Abstract:Tongue cancer is a common oral cavity malignancy that originates in the mouth and throat. Much effort has been invested in improving its diagnosis, treatment, and management. Surgical removal, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy remain the major treatment for tongue cancer. The treatment effect is determined by patients’ survival status. Previous studies have identified certain survival and risk factors based on descriptive statistics, ignoring the complex, nonlinear relationship among clinical and demographic variables. In this study, we utilize five cutting-edge machine learning models and clinical data to predict the survival of tongue cancer patients after treatment. Five-fold cross-validation, bootstrap analysis, and permutation feature importance are applied to estimate and interpret model performance. The prognostic factors identified by our method are consistent with previous clinical studies. Our method is accurate, interpretable, and thus useable as additional evidence in tongue cancer treatment and management.

Abstract:Despite diagnostic advancements, the development of reliable prognostic systems for assessing the risk of cancer recurrence still remains a challenge. In this study, we developed a novel framework to generate highly representative machine-learning prediction models for oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC) cancer recurrence. We identified cases of 5- and 10-year OTSCC recurrence from the SEER database. Four classification models were trained using the H2O ai platform, whose performances were assessed according to their accuracy, recall, precision, and the area under the curve (AUC) of their receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. By evaluating Shapley additive explanation contribution plots, feature importance was studied. Of the 130,979 patients studied, 36,042 (27.5%) were female, and the mean (SD) age was 58.2 (13.7) years. The Gradient Boosting Machine model performed the best, achieving 81.8% accuracy and 97.7% precision for 5-year prediction. Moreover, 10-year predictions demonstrated 80.0% accuracy and 94.0% precision. The number of prior tumors, patient age, the site of cancer recurrence, and tumor histology were the most significant predictors. The implementation of our novel SEER framework enabled the successful identification of patients with OTSCC recurrence, with which highly accurate and sensitive prediction models were generated. Thus, we demonstrate our framework's potential for application in various cancers to build generalizable screening tools to predict tumor recurrence.

Abstract:Objectives Development of a prediction model using machine learning (ML) method for tumor progression in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients would provide risk estimation for individual patient outcomes. Patients and Methods This predictive modeling study was conducted of 1163 patients with OSCC from Hospital of Stomatology, SYSU and SYSU Cancer Center from March 2009 to October 2021. Clinical, pathological, and hematological features of the patients were collected. Six ML algorithms were explored, and model performance was assessed by accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, f1 score, and AUC. SHAP values were used to identify the variables with the greatest contribution to the model. Results Among the 1163 patients (mean [SD] age, 55.36 [12.91] years), 563 are from development cohort and 600 are from validation cohort. The Logistic Regression algorithm outperformed all other models, with a sensitivity of 94.7% (68.2%), a specificity of 55.3% (63.7%), and the AUC of 0.76 ± 0.09 (0.723) in the development (validation) cohort. The most predictive feature was neutrophil count. Conclusion This study demonstrated ML models can improve clinical prediction of oral squamous cell carcinoma progression through basic information of patients. These tools could be used to provide individual risk estimation and may help direct intervention.

