Abstract:There is a widely accepted concept that sentimental people are much more than rational people. People usually make their purchasing choices by visual perceptions. In this study, we want to gain the main visual perceptions of materials in some special furnitures in the early phases in user experience design. We used Ethnography and self-reporting to study. We discovered that the main visual perceptions of materials in furniture user experience design of the target users in the near future of the next 1-2 years are comfortable, emotional, and simple. We proposed three basic solutions of emotional user experience design, which were based on context and scenarios. The actual demand of the target users could be more easily understood by designers, and more visual solutions could be used by designers.

Abstract:This study aims to explore that in contemporary product packaging design, emotional colour, as an important means of conveying emotions visually, can stimulate consumers' emotional resonance and enhance the attractiveness of product packaging. Through the analysis of the association of different colours in the consumer's psychology, combined with the design of pattern elements, the product packaging is more personalized and emotional characteristics. Reasonable use of emotional colour and pattern elements in product packaging design can effectively enhance product brand awareness and consumer purchase intention. In order to achieve the objective object of the product a transcendence and enhancement, so as to give the product itself a richer emotional value, enhance the competitiveness of the product market, for product promotion and marketing provides a new perspective and strategy.

Abstract:Unlike the other studies on emotional design in multimedia learning, the present study differentiated the two confounding variables of visual interface design and structured content to manipulate the instructional material. Specifically, we investigated how the visual aesthetics of positive emotional interface design influenced learners' cognitive processes, emotional valences, learning outcomes, and subjective experience. Eighty-one college students took part in the experimental study. They were divided into the three experimental groups: a holistic layout of positive emotional design group (HPED), a local layout of positive emotional design group (LPED), and a neutral emotional design group (ND). By using a mixed approach of questionnaires and eye tracking, we further explored the differences among the three groups in cognitive processing, learning outcomes, and subjective experience. Results indicated that the LPED group invested higher cognitive effort, put more attentional focus in the relevant knowledge content module, and achieved better learning performance (i.e., retention and transfer tests) in contrast to the HPED group and the ND group. However, no significant difference in dynamic changes of emotional state among the three groups was detected. The analytical results can provide researchers and practitioners with valuable insights into the positive emotional design of multimedia learning, which allows for the facilitation of mental engagement, learning outcomes and subjective perception.

Abstract:Based on the interactive food packaging design method based on the user's emotional experience, the specific food packaging design scheme is completed. On the basis of analyzing the current situation of the food industry, this paper discusses the competitive driving factors between the demand side and the enterprise side for food packaging, integrates the user's emotional experience into the reality of food packaging, and focuses on the specific practical solutions based on the user's emotional experience. Incorporating user emotional experience into food packaging design Yuan, 2022 and Liu, 2020 is beneficial to both the impact of food brands and the promotion of product sales. Incorporating user emotional experience has played a very important role in food market competition. At the same time, through practical cases, closely focusing on the user's emotional experience, it innovatively tried to convert users into core designers of product packaging and adopted a small-batch customized production and packaging mode. This plays a certain guiding and reference role for food packaging design. This paper takes the user's emotional experience as the research perspective and interactive packaging as the research object, uses the three-level theory of emotionality as the guide, explores the user's emotional experience path for packaging by means of literature analysis, fieldwork, case analysis, and experiments, and summarizes the design, principles, and methods.

Abstract:Children's food packaging is the most diverse and colorful of packaging designs. The difficulty lies in reflecting the characteristics of children's food, but also making children associate with it through the packaging, so that the packaging design can bring them more fun. Children as a consumer group have their own uniqueness. Children's physiological and psychological development different from adults in terms of food concerns. Some designers do not pay enough attention to the cognitive psychology of children, resulting in many children's food packaging lacking fun and not fully reflecting emotional care. This study introduces the theory of emotional design into the children's food packaging design, combining the knowledge of five senses design and other related fields to establish the emotional relationship between children and children's food packaging. Through literature review and data survey analysis, scientific and objective design principles are established. A questionnaire survey was used to understand children's preferences for packaging. 300 primary school students aged 7-12 were studied, and the results showed that food packaging that meets children's emotional needs can stimulate their desire to buy.

