Abstract:This volume contains the papers presented at the first international workshop on Logics for Component Configuration (LoCoCo 2010) which was associated with the International Conference on Theory and Applications of Satisfiability Testing (SAT 2010) as part of the Federated Logic Conference (FLoC 2010), and which took place on July 10, 2010 in Edinburgh, UK. Modern software distributions are based on the notion of components, which denote units of independent development and deployment. Components provide the necessary flexibility when organizing a complex software distribution, but also are a challenge when it comes to selecting components from a large repository of possible choices, and configuring these components according to user needs, resource constraints, and interdependencies with other components. Representing and solving configuration problems is a hot topic of great importance for many application domains. Some well-known examples of complex systems of components are Free and Open Source software distributions like GNU/Linux, or Eclipse plugins. The LoCoCo workshop has a focus on logic-based methods for specifying and solving complex configuration problems for software components. The goal was to bring together both researchers and practitioners active in the area of component configuration of software systems, using different modeling and solving techniques, such as constraint and logic programing, description logics, satisfiability and its extensions.

Abstract:Type theories, logical frameworks and meta-languages form a common foundation for designing, implementing, and reasoning about formal languages and their semantics. They are central to the design of modern programming languages, certified software, and domain specific logics. More generally, they continue to influence applications in many areas in mathematics, logic and computer science. The Logical Frameworks and Meta-languages: Theory and Practice workshop aims to bring together designers, implementers, and practitioners working on these areas, and in particular about: the automation and implementation of the meta-theory of programming languages and related calculi; the design of proof assistants, automated theorem provers, and formal digital libraries building upon logical framework technology; theoretical and practical issues concerning the encoding of variable binding and fresh name generation, especially the representation of, and reasoning about, datatypes defined from binding signatures; case studies of meta-programming, and the mechanization of the (meta) theory of descriptions of programming languages and other calculi. This volume contains the final and revised versions of the papers presented at LFMTP 2010, which was held on July 14, 2010 in Edinburgh (UK). LFMTP 2010 was part of the Federated Logic Conference (FLoC 2010), and affilated with LICS 2010.

Abstract:Logical frameworks and meta-languages form a common substrate for representing, implementing and reasoning about a wide variety of deductive systems of interest in logic and computer science. Their design, implementation and their use in reasoning tasks, ranging from the correctness of software to the properties of formal systems, have been the focus of considerable research over the last two decades. This workshop brings together designers, implementors and practitioners to discuss various aspects impinging on the structure and utility of logical frameworks, including the treatment of variable binding, inductive and co-inductive reasoning techniques and the expressiveness and lucidity of the reasoning process.

Abstract:This special issue cover the seventh and last conference of the CL&C series, started in 2006 in San Servolo. Topics are the computational content of logics between intuitionistic logic and classical logic, through normalization, and a new topic, cyclic proofs and the complexity of checking the correctness of a cyclic proof. Accepted papers include an empirical comparison of time consumption of different normalization algorithms, and new reductions sets for several extensions of intuitionistic logic having the Herbrand disjunction property. Another paper provides a reduction set for admissible rules for intuitionistic logic. A paper describes a subset of cyclic proofs having a polynomial-time algorithm checking correctness.

Abstract:Modern hardware platforms, from the very small to the very large, increasingly provide parallel and distributed computing resources for applications to maximise performance. Many applications therefore need to make effective use of tens, hundreds, and even thousands of compute nodes. Computation in such systems is thus inherently concurrent and communication centric. Effectively programming such applications is challenging; performance, correctness, and scalability are difficult to achieve. The development of effective programming methodologies for this increasingly parallel landscape therefore demands exploration and understanding of a wide variety of foundational and practical ideas. The International Workshop on Programming Language Approaches to Concurrency- and Communication-cEntric Software (PLACES) is dedicated to work in this area. The workshop offers a forum for researchers from different fields to exchange new ideas about these challenges to modern and future programming, where concurrency and distribution are the norm rather than a marginal concern. This volume contains the proceedings of the 12th edition of PLACES, which was co-located with ETAPS 2020 in Dublin, Ireland.

PLACES 2015 was held on 18th April in London, UK. The workshop series was started in order to promote the application of novel programming language ideas to the increasingly important problem of developing software for systems in which concurrency and communication are intrinsic aspects. This includes software for both multi-core systems and large-scale distributed and/or service-oriented systems. The scope of PLACES includes new programming language features, whole new programming language designs, new type systems, new semantic approaches, new program analysis techniques, and new implementation mechanisms. This volume consists of revised versions of the papers that were presented at the workshop.

Abstract:Classical Logic and Computation (CL&C) 2014 is the fifth edition of this workshop series. The workshop series intends to cover all work aiming to explore computational aspects of classical logic and mathematics. Its focus is on the exploration of the computational content of mathematical and logical principles, aiming to bring together researchers from both fields and exchange ideas. In this fifth edition we received 18 submissions of both short and full papers. Fourteen (14) of these were selected to present at the meeting in Vienna, and six (6) full papers were accepted to appear at this ETPCS special volume. Topics covered by this years submissions included: translations of classical to intuitionistic proofs, witness extraction from classical proofs, confluence properties for classical systems, linear logic, constructive semantics for classical logic (game semantics, realizability), and the study of calculi based on classical logic (lambda-mu-calculus, continuation calculus).

Abstract:ECLiPSe is a Prolog-based programming system, aimed at the development and deployment of constraint programming applications. It is also used for teaching most aspects of combinatorial problem solving, e.g. problem modelling, constraint programming, mathematical programming, and search techniques. It uses an extended Prolog as its high-level modelling and control language, complemented by several constraint solver libraries, interfaces to third-party solvers, an integrated development environment and interfaces for embedding into host environments. This paper discusses language extensions, implementation aspects, components and tools that we consider relevant on the way from Logic Programming to Constraint Logic Programming.