Abstract:Technology in Cancer Research &Treatment, Volume 22, Issue , January-December 2023. Objective: Tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) is one of the most common and poor prognosis head and neck tumors. The purpose of this study is to establish a model for predicting TSCC prognosis based on clinical and MR radiomics data and to develop a nomogram. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical and imaging data of 211 patients with pathologically confirmed TSCC who underwent radical surgery at xx hospital from February 2011 to January 2020. Patients were divided into a study group (recurrence, metastasis, and death, n = 76) and a control group (normal survival, n = 135) according to 1 to 6 years of follow-up. A training set and a test set were established based on a ratio of 7:3 and a time point. In the training set, 3 prediction models (clinical data model, imaging model, and combined model) were established based on the MR radiomics score (Radscore) combined with clinical features. The predictive performance of these models was compared using the Delong curve, and the clinical net benefit of the model was tested using the decision curve. Then, the external validation of the model was performed in the test set, and a nomogram for predicting TSCC prognosis was developed. Results: Univariate analysis confirmed that betel nut consumption, spicy hot pot or pickled food, unclean oral sex, drug use, platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), depth of invasion (DOI), low differentiation, clinical stage, and Radscore were factors that affected TSCC prognosis (P < .05). In the test set, the combined model based on these factors had the highest predictive performance for TSCC prognosis (area under curve (AUC) AUC: 0.870, 95% CI [0.761-0.942]), which was significantly higher than the clinical model (AUC: 0.730, 95% CI [0.602-0.835], P = .033) and imaging model (AUC: 0.765, 95% CI [0.640-0.863], P = .074). The decision curve also confirmed the higher clinical net benefit of the combined model, and these results were validated in the test set. The nomogram developed based on the combined model received good evaluation in clinical application. Conclusion: MR-LASSO extracted texture parameters can help improve the performance of TSCC prognosis models. The combined model and nomogram provide support for postoperative clinical treatment management of TSCC.

Prediction of five-year survival among esophageal cancer patients using machine learning

Abstract:Background and aim: Considering the silent progression of esophageal cancer, the survival prediction of this disease is crucial in enhancing the quality of life of these patients globally. So far, no prediction solution has been introduced for the survival of EC in Iran based on the machine learning approach. So, this study aims to develop a prediction model for the five-year survival of EC based on the ML approach to promote clinical outcomes and various treatment and preventive plans. Material and methods: In this retrospective study, we investigated the 1656 cases of survived and non-survived EC patients belonging to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Sari City from 2013 to 2020. The multivariable regression analysis was used to select the best predictors of five-year survival. We leveraged random forest, eXtreme Gradient Boosting, support vector machine, artificial neural networks, Bayesian networks, J-48 decision tree, and K-nearest neighborhood to develop the prediction models. To get the best model for predicting the five-year survival of EC, we compared them using the area under the receiver operator characteristics. Results: The age at diagnosis, body mass index, smoking, obstruction, dysphagia, weight loss, lymphadenopathy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, family history of EC, tumor stage, type of appearance, histological type, grade of differentiation, tumor location, tumor size, lymphatic invasion, vascular invasion, and platelet albumin ratio were considered as the best predictors associated with the five-year survival of EC based on the regression analysis. In this respect, the random forest with the area under the receiver operator characteristics of 0.95 was identified as a superior model. Conclusion: The experimental results of the current study showed that the random forest could have a significant role in enhancing the quality of care in EC patients by increasing the effectiveness of follow-up and treatment measures introduced by care providers.
A CT-based integrated model for preoperative prediction of occult lymph node metastasis in early tongue cancer

