Abstract:Given an affine Poisson algebra, that is singular one may ask whether there is an associated symplectic form. In the smooth case the answer is obvious: for the symplectic form to exist the Poisson tensor has to be invertible. In the singular case, however, derivations do not form a projective module and the nondegeneracy condition is more subtle. For a symplectic singularity one may naively ask if there is indeed an analogue of a symplectic form. We examine an example of a symplectic singularity, namely the double cone, and show that here such a symplectic form exists. We use the naive de Rham complex of a Lie-Rinehart algebra. Our analysis of the double cone uses Gröbner bases calculations. We also give an alternative construction of the symplectic form that generalizes to categorical quotients of cotangent lifted representations of finite groups. We use the same formulas to construct a symplectic form on the simple cone, seen as a Poisson differential space and generalize the construction to linear symplectic orbifolds. We present useful auxiliary results that enable to explicitly determine generators for the module of derivations an affine variety. The latter may be understood as a differential space.

Abstract:This is the first of a series of papers where we relate tangent cones ofHermitian-Yang-Mills connections at an isolated singularity to the complexalgebraic geometry of the underlying reflexive sheaf, when the sheaf is locallymodelled on the pull-back of a holomorphic vector bundle from the projectivespace. In this paper we shall impose an extra assumption that the graded sheafdetermined by the Harder-Narasimhan-Seshadri filtrations of the vector bundleis reflexive. In general we conjecture that the tangent cone is uniquelydetermined by the double dual of the associated graded object of aHarder-Narasimhan-Seshadri filtration of an algebraic tangent cone, which is acertain torsion-free sheaf on the projective space. In this paper we also provethis conjecture when there is an algebraic tangent cone which is locally freeand stable.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of cone complexes to conveniently handle the quotients of simplicial complexes by group actions. Cone complexes are a generalization of simplicial complexes described purely in terms of posets (partially ordered sets). Our main focus of this paper is to study group actions on cone complexes, and compare them with the case of small categories. We clarify how conditions of group actions related to quotients are changed by functors between cone complexes and small categories.

Abstract:The algebra of symmetric tensors $S(X):= H^0(X, \sf{S}^{\bullet} T_X)$ of a projective manifold $X$ leads to a natural dominant affinization morphism $$ \varphi_X: T^*X \longrightarrow \mathcal{Z}_X:= \text{Spec} S(X). $$ It is shown that $\varphi_X$ is birational if and only if $T_X$ is big. We prove that if $\varphi_X$ is birational, then $\mathcal{Z}_X$ is a symplectic variety endowed with the Schouten--Nijenhuis bracket if and only if $\mathbb{P} T_X$ is of Fano type, which is the case for smooth projective toric varieties, smooth horospherical varieties with small boundary and the quintic del Pezzo threefold. These give examples of a distinguished class of conical symplectic varieties, which we call symplectic orbifold cones.

Abstract:We discuss the cone and contraction theorem in a suitable complex analytic setting. More precisely, we establish the cone and contraction theorem of normal pairs for projective morphisms between complex analytic spaces. This result is a starting point of the minimal model program for complex analytic log canonical pairs. In this paper, we are mainly interested in normal pairs whose singularities are worse than kawamata log terminal singularities.

On the natural nullcones of the symplectic and general linear groups

Abstract:Consider a group acting on a polynomial ring $S$ over a field $K$ by degree-preserving $K$-algebra automorphisms. The invariant ring $R$ is a graded subring of $S$; let $\mathfrak{m}_R$ denote the homogeneous maximal ideal of $R$. Several key properties of the invariant ring and its embedding in $S$ can be deduced by studying the nullcone $S/\mathfrak{m}_R S$ of the group action. This includes, for example, the finite generation of the invariant ring and the purity of the embedding. In this article, we study the nullcones arising from the natural actions of the symplectic and general linear groups. For the natural representation of the symplectic group, the invariant ring is the ring defined by the principal Pfaffians of a fixed even size of a generic alternating matrix. We show that the nullcone of this embedding is a strongly $F$-regular ring in positive characteristic, and hence in characteristic zero, a ring of strongly $F$-regular type. Independent of characteristic, we give a complete description of the divisor class group of the nullcone and determine precisely when it is Gorenstein. We also show that the nullcone ideal has a squarefree initial ideal. For the natural representation of the general linear group, the invariant ring is a generic determinantal ring. The nullcone of this embedding is typically a non-equidimensional ring. The irreducible components of the nullcone are the varieties of complexes of length two, as introduced by Buchsbaum and Eisenbud. We show that each of these irreducible components define strongly $F$-regular rings in positive characteristic. We also show that the Frobenius splitting of the varieties of complexes can be chosen compatibly; it follows that the nullcone is an $F$-pure ring. We also show that the nullcone ideal and the ideals defining the varieties of complexes have squarefree initial ideals with respect to the same monomial order.