Abstract:This study aims to explain the present research status and trends in the field of Emotional Design of Packaging (EDOP). A total of 129 scholarly articles were selected from high-quality journals in the Web of Science (WoS) database, and a systematic review of the EDOP field was undertaken, utilising a combination of CiteSpace and VOSviewer for bibliometric analysis. The findings reveal substantial advancements over the past two decades, with prospects for continued expansion. There exists a pressing requirement for enhanced collaboration across countries, institutions, and authors within this field. The core research themes in this area are Emotional Communication of Brand Packaging, Emotional Triggers for Packaging Design, Emotional Experience and User Satisfaction, and Emotional Design and Consumer Behaviour. It is worth mentioning that these four research themes correspond to the evolutionary trend of EDOP research history, with crossovers between periods arranged in an overlapping relationship. Additionally, Sensory Characteristics of Food Packaging and Emotional Measurement of Users, Modelling the Relationship between Packaging Design, Branding and Consumer Behaviour, and the Role of Cigarette Packaging Design in Tobacco Marketing collectively form the fundamental knowledge base in this area. This study not only addresses the current research gap in this field but also provides valuable references and guidance for future researchers.

Abstract:Nowadays, a wide variety of labels of items are widely available, and human consumption is increasingly tailored to meet their individual needs. So, many businesses are starting to focus on improving the functionality of modern packaging. Sensorial paradigms and emotional reactions could change during the user-product interaction lifecycle. The designer's emotional imagination and past experiences are the backbone of conventional product package design, which has limitations due to unmanageable content and an absence of professional advice-the majority of previous research on emotional image analysis aimed to forecast the most common viewer emotions. Since the feelings a picture evokes are quite individual and vary from viewer to viewer, this overarching feeling isn't always enough for practical uses. The research presented an approach to packaging design evaluation based on image emotion perception computing (PDE-IEPC), which combines emotion perception technology with a deep LSTM (Long short-term model), resulting in an immersive and dynamic experience for the human senses. Emotion Perception Computing's Dynamic Multi-task Hypergraph Learning (DMHL) approach considers graphical data, social context, spatial evolution, and location, among other criteria, to evaluate packaging designs efficiently based on their emotional impact. Image-Emotion-Social-Net is a large dataset used to evaluate multidimensional and categorical attitude representation. The dataset is sourced from Flickr and contains over 1 million images presented by over 9000 users. Personalized emotion categorization is an area where research on this dataset shows that the suggested strategy outperforms many modern techniques. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a high packaging design quality rate of 94.1 %, a performance success rate of 97.5 %, and a mean square error rate of 2 % compared to other existing methods.

Abstract:Emotional design has been well recognized in the domain of human factors and ergonomics. In this chapter, we reviewed related models and methods of emotional design. We are motivated to encourage emotional designers to take multiple perspectives when examining these models and methods. Then we proposed a systematic process for emotional design, including affective-cognitive needs elicitation, affective-cognitive needs analysis, and affective-cognitive needs fulfillment to support emotional design. Within each step, we provided an updated review of the representative methods to support and offer further guidance on emotional design. We hope researchers and industrial practitioners can take a systematic approach to consider each step in the framework with care. Finally, the speculations on the challenges and future directions can potentially help researchers across different fields to further advance emotional design.

This means that while ensuring basic functions such as product protection and information display, it is also necessary to further deepen the cultural value of the product. Introducing traditional patterns into product packaging presents a brand new visual expression and ethnic emotional resonance, thereby forming an emotional and cultural sense of identity in the minds of consumers and promoting product sales.

Abstract:This study discussed the emotions associated with color schemes in packaging. Through four tea packaging design experiments, this study evaluated how participants responded emotionally to the shapes, patterns, and colors of color box packaging for tea products. In experiment 1, emotional response adjectives suitable for describing packaging designs were identified. In experiment 2, the most suitable shape design for tea packaging was identified. In experiment 3, a pattern fitness experiment was conducted to identify the most suitable pattern design for the packaging. Experiment 4 was conducted to assess the fitness of color schemes for the tea packaging with a dual-color design. The study results revealed the following: the useful–decorative scale was the most suitable for the experiments; the rectangular handheld box design was identified as the most suitable shape design in experiment 2; the traditional Chinese pattern was identified as the most suitable pattern design in experiment 3; and the most suitable color combination for the dual-color box packaging was royal blue and cyan. Although the subject matter of this study is color boxes for tea packaging, the study results may serve as a theoretical and practical reference for the color and shape designs for other types of color boxes in the future and provide directions for research.