Abstract:Background: Occult lymph node metastasis (OLNM) is an essential prognostic factor for early-stage tongue cancer (cT1-2N0M0) and a determinant of treatment decisions. Therefore, accurate prediction of OLNM can significantly impact the clinical management and outcomes of patients with tongue cancer. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a multiomics-based model to predict OLNM in patients with early-stage tongue cancer. Methods: The data of 125 patients diagnosed with early-stage tongue cancer (cT1-2N0M0) who underwent primary surgical treatment and elective neck dissection were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 100 patients were randomly assigned to the training set and 25 to the test set. The preoperative contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and clinical data on these patients were collected. Radiomics features were extracted from the primary tumor as the region of interest (ROI) on CT images, and correlation analysis and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method were used to identify the most relevant features. A support vector machine (SVM) classifier was constructed and compared with other machine learning algorithms. With the same method, a clinical model was built and the peri-tumoral and intra-tumoral images were selected as the input for the deep learning model. The stacking ensemble technique was used to combine the multiple models. The predictive performance of the integrated model was evaluated for accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC), and compared with expert assessment. Internal validation was performed using a stratified five-fold cross-validation approach. Results: Of the 125 patients, 41 (32.8%) showed OLNM on postoperative pathological examination. The integrated model achieved higher predictive performance compared with the individual models, with an accuracy of 84%, a sensitivity of 100%, a specificity of 76.5%, and an AUC-ROC of 0.949 (95% CI [0.870-1.000]). In addition, the performance of the integrated model surpassed that of younger doctors and was comparable to the evaluation of experienced doctors. Conclusions: The multiomics-based model can accurately predict OLNM in patients with early-stage tongue cancer, and may serve as a valuable decision-making tool to determine the appropriate treatment and avoid unnecessary neck surgery in patients without OLNM.
Morphology-based Machine-Learning for Predicting Lymph Node Status in Oral Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Abstract:Abstract Purpose To develop machine-learning models based on morphological features extracted from preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to predict lymph node status in oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC). Method This study retrospectively enrolled 90 OTSCC patients, of whom 45 and 13 patients, respectively, had confirmed lymph node metastasis (LNM) and extranodal extension (ENE). Fourteen morphological features and two customized metrics were derived from T2-weighted (T2W) images. Tumor maximum diameter and MRI-derived depth of invasion (DOI) were measured on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted (ceT1W) images. Information gain algorithm was applied to select the top five attributes. Models were created using six machine-learning methods, including neural network (NN), random forest (RF), logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), naïve bayes (NB), and AdaBoost. An internal stratified 10-fold cross-validation was performed to assess their performance. Results For predicting LNM, the NN classifier, which included Situation, Elongation, Top Bottom Area, Least Axis Length, and Minor Axis Length, yielded the best model, with an AUC of 0.746 and accuracy of 72.2%. The performance of the NN model was slightly superior to that of MRI-derived DOI (0.746 vs. 0.655), although the difference was not significant (P = 0.122). For predicting ENE, the SVM classifier, which included situation, Elongation, Top Bottom Area, Least Axis Length, and Minor Axis Length, performed the best, with an AUC of 0.750 and accuracy of 85.6%. Conclusions Machine-learning models using MRI morphological features have potential in preoperative evaluation of cervical lymph node status in OTSCC.

Abstract:Introduction Many researchers used machine learning (ML) to predict the prognosis of breast cancer (BC) patients and noticed that the ML model had good individualized prediction performance. Objective The cohort study was intended to establish a reliable data analysis model by comparing the performance of 10 common ML algorithms and the the traditional American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage, and used this model in Web application development to provide a good individualized prediction for others. Methods This study included 63145 BC patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Results Through the performance of the 10 ML algorithms and 7th AJCC stage in the optimal test set, we found that in terms of 5-year overall survival, multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) had the highest area under the curve (AUC) value (0.831) and F1-score (0.608), and both sensitivity (0.737) and specificity (0.772) were relatively high. Besides, MARS showed a highest AUC value (0.831, 95%confidence interval: 0.820–0.842) in comparison to the other ML algorithms and 7th AJCC stage (all P < 0.05). MARS, the best performing model, was selected for web application development (https://w12251393.shinyapps.io/app2/). Conclusions The comparative study of multiple forecasting models utilizing a large data noted that MARS based model achieved a much better performance compared to other ML algorithms and 7th AJCC stage in individualized estimation of survival of BC patients, which was very likely to be the next step towards precision medicine.

Abstract:Abstract Background Accurately forecasting the prognosis could improve cervical cancer management, however, the currently used clinical features are difficult to provide enough information. The aim of this study is to improve forecasting capability by developing a miRNAs-based machine learning survival prediction model. Results The expression characteristics of miRNAs were chosen as features for model development. The cervical cancer miRNA expression data was obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. Preprocessing, including unquantified data removal, missing value imputation, samples normalization, log transformation, and feature scaling, was performed. In total, 42 survival-related miRNAs were identified by Cox Proportional-Hazards analysis. The patients were optimally clustered into four groups with three different 5-years survival outcome (≥ 90%, ≈ 65%, ≤ 40%) by K-means clustering algorithm base on top 10 survival-related miRNAs. According to the K-means clustering result, a prediction model with high performance was established. The pathways analysis indicated that the miRNAs used play roles involved in the regulation of cancer stem cells. Conclusion A miRNAs-based machine learning cervical cancer survival prediction model was developed that robustly stratifies cervical cancer patients into high survival rate (5-years survival rate ≥ 90%), moderate survival rate (5-years survival rate ≈ 65%), and low survival rate (5-years survival rate ≤ 40%).

