Abstract:Background Current research suggests that prostate cancer (PCa), one of the most common cancers in men, may be linked to insulin resistance (IR).Triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) was made for a marker of insulin resistance. We investigated the relationship between the TyG index and the risk of PCa. Objective To assess the correlation and dose-response relationship between TyG index and prostate cancer. Method Retrospectively, 316 patients who required prostate biopsy puncture in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from March 2017 to July 2021 were collected, and the relationship between factors such as the TyG index and prostate cancer was analyzed by Logistic regression model combined with a restricted cubic spline. Results (1) The differences in age, initial PSA and TyG index between the two groups were statistically significant; (2) Logistic regression results showed that the risk of prostate cancer in the highest quartile of the TyG index (Q4) was 3.387 times higher than that in the lowest quartile (Q1) (OR=3.387,95% CI [1.511,7.593], P =0.003); (3) The interaction results showed a significant interaction between the TyG index Q4 group and age with the risk of developing prostate cancer ( P for interaction<0.001). (4) The results of the restricted cubic spline showed a linear dose-response relationship between the TyG index and the risk of prostate cancer; (5) The Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve results showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of the TyG index combined with initial PSA and age was 0.840, with a sensitivity and specificity of 62.5% and 93.3%, respectively. Conclusion TyG index and age are risk factors for prostate cancer, and the interaction between the TyG index and different risk factors may increase the risk of prostate cancer. TyG index has some predictive value for the risk of prostate cancer, and the risk of prostate cancer can be reduced by controlling the levels of blood lipids and blood glucose.

Abstract:(1) Background: Increasing evidence indicates that lipid metabolism may influence the concentration of prostate-specific antigen (PSA). However, the association between triglycerides and PSA remains unclear and complicated. Hence, we evaluated the correlation between triglycerides and PSA based on the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. (2) Methods: A total of 2910 participants out of 41,156 participants fit into our study after conducting the screening from the 2003 to 2010 NHANES survey. Serum triglycerides were the independent variable of our study, and PSA was the dependent variable; (3) Results: In our study, the average age of chosen participants was 59.7 years (±12.7). After adjusting for covariates, the result indicated that for each additional unit of serum triglyceride (mg/dL), the PSA concentrations were reduced by 0.0043 ng/mL (−0.0082, −0.0005) with a statistical difference. Furthermore, we used machine learning of the XGBoost model to determine the relative importance of selected variables as well as constructed a smooth curve based on the fully adjusted model to investigate the possible linear relationship between the triglyceride and PSA concentrations. (4) Conclusions: The serum triglyceride is independently and negatively correlated with PSA among American males, which may make it hard to detect asymptomatic prostate cancer and diagnose at an advance stage with higher triglycerides due to detection bias.

Abstract:Objective: The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a reliable substitute indicator of insulin resistance (IR), is considered an independent risk factor for long-term outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease. However, studies investigating the association between TyG and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) are limited and lack direct evidence. We aim to examine the relationship between the TyG index and ASCVD through a comprehensive cross-sectional study. Methods: Overall, 7212 participants from the 1999–2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were included. The baseline TyG index was calculated as ln [fasting triglyceride (mg/dL) × fasting blood glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression, univariate logistic regression, and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to evaluate the association between the TyG index and ASCVD. Results: In the overall population, a multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the TyG level was not only positively associated with ASCVD [OR (95%CI): 1.29 (1.01,1.64), P =0.042], coronary artery disease (CAD) [OR (95%CI): 1.82(1.33,2.48), P <0.001], and stroke [OR (95%CI): 2.68(1.54,4.69), P =0.002], but also linearly correlated with all three ( P -overall<0.001; P -non-linear >0.05). Although the TyG index was not associated with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) [OR (95%CI): 1.00 (0.73,1.36), P >0.900], it showed a U-shaped correlation with PAD ( P -overall <0.001; P -non-linear= 0.0085), and the risk of PAD was minimized when TyG=8.67. By incorporating the TyG index into the baseline risk model, the accuracy of ASCVD prediction was improved [AUC: baseline risk model, 0.7183 vs. baseline risk model + TyG index, 0.7203, P for comparison=0.034]. The results of the subgroup analysis were consistent with those of the main analysis. Conclusion: The TyG index was independently associated with ASCVD, CAD, and stroke, suggesting that it may serve as a valid indicator for predicting ASCVD in the entire population.

