Abstract:In recent years,with the growth and rapid development of international market demand,Xingjian has become the world's second largest tomato products exporting area.But at the same time,Xinjiang tomato industry has exposed a series of shortcomings,namely,the laggard development model,more and more serious diseases and insect pests,weak competitiveness,lack of independent industry brand and so on,which showed that tomato products industry in Xinjiang was still a low value-added industry.In this article,some suggestions were proposed for the industry in Xinjiang based on analysis of its current situation.

Disposal and Utilization Measures of the Wastewater Produced in the Tomato Paste Production in Xinjiang

Abstract:Relying on the dominant location and industrial policies,considerable rapid development in industry of the tomato paste production has been making in Xinjiang recently,Xinjiang has become the main tomato paste production in China, sharing about 90 percent of the national total production and sales.At the same time, however, the wastewater produced in the tomato paste production has also been increasing significantly.Large amount untreated effluent discharged into local waters directly resulted in serious environmental issue. Located inland,Xinjiang is a region suffering much from shortage of water resources. In this case,how to make fully and effectively use of the wastewater is of urgent for mitigation of the tension condition of water resources and promotion sustainable development of regional economy and environment. This paper analyzed the characteristics of the wastewater produced in the tomato paste production and the present situation of the wastewater discharged in Xinjiang. In consideration of the national conditions and the distribution of enterprises of the tomato paste production, a utilization method of the wastewater produced in the tomato production, i.e. a method using land treatment was introduced in this paper, in order to be advantageous to the environmental protection and re-utilization of wastewater.

Environmental Impact Assessment Review

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to conduct a life cycle assessment (LCA) of the environmental impact of highly concentrated tomato paste produced by cold break and hot break methods. We considered the environmental impact and environmental hot spots related to tomato cultivation, tomato paste processing, packaging, and transportation, and then identified potential improvements for each stage. The research site was in Xinjiang, China, which is the main production area of high-concentration tomato paste for export in China. Taking 240 kg tomato paste packed in 220-L steel drums as the functional unit, the main data were obtained from studies on production enterprises and agricultural statistics. Ten environmental impacts were calculated using eFootprint: primary energy demand (PED), resource depletion-water (WU), climate change (GWP), ozone depletion (ODP), acidification (AP), particulate matter (RI), photochemical ozone formation (POFP), eutrophication (EP), ecotoxicity-freshwater (ET), and human toxicity-cancer effects (HT-cancer); their respective values for cold break paste were 5947 MJ, 82400 kg, 490 kg CO2 eq, 4.07E-06 kg CFC-11 eq, 5.150 kg SO2 eq, 1.600 kg PM2.5 eq, 0.270 kg NMVOC eq, 1.000 kg PO43− eq, 4.230 CTUe, and 3.70E-07 CTUh. The results showed that the environmental impact of cold break paste was lower than that of hot break paste because of lower steam consumption. The cultivation phase was the main contributor to WU, AP, EP, ET, and HT-cancer. In the processing phase, mashed tomatoes are concentrated using a large amount of steam to obtain a concentrated paste product. The energy consumption in the processing phase contributed >50% of PED, GWP, and RI. Although the packaging and transportation phases had smaller environmental impacts, the use of steel drums for packaging cannot be ignored. We conducted sensitivity analyses to evaluate the overall benefits that could be achieved by different mitigation schemes. In the whole supply chain, improving irrigation and fertilization methods and replacing the primary energy for steam production are the best strategies to improve environmental sustainability.

Abstract:Ketchup is the most important agricultural product exported by Xinjiang in China, and the main market is in Kazakhstan. Exploring the export potential of Xinjiang Xinjiang to Kazakhstan ketchup will help enterprises to formulate scientific and rational export strategies and effectively promote the healthy development of agricultural trade for the government. for reference. Based on the export data of Xinjiang tomato to Kazakhstan in 2009-2017, this paper uses three exponential smoothing methods to predict the export potential of Xinjiang Xinjiang to tomato ketchup, and analyzes the development of China's Xinjiang and Kazakhstan ketchup trade. The results showed that: (1) The export quantity of tomato ketchup in Xinjiang showed an overall upward trend, but the export value was declining; the structure of export ketchup had changed, but the export of canned tomato ketchup still accounted for a large proportion. (2) China's Xinjiang ketchup has problems in production of Kazakhstan, such as insufficient production standards, low added value of products, lack of well-known brand names, low grades of export products, and green trade barriers. (3) Proposing suggestions for increasing scientific research and technological innovation, extending the industrial chain, and adjusting the industrial structure.
Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Export Tomato Paste of Koria Region in Xinjiang