Abstract:The current prognostic tools for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) lack the necessary accuracy to facilitate individualized patient management strategies. To address this issue, this study was conducted to develop a machine learning (ML) prediction model for ESCC patients' survival management. Six ML approaches, including Rpart, Elastic Net, GBM, Random Forest, GLMboost, and the machine learning-extended CoxPH method, were employed to develop risk prediction models. The model was trained on a dataset of 1954 ESCC patients with 27 clinical features and validated on a dataset of 487 ESCC patients. The discriminative performance of the models was assessed using the concordance index (C-index). The best performing model was used for risk stratification and clinical evaluation. The study found that N stage, T stage, surgical margin, tumor grade, tumor length, sex, MPV, AST, FIB, and Mg are the important feature for ESCC patients' survival. The machine learning-extended CoxPH model, Elastic Net, and Random Forest had similar performance in predicting the mortality risk of ESCC patients, and outperformed GBM, GLMboost, and Rpart. The risk scores derived from the CoxPH model effectively stratified ESCC patients into low-, intermediate-, and high-risk groups with distinctly different 3-year overall survival (OS) probabilities of 80.8%, 58.2%, and 29.5%, respectively. This risk stratification was also observed in the validation cohort. Furthermore, the risk model demonstrated greater discriminative ability and net benefit than the AJCC8th stage, suggesting its potential as a prognostic tool for predicting survival events and guiding clinical decision-making. The classical algorithm of the CoxPH method was also found to be sufficiently good for interpretive studies.

Advanced-stage tongue squamous cell carcinoma: a machine learning model for risk stratification and treatment planning

Abstract:A significant number of tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) patients are diagnosed at late stage. We primarily aimed to develop a machine learning (ML) model based on ensemble ML paradigm to stratify advanced-stage TSCC patients into the likelihood of overall survival (OS) for evidence-based treatment. We compared the survival outcome of patients who received either surgical treatment only (Sx) or surgery combined with postoperative radiotherapy (Sx + RT) or postoperative chemoradiotherapy (Sx + CRT). A total of 428 patients from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database were reviewed. Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazards models examine OS. In addition, a ML model was developed for OS likelihood stratification. Age, marital status, N stage, Sx, and Sx + CRT were considered significant. Patients with Sx + RT showed better OS than Sx + CRT or Sx alone. A similar result was obtained for T3N0 subgroup. For T3N1 subgroup, Sx + CRT appeared more favorable for 5-year OS. In T3N2 and T3N3 subgroups, the numbers of patients were small to make insightful conclusions. The OS predictive ML model showed an accuracy of 86.3% for OS likelihood prediction. Patients stratified as having high likelihood of OS may be managed with Sx + RT. Further external validation studies are needed to confirm these results.

A lung cancer risk warning model based on tongue images

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the tongue image features of patients with lung cancer and benign pulmonary nodules and to construct a lung cancer risk warning model using machine learning methods. Methods: From July 2020 to March 2022, we collected 862 participants including 263 patients with lung cancer, 292 patients with benign pulmonary nodules, and 307 healthy subjects. The TFDA-1 digital tongue diagnosis instrument was used to capture tongue images, using feature extraction technology to obtain the index of the tongue images. The statistical characteristics and correlations of the tongue index were analyzed, and six machine learning algorithms were used to build prediction models of lung cancer based on different data sets. Results: Patients with benign pulmonary nodules had different statistical characteristics and correlations of tongue image data than patients with lung cancer. Among the models based on tongue image data, the random forest prediction model performed the best, with a model accuracy of 0.679 ± 0.048 and an AUC of 0.752 ± 0.051. The accuracy for the logistic regression, decision tree, SVM, random forest, neural network, and naïve bayes models based on both the baseline and tongue image data were 0.760 ± 0.021, 0.764 ± 0.043, 0.774 ± 0.029, 0.770 ± 0.050, 0.762 ± 0.059, and 0.709 ± 0.052, respectively, while the corresponding AUCs were 0.808 ± 0.031, 0.764 ± 0.033, 0.755 ± 0.027, 0.804 ± 0.029, 0.777 ± 0.044, and 0.795 ± 0.039, respectively. Conclusion: The tongue diagnosis data under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine diagnostic theory was useful. The performance of models built on tongue image and baseline data was superior to that of the models built using only the tongue image data or the baseline data. Adding objective tongue image data to baseline data can significantly improve the efficacy of lung cancer prediction models.