The cone conjecture for vector-valued Siegel automorphic forms

Abstract:We prove that the effective cone of automorphic vector bundles on the Siegel modular variety of rank $n$ in characteristic $p$ at a place of good reduction is encoded by the stack of $G$-zips of Pink--Wedhorn--Ziegler. Specifically, we show that the degree zero cohomology groups of automorphic vector bundles always vanish outside of the zip cone. This result is a special case of a general conjecture formulated by the Goldring and the author for all Hodge-type Shimura varieties of good reduction. In the case $n=3$, we give explicit conditions for the vanishing of the $0$-th cohomology group. Finally, in the course of the proof we define the notion of automorphic forms of trivial-type and study their properties.

Abstract:This article generalizes the theory of shifted symplectic structures to the relative context and non-geometric stacks. We describe basic constructions that naturally appear in this theory: shifted cotangent bundles and the AKSZ procedure. Along the way, we also develop the theory of shifted symplectic groupoids presenting shifted symplectic structures on quotients and define a deformation to the normal cone for shifted Lagrangian morphisms.

Abstract:In this paper, we are interested in the decomposition of the tensor product of two representations ofa symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebra ${\mathfrak g}$, or more precisely in the tensor cone of~${\mathfrak g}$.As usual, we parametrize the integrable, highest weight (irreducible) representations of~${\mathfrak g}$ by their highest weights. Then, the triples of such representations such that the last one is contained in the tensor product of the first two is a semigroup.This semigroup generates a rational convex cone $ \Gamma({\mathfrak g})$ called tensor cone.If ${\mathfrak g}$~is finite-dimensional, $\Gamma({\mathfrak g})$~is a polyhedral convex cone. In 2006, Belkale and the first author described this cone by an explicit finite list of <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://inequalities.In" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> 2010, this list of inequalities was proved to be irredundant by the second author:each such inequality corresponds to a codimension one <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://face.In" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> general, $\Gamma({\mathfrak g})$~is neither polyhedral, nor closed.Brown and the first author obtained a list of inequalities that describe $\Gamma({\mathfrak g})$ conjecturally. Here, we prove that each of these inequalities corresponds to a codimension one face of~$\Gamma({\mathfrak g})$.

Abstract:For any star-shaped toric domain in $\mathbb{C}^2$, we define a filtered chain complex which conjecturally computes positive $S^1$-equivariant symplectic homology of the domain. Assuming this conjecture, we show that the limit $\lim_{k \to \infty} c^{\mathrm{GH}}_k(X)/k$ exists for any star-shaped toric domain $X \subset \mathbb{C}^2$, where $c^{\mathrm{GH}}_k$ denotes the $k$-th Gutt-Hutchings capacity.

Abstract:We identify R^7 as the pure imaginary part of octonions. Then the multiplication in octonions gives a natural almost complex structure for the unit 6-sphere. It is known that a cone over a surface M in S^6 is an associative submanifold of R^7 if and only if M is almost complex in S^6. In this paper, we show that the Gauss-Codazzi equation for almost complex curves in S^6 is the equation for primitive maps associated to the 6-symmetric space G_2/T^2, and use this to explain some of the known results. Moreover, the equation for S^1-symmetric almost complex curves in S^6 is the periodic Toda lattice associated to G_2, and a discussion of periodic solutions is given.

Abstract:On a compact Riemann surface (X) with finite punctures (P_1, \ldots, P_k), we define toric curves as multi-valued, totally unramified holomorphic maps to (\mathbb{P}^n) with monodromy in a maximal torus of ({\rm PSU}(n+1)). \textit{Toric solutions} for the ({\rm SU}(n+1)) system on $X\setminus\{P_1,\ldots, P_k\}$ are recognized by their associated {\it toric} curves in (\mathbb{P}^n). We introduce a character n-ensemble as an (n)-tuple of meromorphic one-forms with simple poles and purely imaginary periods, generating toric curves on (X) minus finitely many points. We establish on $X$ a correspondence between character $n$-ensembles and toric solutions to the ({\rm SU}(n+1)) system with finitely many cone singularities. Our approach not only broadens seminal solutions for up to two cone singularities on the Riemann sphere, as classified by Jost-Wang (Int. Math. Res. Not., (6):277-290, 2002) and Lin-Wei-Ye (Invent. Math., 190(1):169-207, 2012), but also advances beyond the limits of Lin-Yang-Zhong's existence theorems (J. Differential Geom., 114(2):337-391, 2020) by introducing a new solution class.