Abstract:Cu,Pb,Cd,Fe Zn,As and Hg in export tomato paste of Koria region in Xinjiang were analyzed by flame and graphite furnace atomic absorption,as well hydride generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry method with microwave digestion.The contents of elements were under allowable value,and whose quality could be satisfactory to importers standards of EU,Japan,USA.The results showed the heavy metals had low risk,and the tomato paste belonged to a lower risk project.

Abstract:A field experiment was carried out to study the effects of CO2 enrichment by fermentation of organic wastes(swine feces and rice straw) on the growth,yield and quality of tomato(Lycopersicon esculentum Mill cv.Jinpeng) in the greenhouses.The results show that CO2 enrichment could promote significantly tomato growth and increase fruit number and single fruit mass,resulting in 15 days predated for harvest,and the increases of total yield,post-harvested yield,total income and net income by 43.8%,220%,68.8% and 66.1%,respectively.Furthermore,the quality of tomato fruit was obviously improved by CO2 enrichment,of which the color of appearance,plumpness and taste of the fruit were much better than that of the control.Besides,the contents of soluble sugar,vitamin C,soluble solid and sugar/acid ratio were significantly increased,while nitrate content was decreased.In conclusion,CO2 enrichment via the fermentation of agricultural organic wastes in greenhouses provides a new strategy for safe agricultural production,which not only solves CO2 deficiency in the greenhouse and thereby bring high economic benefits to farmers,but also minimizes the organic wastes pollution to the environment.

Abstract:The control of the temperature and the heating time of the reaction liquid are the keys in the processing of preserved Chinese gooseberry. It has expounded the basic thought of fuzzy controlling by study of the methods on the temperature control of the heating tanks. It has given a more detailed introduction, focusing on the design methods of fuzzy controllers on temperature control, putting forward the improved method on the open question, proposing design ideas on the parameters self-adjusting fuzzy control, which have improved the quality of the preserved fruit and lowed the sugar content in the practical application. This method has successfully been applied to the processing and production of the preserved fruit, attained the predicated control effect, achieved good economic benefits in some subordinate enterprise of Shaanxi kiwi fruit industry development service center.

The 6-parameter evaluation system including transform degree,webbing degree,branching degree,sequential degree,cleaning degree,and intelligence degree is specifically proposed,and it is discussed and analyzed through different industry examples. The coking process engineering provides practical and feasible method reference for sustainable development of traditional coking chemical.

Abstract:Aerated irrigation (AI) has emerged as a method to mitigate rhizosphere hypoxia caused by wetting front with sub-surface drip irrigation (SDI). Increasing oxygen in processing tomato’s root zone is beneficial to the improvement of the rhizosphere gas environment, crop growth, yield and quality. The relationship between aerated irrigation and irrigation quantity is not clear. A total of eight treatments, including four irrigation levels (4950 m3 hm−2 (W1), 4750 m3 hm−2 (W2), 4500 m3 hm−2 (W3), 4050 m3 hm−2 (W4)) in combination with aerated irrigation (A2) and non-aerated irrigation (A1) were used to investigate the effects of aerated irrigation on the physiological characteristics and yield of processing tomatoes under mulched drip irrigation in Xinjiang, China. The effects of aerated irrigation on plant height, stem diameter, leaf area index and dry matter, photosynthesis, fluorescence, fruit quality and yield of processing tomatoes were studied. The results showed that plant height, stem diameter, biomass accumulation and leaf area index of processing tomatoes under aerated irrigation were increased by 10.2%, 7.3%, 12.5% and 6.2% under the W1, W2, W3 and W4 conditions (p < 0.05), respectively, compared with non-aerated irrigation. Yield and the content of Vitamin C and soluble solids under aerated irrigation was 9.71%, 5.59% and 5.68% (p < 0.05) higher than that under conventional irrigation, respectively, and the sugar-acid under aerated irrigation decreased by 0.5%. Through principal component analysis, W2A2 treatment had a higher score according to the yield index (per fruit weight, fruit number per plant) and quality index (Vitamin C, soluble solids, sugar-acid ratio) than the other treatments. The results show that aerated irrigation is feasible under the existing mulched drip irrigation in Xinjiang and, in this experiment, W2A2 treatment was the most suitable planting mode.