Machine Learning Prediction of Tongue Pressure in Elderly Patients with Head and Neck Tumor: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Background: This investigation sought to cross validate the predictors of tongue pressure recovery in elderly patients' post-treatment for head and neck tumors, leveraging advanced machine learning techniques. Methods: By employing logistic regression, support vector regression, random forest, and extreme gradient boosting, the study analyzed an array of variables including patient demographics, surgery types, dental health status, and age, drawn from comprehensive medical records and direct tongue pressure assessments. Results: Among the models, logistic regression emerged as the most effective, demonstrating an accuracy of 0.630 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.370-0.778], F1 score of 0.688 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.435-0.853], precision of 0.611 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.313-0.801], recall of 0.786 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.413-0.938] and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.626 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.409-0.806]. This model distinctly highlighted the significance of glossectomy (p = 0.039), the presence of functional teeth (p = 0.043), and the patient's age (p = 0.044) as pivotal factors influencing tongue pressure, setting the threshold for statistical significance at p < 0.05. Conclusions: The analysis underscored the critical role of glossectomy, the presence of functional natural teeth, and age as determinants of tongue pressure in logistics regression, with the presence of natural teeth and the tumor site located in the tongue consistently emerging as the key predictors across all computational models employed in this study.

Abstract:Background: Tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) is the most common subtype of oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC), and it also has the worst prognosis. It is crucial to find an effective way to solve the challenges in diagnosis and prognosis prediction for TSCC. Machine learning (ML) has been widely used in medical research and has shown good performance. It can be used for feature extraction, feature selection, model construction, etc. Radiomics and deep learning (DL), the new components of ML, have also been utilized to explore the relationship between image features and diseases. The current study aimed to highlight the importance of ML as a potential method for addressing the challenges in diagnosis and prognosis prediction of TSCC by reviewing studies on ML in TSCC.Methods: The studies on ML in TSCC in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure published between the dates of inception of these databases and April 30, 2022, were reviewed.Key Content and Findings: ML (including radiomics and DL) which was used in diagnosis and prognosis prediction for TSCC, has shown promising performance.Conclusions: Despite its limitations, ML is still a potential approach that can help to deal with the challenges in diagnosis and prognosis prediction for TSCC. Nevertheless, more efforts are needed to enhance the usefulness of ML in this field.

Construction of Tongue Image-Based Machine Learning Model for Screening Patients with Gastric Precancerous Lesions.

Abstract:Screening patients with precancerous lesions of gastric cancer (PLGC) is important for gastric cancer prevention. The accuracy and convenience of PLGC screening could be improved with the use of machine learning methodologies to uncover and integrate valuable characteristics of noninvasive medical images related to PLGC. In this study, we therefore focused on tongue images and for the first time constructed a tongue image-based PLGC screening deep learning model (AITongue). The AITongue model uncovered potential associations between tongue image characteristics and PLGC, and integrated canonical risk factors, including age, sex, and Hp infection. Five-fold cross validation analysis on an independent cohort of 1995 patients revealed the AITongue model could screen PLGC individuals with an AUC of 0.75, 10.3% higher than that of the model with only including canonical risk factors. Of note, we investigated the value of the AITongue model in predicting PLGC risk by establishing a prospective PLGC follow-up cohort, reaching an AUC of 0.71. In addition, we developed a smartphone-based app screening system to enhance the application convenience of the AITongue model in the natural population from high-risk areas of gastric cancer in China. Collectively, our study has demonstrated the value of tongue image characteristics in PLGC screening and risk prediction.

