Abstract:We construct a new type of spectral sequences for the mixed Hodge structures on the cohomology of locally symmetric varieties. These spectral sequences converge to the edge components in the Hodge triangles, and the E1 terms are expressed by simple geometric invariants associated to the cusps. They already degenerate at E1 in a certain range, which gives a simple expression of some Hodge components. An identity of holomorphic Euler numbers is obtained as a consequence. The theory of cellular (co)sheaves is used in the construction.

Abstract:Szab\'o recently introduced a combinatorially-defined spectral sequence in Khovanov homology. After reviewing its construction and explaining our methodology for computing it, we present results of computations of the spectral sequence. Based on these computations, we make a number of conjectures concerning the structure of the spectral sequence, and towards those conjectures, we prove some propositions.

Abstract:Quillen's fundamental spectral sequences relate André-Quillen homology and cohomology to Tor and Ext functors. The five-term exact sequences arising from these spectral sequences are leveraged to characterize regular and complete intersection local rings. Despite their immense importance in the theory of André-Quillen homology and cohomology, these spectral sequences are not treated in the literature as they merit. A sketchy argument with gaps for a special case of the first spectral sequence appears in an unpublished manuscript of Quillen, while the second spectral sequence is only stated without proof in another paper of Quillen. A rigorous proof of the spectral sequences requires a delicate investigation of the subtle structures involved. The goal of this expository article is to present a comprehensive and detailed proof of Quillen's fundamental spectral sequences in a readable and well-structured manner.

Abstract:The Leray--Serre and the Eilenberg--Moore spectral sequences are fundamental tools for computing the cohomology of a group or, more generally, of a space. We describe the relationship between these two spectral sequences when both of them share the same abutment. There exists a joint tri-graded refinement of the Leray--Serre and the Eilenberg--Moore spectral sequence. This refinement involves two more spectral sequences, the preludes from the title, which abut to the initial terms of the Leray--Serre and the Eilenberg--Moore spectral sequence, respectively. We show that one of these always degenerates from its second page on and that the other one satisfies a local-to-global property: It degenerates for all possible base spaces if and only if it does so when the base space is contractible.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that the etale index of a torsion cohomological Brauer class is divisible by the period of the class. The tool used to make this computation is the Cech approximation of the title. To create the approximation, we use the folklore theorem that the homotopy limit and Postnikov spectral sequences for a cosimplicial space agree beginning with the E2-page. As far we know, this folklore theorem has no proof in the literature, so we include a proof.

Abstract:We construct a multiplicative spectral sequence converging to the cohomology algebra of the diagonal complex of a bisimplicial set with coefficients in a field. The construction provides a spectral sequence converging to the cohomology algebra of the classifying space of a topological category. By applying the machinery to a Borel construction, we determine explicitly the mod $p$ cohomology algebra of the free loop space of the real projective space for each odd prime $p$. This is highlighted as an important computational example of such a spectral sequence. Moreover, we try to represent generators in the singular de Rham cohomology algebra of the diffeological free loop space of a non-simply connected manifold $M$ with differential forms on the universal cover of $M$ via Chen's iterated integral map.

Abstract:With the aim of understanding Morel's result on the $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy sheaves over a field, one extends the theory of unstable spectral sequences of Bousfield and Kan in the $\infty$-categorical setting. With this natural extension, parallel to the classical formalism of 'cohomology theory with supports', we introduce the notion of 'cohomotopy theory with supports'. We extend the Bloch-Ogus-Gabber theorem for Cohomology theory with supports to that of unstable setting, to obtain unstable Gersten (or Cousin) resolutions associated to the coniveau filtration, under suitable assumptions. We apply this theory to motivic homotopy, Nisnevich-local torsors, and Artin-Mazur étale homotopy type.

Abstract: In this note, we use Curtis's algorithm and the Lambda algebra to compute the algebraic Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence of the suspension spectrum of $\mathbb{R}P^\infty$ with the aid of a computer, which gives us its Adams $E_2$-page in the range of $t<72$. We also compute the transfer map on the Adams $E_2$-pages. These data are used in our computations of the stable homotopy groups of $\mathbb{R}P^\infty$ in [6] and of the stable homotopy groups of spheres in [7].