Abstract:In a series of work [Wor22], [Wor21] and [CW20], algebraic capacities were introduced in an algebraic manner for polarized algebraic surfaces and applied to the symplectic embedding problems. In this paper, we give a reformulation of algebraic capacities in terms of only a tamed pair of symplectic form and almost complex structure. We show that they actually only depend on the cohomology class of the symplectic form for a rational manifold. Since it is not known that any symplectic form on a rational manifold is Kähler, this novel formulation potentially is more general on a rational manifold. Additionally, for manifolds with $b^+=1$, we derive asymptotic results that are parallel to the context of ECH(Embedded Contact Homology) and algebraic settings. When assuming $c_1\cdot [\omega]>0$ on rational manifolds, we further introduce a sequence of tropical polynomials which will succinctly describe those capacities viewed as functions over the domain parametrizing such symplectic forms. As an application, we give a purely symplectic proof of the correspondence between algebraic capacities and ECH capacities for smooth toric surfaces.

Abstract:The nilpotence variety for extended supersymmetric quantum mechanics is a cone over a quadric in projective space. The pure spinor correspondence, which relates the description of off-shell supermultiplets to the classification of modules over the corresponding hypersurface ring, reduces to a classical problem of linear algebra. Spinor bundles, which correspond to maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules, serve as basic building blocks. Koszul duality appears as a deformed version of the Bernstein-Gel'fand-Gel'fand correspondence that we make fully concrete. We illustrate in numerous examples the close relationship between these connections and the powerful graphical technology of Adinkras, which appear as a decategorification of special complexes on quadrics. We emphasize the role of R-symmetry for recovering higher-dimensional gauge and gravity multiplets.

Abstract:We apply Zhang's almost Kähler Nakai-Moishezon theorem and Li-Zhang's comparison of $J$-symplectic cones to establish a stability result for the symplectomorphism group of a rational $4$-manifold $M$ with Euler number up to $12$. As a corollary, we also derive a stability result for the space of embedded symplectic balls in $M$. A noteworthy feature of our approach is that we systematically explore various spaces and groups associated to a symplectic cohomology class $u$ rather than with a single symplectic form $\omega$. To this end, we prove a weaker version of the tamed $J$-inflation procedures of D. McDuff and O. Buse that fixes a gap in their original formulations.

Cone-equivalent nilpotent groups with different Dehn functions

Abstract:For every $k\geqslant 3$, we exhibit a simply connected $k$-nilpotent Lie group $N_k$ whose Dehn function behaves like $n^k$, while the Dehn function of its associated Carnot graded group $\mathsf{gr}(N_k)$ behaves like $n^{k+1}$. This property and its consequences allow us to reveal three new phenomena. First, since those groups have uniform lattices, this provides the first examples of pairs of finitely presented groups with bilipschitz asymptotic cones but with different Dehn functions. The second surprising feature of these groups is that for every even integer $k \geqslant 4$ the centralized Dehn function of $N_k$ behaves like $n^{k-1}$ and so has a different exponent than the Dehn function. This answers a question of Young. Finally, we turn our attention to sublinear bilipschitz equivalences (SBE). Introduced by Cornulier, these are maps between metric spaces inducing bi-Lipschitz homeomorphisms between their asymptotic cones. These can be seen as weakenings of quasiisometries where the additive error is replaced by a sublinearly growing function $v$. We show that a $v$-SBE between $N_k$ and $\mathsf{gr}(N_k)$ must satisfy $v(n)\succcurlyeq n^{1/(2k + 2)}$, strengthening the fact that those two groups are not quasiisometric. This is the first instance where an explicit lower bound is provided for a pair of SBE groups.

Towards a characterization of toric hyperkähler varieties among symplectic singularities

Abstract:Let $(X, \omega)$ be a conical symplectic variety of dimension $2n$ which has a projective symplectic resolution. Assume that $X$ admits an effective Hamiltonian action of an $n$-dimensional algebraic torus $T^n$, compatible with the conical $\mathbf{C}^*$-action. A typical example of $X$ is a toric hyperkahler variety $Y(A,0)$. In this article, we prove that this property characterizes $Y(A,0)$ with $A$ unimodular. More precisely, if $(X, \omega)$ is such a conical symplectic variety, then there is a $T^n$-equivariant (complex analytic) isomorphism $\varphi: (X, \omega) \to (Y(A,0), \omega_{Y(A,0)})$ under which both moment maps are identified. Moreover $\varphi$ sends the center $0_X$ of $X$ to the center $0_{Y(A,0)}$ of $Y(A,0)$.