Abstract:<p>People's expectations concerning the functional properties and efficacy of pharmaceuticals are influenced by a wide variety of product-extrinsic factors, such as the colour (of both product and pack), form (e.g., tablet vs. capsule), and shape (e.g., round, oval, or diamond-shaped) of medicines, and the multisensory design of the product packaging. The sound symbolic properties of a medicine's brand name, as well as its processing fluency, have also been shown to exert a significant influence over people's expectations. However, given that non-adherence has long been a key issues with medical treatment, further research is urgently needed in order to determine the extent (albeit likely limited) to which these various product-extrinsic factors influence non-compliance, while at the same time avoiding the confusion that has been caused by the proliferation of look-alike/sound-alike drugs in the marketplace in recent years. Further research is also needed in order to help establish the cross-cultural consensuality of the meanings that are attached by consumers to these various different product-extrinsic sensory cues (especially colour) in the pharmaceutical category, and to firmly establish the robustness of any colour-based placebo effects. At the same time, however, it is currently unclear which cue (or cues) dominate(s) when multiple product attributes are manipulated simultaneously given that the influence of colour, shape, sound symbolism, etc., have typically only been studied individually to date. The multisensory design of pharmaceuticals and their packaging therefore constitutes a particularly intriguing, not to mention important, applied area for food/sensory scientists, marketing researchers, and cognitive neuroscientists.</p>

Abstract:In the realm of product design, when functional value reaches a certain plateau and stops increasing, there is a shift towards seeking intrinsic value. Users place greater emphasis on the experience of using a product. When designers conceptualize a product, they incorporate emotional and creative elements, paying attention to the emotional needs of the users. Emotional design is a "user-centered" approach, which includes the analysis and practical application of users' emotional factors. Through design, it enhances the spiritual needs that a product can fulfill and values the emotional feedback users receive after using the product.By employing qualitative analysis methods, this study examines the "quality" aspects of educational parent-child interactive products and the attributes of emotional design, comparing the purchasing tendencies of the target audience. Furthermore, we analyze three dimensions of design to provide systematic theoretical support for the design of parent-child interactive products. The results indicate that during the design process of parent-child interactive products, emotional design can enhance the user experience and encourage positive emotional responses from users.An in-depth exploration of emotional design in educational parent-child interactive products reveals its significant influence during the promotion of such products. The design revolves around the emotional needs of users, with the overall design process centered on improving user experience and focusing on the emotional value of the product.

Abstract:Nowadays, digitalisation is present in all links of the product life cycle and within product design. Packaging is a critical element that affects the customer's purchase intention. Therefore, packaging is one of the elements for which it is positive to include techniques and methods based on Industry 4.0 to obtain results from users and bring them closer to the process. The relationship between packaging and the expected quality and emotions of users is a topic that is addressed in the social axis of sustainability and involves an effort to strengthen the relationship with the user. This article studies the expected quality of nougat in terms of packaging shape and colour using ANOVA analysis. For this purpose, a survey was carried out among 122 participants in Spain and Mexico. The main conclusion is that packaging with a combination of three shapes (rectangle, square and triangle) and colours (yellow, orange and red) enhances consumers' emotions of Admiration, Satisfaction, Pleasant Surprise, Attraction, Fascination and Joy.

Abstract:Product aesthetics give people a sense of beauty and impression and encourages them to consume and collect. Companies employ shapes that are both emotionally appealing and compatible with the brand’s image of aesthetics in generating favorable consumer responses. Existing research on branding and product design has demonstrated the importance of emotions. Consumers can base their evaluations of a brand extension on their subjective-affective reactions toward products. Many products are designed to attract consumers, and considerable literature exists on product-design methods. However, few studies have offered specific guidance on how to design products with emotional appeal to link brands and to initiate consumer emotions. Using a recognized brand and products as an example, we argue that emotional product design strengthens brand emotion and is appealing to consumers. We explored brand and product emotion by conducting a consumer-emotion survey and determined that (a) emotional-brand products have emotional product design characteristics, particularly the beauty characteristic;(b) emotional product design characteristics influence the brand emotion (repurchase, willingness to recommend, attachment, positive emotion, and passion) of consumers;(c) emotional-brand products have simple shapes, pure colors, and natural textures that exude a sense of design, fashion, and a pleasing appearance of emotional product design. The findings of this study support the future development and growth of emotional product design.

Abstract:In recent years, cultural creative products as an important branch of cultural creative industries, have been widespread concern and promotion. It is not only a cultural heritage, but also the crystallization of the wisdom of designers, and it is one of the important means of cultural heritage and spread. The creative design is the interpretation of cultural heritage and the refinement of cultural spirit, and it needs to combine the characteristics of the present era and the series of cultural re-design activities carried out by the social aesthetic. The product design needs not only to embody the functionality of the product, but also to the inheritance of cultural spirit, and to pay more attention to people’s sense of identity and belonging to the culture. Based on the three-level theory of emotional design proposed by Professor Donald Arthur Norman, this paper analyzes its specific application in the design of cultural and creative products, in order to establish the emotional design criteria of cultural and creative products centered on user experience. It aims to help consumers establish a sense of design identity and cultural identity for cultural and creative products, and put cultural confidence into practice.