Abstract:Similarities are noted in two Mayer-Vietoris spectral sequences that generalize to any number of ideals in the Mayer-Vietoris exact sequence in local cohomology for two ideals. One has as first terms Čech cohomology with respect to sums of the given ideals and converge to cohomology with respect to the product of the ideals, the other has as first terms Čech cohomology with respect to products of the given ideals and converge to cohomology with respect to the sum of the ideals. The first one was obtained by Lyubeznik in \cite{Lyu}, while the second is constructed in \cite[Chapter 2]{Hol} and could also be deduced from results in \cite{God}. We present results on the cohomology of multiple complexes that enables us to deduce both from two related constructions on multiple complexes. A key ingredient is a fact that seems not to have been noticed before: cohomology with respect to a product of ideals is the one of a subcomplex of the Čech complex computing cohomology with respect to the sum of the given ideals; this provides a much shorter complex to compute cohomology with respect to the product of ideals.

Stable Bases of the Springer Resolution and Representation Theory

Abstract:In this expository note, we review the recent developments about Maulik and Okounkov’s stable bases for the Springer resolution \documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\usepackage{amsmath}\usepackage{wasysym}\usepackage{amsfonts}\usepackage{amssymb}\usepackage{amsbsy}\usepackage{mathrsfs}\usepackage{upgreek}\setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt}\begin{document}$$T^*(G/B)$$\end{document}. In the cohomology case, we compute the action of the graded affine Hecke algebra on the stable basis, which is used to obtain the localization formulae. We further identify the stable bases with the Chern–Schwartz–MacPherson classes of the Schubert cells. This relation is used to prove the positivity conjecture of Aluffi and Mihalcea. For the K theory stable basis, we first compute the action of the affine Hecke algebra on it, which is used to deduce the localization formulae via root polynomial method. Similar as the cohomology case, they are also identified with the motivic Chern classes of the Schubert cells. This identification is used to prove the Bump–Nakasuji–Naruse conjecture about the unramified principal series of the Langlands dual group over non-Archimedean local fields. In the end, we study the wall R-matrices, which relate stable bases for different alcoves. As an application, we give a categorification of the stable bases via the localization of Lie algebras over positive characteristic fields.
LHS-spectral sequences for regular extensions of categories

Abstract:In [F. Xu, On the cohomology rings of small categories, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 212 (2008), 2555-2569], Xu constructs a LHS-spectral sequence for target regular extensions of small categories. We extend this construction to ext-groups and construct a similar spectral sequence for source regular extensions (with right module coefficients). As a special case of these LHS-spectral sequences, we obtain three different versions of Slominska's spectral sequence for the cohomology of regular EI-categories. We show that many well-known spectral sequences related to the homology decompositions of finite groups, centric linking systems, and the orbit category of fusion systems can be obtained as the LHS-spectral sequence of an extension.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a transchromatic phenomenon for Hill--Hopkins--Ravenel and Lubin--Tate theories. This establishes a direct relationship between the equivariant slice spectral sequences of height-$h$ and height-$(h/2)$ theories. As applications of this transchromatic phenomenon, we prove periodicity and vanishing line results for these theories.

Abstract:We compute the slice spectral sequence for the motivic stable homotopy groups of $L$, a motivic analogue of the connective $K(1)$-local sphere over prime fields of characteristic not two. Together with the analogous computation over algebraically closed fields, this yields information about the motivic $K(1)$-local sphere over arbitrary base fields of characteristic not two. To compute the slice spectral sequence, we prove several results which may be of independent interest. We describe the $d_1$-differentials in the slice spectral sequence in terms of the motivic Steenrod operations over general base fields, building on analogous results of Ananyevskiy, R{ö}ndigs, and Østvær for the very effective cover of Hermitian K-theory. We also explicitly describe the coefficients of certain motivic Eilenberg--MacLane spectra and compute the slice spectral sequence for the very effective cover of Hermitian K-theory over prime fields.