Abstract:<section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Background</h3><p>Predicting survival in myxoid liposarcoma (MLS) patients is very challenging given its propensity to metastasize and the controversial role of adjuvant therapy. The purpose of this study was to develop a machine‐learning algorithm for the prediction of survival at five years for patients with MLS and externally validate it using our institutional cohort.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Methods</h3><p>Two databases, the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results program (SEER) database and an institutional database, were used in this study. Five machine learning models were created based on the SEER database and performance was rated using the TRIPOD criteria. The model that performed best on the SEER data was again tested on our institutional database.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Results</h3><p>The net‐elastic penalized logistic regression model was the best according to our performance indicators. This model had an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.85 when compared to the SEER testing data and an AUC of 0.76 when tested against institutional database. Abstract:The aim of this study was to construct nomograms to predict long-term overall survival (OS) and tongue cancer-specific survival (TCSS) of tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) patients based on clinical and tumor characteristics. Clinical, tumor, and treatment characteristics of 12,674 patients diagnosed with TSCC between 2004 and 2013 were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. These patients were then divided into surgery and nonsurgery cohorts, and nomograms were developed for each of these groups. The step-down method and cumulative incidence function were used for model selection to determine the significant prognostic factors associated with OS and TCSS. These prognostic variables were incorporated into nomograms. An external cohort was used to validate the surgery nomograms. Seven variables were used to create the surgery nomograms for OS and TCSS, which had c-indexes of 0.709 and 0.728, respectively; for the external validation cohort, the c-indexes were 0.691 and 0.711, respectively. Nine variables were used to create the nonsurgery nomograms for OS and TCSS, which had c-indexes of 0.750 and 0.754, respectively. The calibration curves of the 5- and 8-year surgery and nonsurgery nomograms showed excellent agreement between the probabilities and observed values. By incorporating clinicopathological and host characteristics in patients, we are the first to establish nomograms that accurately predict prognosis for individual patients with TSCC. These nomograms ought to provide more personalized and reliable prognostic information, and improve clinical decision-making for TSCC patients.

Abstract:According to the annual statistics of the American Cancer Society, lung cancer has become the leading cause of death for cancer patients. It is therefore vital to research lung cancer prognosis prediction model. From the characteristics of cancer data samples, we consider the unbalanced category data. Due to the small number of samples, one of the commonly used over-sampling techniques is selected, which is an improved Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (Borderline-SMOTE) to expand a few types of samples. For labeling the dataset by 5-year survival time, support vector machines (SVM) and Cox-proportional hazard regression model (COX) were used for training and calculating, respectively. The results show that the performance of the proposed prognosis model based on SVM is better. Similarly, 2-year survival time as the standard for labeling the dataset, the experimental results also show that the performance of the proposed model is better, which verifies the validity and reliability of the designed model.

Abstract:Abstract Background and Objectives Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is associated with one of the poorest overall survivals among soft tissue sarcomas. We sought to develop and externally validate a model for 5‐year survival prediction in patients with appendicular or truncal LMS using machine learning algorithms. Methods The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was used for development and internal validation of the models; external validation was assessed using our institutional database. Five machine learning algorithms were developed and then tested on our institutional database. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and Brier score were used to assess model performance. Results A total of 2209 patients from the SEER database and 81 patients from our tertiary institution were included. All models had excellent calibration with AUC 0.84−0.85 and Brier score 0.15−0.16. After assessing the performance indicators according to the TRIPOD model, we found that the Elastic‐Net Penalized Logistic Regression outperformed other models. The AUCs of the institutional data were 0.83 (imputed) and 0.85 (complete‐case analysis) with a Brier score of 0.16. Conclusion Our study successfully developed five machine learning algorithms to assess 5‐year survival in patients with LMS. The Elastic‐Net Penalized Logistic Regression retained performance upon external validation with an AUC of 0.85 and Brier score of 0.15.
