Abstract:Using phosphogypsum (PG) for preparing backfill material can effectively reduce PG stockpiles and natural resources consumption for backfill mining. However, the F-,- , contained in PG can be an obstacle to the development of the strength of PG backfill material, which may cause a leaching risk during practical application. Therefore, in this paper, the modified materials of biochar, red mud (RM) and carbide slag (CS) were selected to modify PG to promote the development of strength and enhance F-- solidification/stabilization in PG backfill material. The results showed that biochar addition and CS:RM have a significant effect on the setting time of modified PG backfill material. Meanwhile, the addition of 1 % biochar can effectively improve the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of modified PG backfill material. However, the UCS of modified PG backfill material showed a decreasing trend when the addition amount of biochar exceeded 1 %. When the amount of PG is 70 %, 1 % biochar, 16 % CS, 8 % RM, 5 % cement, water/solid is 0.6, UCS can reach 5.28 MPa after curing for 28 d, and the softening coefficient is 0.87. Modified materials can provide active substances to promotes the hydration reaction in the later stages of hydration, which in turn promotes strength evolution. In addition, the modified PG backfill material is a water resistant material that can be used in humid environments, and the leaching concentration of F-- is less than 1 mg/L. The F-- solidification/stabilization mechanism consists of ion exchange, hydrogen bonding, and surface adsorption under the dual action of hydration products and modified materials. This study could provide a theoretical reference for the application of PG backfill materials.