Abstract:Pasteurization is a vital process to destroy harmful enzymes. This process is very critical to obtain quality tomato paste. In this study, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been used to design a shell and tube heat exchanger on an industrial scale and to simulate heat transfer in order to visualize this process and present it to the industry. In this research, a three-dimensional CFD model was simulated using ANSYS FLUENT commercial software. Also, using the Herschel-Bulkley model, the behavior of viscosity in the pasteurization process of tomato paste has been explained. In this stage of the production line, the tomato paste enters a shell and tube heat exchanger at 65 °C and reaches 80 °C at the outlet. Compared with the experimental data, the output temperature of tomato paste predicted by CFD simulation reached 79 °C. In addition, thermophysical properties of tomato paste were measured, and these exact values were used for simulation. Also, the evaluation of this heat exchanger with three hot water inlet mass flow rates has been done in order to provide the results to the factory to avoid spending more energy. And the simulation results showed that the output temperature of tomato paste at three different mass flow rates did not change less than the mass flow rates measured in the factory, and also the output visualizations from this research can be suitable for presenting to the industry and benefiting from them.

Abstract:Litchi and longan are important commercial fruits of southern China. Fresh litchi and longan have a very short shelf life and market price at peak harvesting season decreases markedly due to excessive supply. Processing of litchi and longan recently gained increasing importance in China. According to the principles of food preservation, the processing technology of litchi and longan is divided into different methods, i.e., drying, canning, juice, fermentation, and frozen. The current status of some selected processed products such as dried litchi and longan, canned litchi, litchi juice, litchi wine and frozen litchi and their practical methods of processing are discussed in this paper.

Abstract:Foodborne pathogen is the top one cause for foodborne diseases,which is a key obstacle in the development of food safety control system in China.During food processing,foodborne pathogenic bacteria can survive in many stress conditions,such as heat,high pressure,frozen,desiccation,vacuum,oxidation and so on,for that they can become more resistant to these stresses through biofilm formation,recovery of sublethal injured cells and the regulatory of stress-related genes.Moreover,the secretion of some virulent factors such as thermanuclease and enterotoxin also threatens the safety of food processing.These key scientific issues on the control of foodborne pathogens related to food processing were reviewed in this article.
13 Cycles of Consecutive Tomato Monoculture Cropping Alter Soil Chemical Properties and Soil Fungal Community in Solar Greenhouse

Abstract:Consecutive tomato monoculture cropping (CTM) obstacles severely restrict the development of facility tomato industry in China. However, the effect of CTM on the soil fungal community in greenhouses is still unclear. Here, we aim to identify the variation of soil chemical properties and soil fungal community associated with CTM for 1, 3, 5, 9 and 13 cycles. The results indicated that CTM led to a significant increase in soil total phosphorus (TP) and soil electrical conductivity (EC) value. CTM, though, significantly increased soil fungal community diversity, yet also led to the imbalance of soil fungal community compositions. Specifically, a beneficial soil fungus, Chaetomiaceae, decreased significantly at CTM13, while several soil pathogenic fungi, including Fusarium and Cladosporium, increased significantly at CTM13. A redundancy analysis (RDA) indicated that soil EC value, pH and TP had a greater impact on soil fungal community structure. Structural-equation-model (SEM) analysis indicated that, when compared with CTM3–CTM9, the decline of tomato fruit fresh weight per plant (TFFW) at CTM13 might be related to the significant increase in soil EC value, soil Fusarium and Cladosporium. Thus, appropriately decreasing soil EC and soil pathogenic fungi and enhancing soil beneficial fungi under a CTM system is crucially important for sustainable tomato production in greenhouses.