On the slice spectral sequence for quotients of norms of Real bordism

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate equivariant quotients of the Real bordism spectrum's multiplicative norm $MU^{((C_{2^n}))}$ by permutation summands. These quotients are of interest because of their close relationship with higher real $K$-theories. We introduce new techniques for computing the equivariant homotopy groups of such quotients. As a new example, we examine the theories $BP^{((C_{2^n}))}\langle m,m\rangle$. These spectra serve as natural equivariant generalizations of connective integral Morava $K$-theories. We provide a complete computation of the $a_{\sigma}$-localized slice spectral sequence of $i^*_{C_{2^{n-1}}}BP^{((C_{2^n}))}\langle m,m\rangle$, where $\sigma$ is the real sign representation of $C_{2^{n-1}}$. To achieve this computation, we establish a correspondence between this localized slice spectral sequence and the $H\mathbb{F}_2$-based Adams spectral sequence in the category of $H\mathbb{F}_2 \wedge H\mathbb{F}_2$-modules. Furthermore, we provide a full computation of the $a_{\lambda}$-localized slice spectral sequence of the height-4 theory $BP^{((C_{4}))}\langle 2,2\rangle$. The $C_4$-slice spectral sequence can be entirely recovered from this computation.

The homological slice spectral sequence in motivic and Real bordism

Abstract:For a motivic spectrum $E\in \mathcal{SH}(k)$, let $\Gamma(E)$ denote the global sections spectrum, where $E$ is viewed as a sheaf of spectra on $\mathrm{Sm}_k$. Voevodsky's slice filtration determines a spectral sequence converging to the homotopy groups of $\Gamma(E)$. In this paper, we introduce a spectral sequence converging instead to the mod 2 homology of $\Gamma(E)$ and study the case $E=BPGL\langle m\rangle$ for $k=\mathbb R$ in detail. We show that this spectral sequence contains the $\mathcal{A}_*$-comodule algebra $(\mathcal{A}//\mathcal{A}(m))^*$ as permanent cycles, and we determine a family of differentials interpolating between $(\mathcal{A}//\mathcal{A}(0))^*$ and $(\mathcal{A}//\mathcal{A}(m))^*$. Using this, we compute the spectral sequence completely for $m\le 3$. In the height 2 case, the Betti realization of $BPGL\langle 2\rangle$ is the $C_2$-spectrum $BP_{\mathbb R}\langle 2\rangle$, a form of which was shown by Hill and Meier to be an equivariant model for $\mathrm{tmf}_1(3)$. Our spectral sequence therefore gives a computation of the comodule algebra $H_*\mathrm{tmf}_0(3)$. As a consequence, we deduce a new ($2$-local) Wood-type splitting \[\mathrm{tmf}\wedge X\simeq \mathrm{tmf}_0(3)\] of $\mathrm{tmf}$-modules predicted by Davis and Mahowald, for $X$ a certain 10-cell complex.

ku-theoretic spectral decompositions for spheres and projective spaces

Abstract:Ben-Zvi--Sakellaridis--Venkatesh described a conjectural extension of the geometric Satake equivalence to spherical varieties, whose spectral decomposition is described by Hamiltonian varieties. The goal of this article is to study their conjecture, especially in the case of spherical varieties of relative rank 1, using tools from homotopy theory. Our discussion relates their conjecture to classical topics in homotopy theory such as the EHP sequence and Hopf fibrations, as well as more modern topics such as Hochschild (co)homology. We will also study an analogue of the derived geometric Satake equivalence and of the Ben-Zvi--Sakellaridis--Venkatesh conjecture with coefficients in connective complex K-theory. In this generalized setting, the dual group (a la Langlands, Gaitsgory--Nadler, Sakellaridis--Venkatesh, Knop--Schalke) remains unchanged, but the specific dual "representation" of the dual group changes. On the spectral/Langlands dual side, we expect that the appropriate replacement of Hamiltonian varieties are given by what we term "ku-Hamiltonian varieties"; this is a notion interpolating between Hamiltonian and quasi-Hamiltonian varieties (a la Alekseev--Malkin--Meinrenken). Finally, we suggest possible generalizations to more exotic cohomology theories such as complex cobordism.
