Abstract:Translation is needed when two different languages interact with one another. It has a history in a long period of time. The question then arise in the term of subtitling or subtitle, it's a new kind of translation. It is not only limited to text translation, but also several unique features of screen translation. This thesis focused on the translation analysis of idiomatic expression in the film "Kung Fu Panda 2" directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson. This study aims to find out (1) type of idiom, (2) the strategy are used in the subtitle, (3) meaning from the idiom, and (4) a dominant strategy used in the film "Kung Fu Panda 2". This research is qualitative research uses descriptive design. The research will be focused to gain a general picture of idiomatic expressions' translation found in the film Kung Fu Panda 2. To collect the data, the researcher watched the film in order to get familiar with idiomatic expressions. This is done repeatedly. In one session the viewing is accompanied with English subtitle, in another occasion with Indonesian subtitle. In the next step all idiomatic expressions found are retyped and charted based on its English subtitle and Indonesian subtitle. The chart consists of four columns: one for number of data, two others for English (SL) and Indonesian subtitles (TL), and four for the time. The result shows that there are four categories of type of idiom in the film "Kung Fu Panda 2" (1) verbal idiom, (2) nominal idiom, (3) adjectival idiom, and (4) adverbial idiom. The idiom has a form from each type. Idiom in form of verbal, researcher found 9 forms of it. Next idiom in case of nominal idiom, here, he found 7 forms. The third idiom is adjectival idiom, in this case he found just two forms away others. And the last is adverbial idioms; from this type, he found 12 in forms of adverbial idiom. Moreover, the meaning of idioms translated in TL from all of the data is about 74 of idioms. Next, the strategy in translating of it, he found four strategies used in the film [1] using idioms of equivalent meaning and form, [2] using idiom with equivalent meaning and different form, [3] using paraphrase, and [4] omission. Finally, researcher enumerates types and strategy in percentage as a concluding of the dominant strategy which is used in the film "Kung Fu Panda 2"
