carrier of the thought of guessing interior by exterior manifestations in zangxiang theory.The study has contributed to TCM basic theory transforming into practical technique,promoting the research of TCM zangxiang theory,and playing a leading role in the development of modern life sciences.
