Abstract:Previous studies have demonstrated conflicting findings regarding the initial MRI patterns of radiotherapy-induced temporal lobe injury (RTLI) and the evolution of different RTLI patterns. The aim of this study was to evaluate the initial MRI pattern and evolution of RTLI in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) by means of a large cohort study.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the Paper Attempts to Solve This paper aims to address the initial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) manifestations and their evolution patterns of radiation-induced temporal lobe injury (RTLI) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). Specifically, the research objectives include: 1. **Assessing Initial MRI Manifestations**: Determining the initial MRI manifestations of RTLI, whether they appear as isolated white matter lesions (WMLs), isolated contrast-enhancing lesions (CELs), or a combination of both. 2. **Studying Evolution Patterns**: Investigating the temporal evolution patterns of these different initial MRI manifestations, including whether different forms of RTLI exhibit different evolution patterns on different sides of the same patient. 3. **Clinical Significance**: Providing a theoretical basis for the early diagnosis of RTLI and guiding the selection of reasonable follow-up intervals and timely treatment plans. Through a large-scale cohort study, the paper attempts to resolve conflicting findings in previous research and provide more reliable data support.