Abstract:Objective This study aims to investigate the relationship between triglyceride glucose index (TyG) and erectile dysfunction (ED) among United States (US) adult males. Methods A logistic regression analysis, subgroup analysis, and the computation of the dose-response curve were used to investigate the relationship between TyG index and ED prevalence among participants from the 2001-2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. Results After adjusting for all confounders, each unit increase in TyR index was associated with a 25 percent increase in ED prevalence (OR=1.25, 95%CI:1.03, 1.52), and stratified analysis showed that elevated TyG index was associated with increased ED prevalence in the 50-year old group (OR=1.35, 95% CI:1.05, 1.74), the Mexican-American group (OR=1.50, 95% CI:1.00, 2.23) and BMI 25-29.9 kg/m 2 (OR=1.48, 95% CI:1.08, 2.01). The dose-response curve demonstrated a positive linear connection between the TyG index and the risk of ED. Conclusion It has been shown that a higher TyG index is associated with a higher prevalence of erectile dysfunction. Although the causal relationship is not clear, it still deserves clinical attention

Abstract:Aim The objective of our study was to investigate the potential association between the triglyceride and glucose (TyG) index and the occurrence of prehypertension or hypertension in a cohort of normoglycemic Japanese subjects. Methods The NAGALA physical examination program was conducted in 1994 at Murakami Memorial Hospital in Gifu City, Japan. For our retrospective study, we selected 15,450 participants who had taken part in this program. Our aim was to explore the potential link between the TyG index, a surrogate marker for insulin resistance, and the presence of prehypertension (pre-HTN) or hypertension (HTN). Our analysis included adjustments for clinical demographic attributes and serum biomarkers. Logistic regression was employed to assess the relationship between the TyG index and the likelihood of pre-HTN or HTN. Results A total of 15,450 study subjects were included in our analysis. Notably, the prevalence of both pre-HTN and HTN displayed an ascending trend with increasing quartiles of the TyG index. In our comprehensive multivariable logistic regression analysis, when evaluating TyG as a continuous variable, the adjusted odds ratio (OR) for pre-HTN was OR 1.31 [95% CI 1.11-1.56], while for HTN, it was OR 1.76 [95% CI 1.24-2.5] within the fully adjusted model (model 3). When TyG was stratified into quartiles within model 3, the adjusted ORs for pre-HTN were OR 1.16 [95% CI 1.02-1.31], OR 1.22 [95% CI 1.06-1.41], and OR 1.31 [95% CI 1.08-1.59], respectively, using quartile 1 as the reference. The adjusted ORs for HTN in quartiles 2, 3, and 4 were OR 1.22 [95% CI 0.89-1.66], OR 1.4 [95% CI 1.02-1.91], and OR 1.48 [95% CI 1.02-2.15], respectively, within the same model and analysis, with quartile 1 as the reference. Subgroup analysis indicated that the TyG index exhibited a significant positive correlation with the risk of hypertension or prehypertension, except in the subgroup aged ≥65 years. Conclusion Our study highlights a robust correlation between the TyG index and the likelihood of pre-HTN or HTN in normoglycemic Japanese subjects. This underscores the potential clinical relevance of the TyG index in refining early hypertension management strategies. Nonetheless, the validation of these findings necessitates larger studies with extended follow-up periods.

Abstract:Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the TyG index in the occurrence of periodontitis among the United States (US) population. Methods: We analyzed clinical data from 4813 participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2009 to 2014. the TyG index was calculated as In [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) X fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Dose-response curves, univariate and multivariate logistic analyses were used to analyze the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) between TyG index and periodontitis. In addition, we performed 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM) for periodontitis and no periodontitis participants to further explore the relationship between TyG and periodontitis. Results: A total of 4813 participants were included in our study, of which 1353 (28.1%) reported periodontitis and 3460 (71.9%) no periodontitis. The dose-response curves showed a non-linear positive association between TyG and periodontitis, with the risk of periodontitis increased with increasing TyG. In addition, similar results were still observed after subgroup analysis and PSM analysis. After adjusting for confounding variables, multivariate logistic analysis showed that TyG was associated with an increased risk of periodontitis (aOR =1.153; 95% CI 1.006-1.322, p=0.034). Conclusion: Elevated TyG index was significantly associated with a high risk of periodontitis, and people with a high TyG index should be aware of the risk of periodontitis progression in order to establish lifestyle changes at an early stage.
The role of TyG index in predicting the incidence of diabetes in Chinese elderly men: a 20-year retrospective study

Abstract:Background: The triglyceride glucose index (TyG index) has been regarded as a reliable surrogate marker of insulin resistance and an independent predictor of diabetes. However, few studies have reported the association between the TyG index and diabetes in the elderly population. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the association between the TyG index and diabetes progression in elderly Chinese. Methods: Baseline medical history, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), glucose levels during the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) after 1-hour (1h-PG) and 2-hour (2h-PG), and triglyceride (TG) were obtained from a cohort of 862 elderly (aged ≥ 60 years) Chinese in the Beijing urban area between 1998 and 1999. A follow-up visit was conducted between 1998 and 2019 to assess incident diabetes. TyG index was calculated by the following formula ln[TG (mg/dL) × FPG (mg(dL)/2]. The predictive values of TyG index, lipids, and glucose levels during OGTT were assessed alone and also in a clinical prediction model comprising traditional risk factors using concordance index (C-index). Areas under the receiver operating characteristics curves (AUC) and 95% CIs were calculated. Results: After 20 years of follow-up, there were 544 cases of incident type 2 diabetes mellitus (63.1% of incidence). The multivariable HRs (95% CI) for TyG index, FPG, 1h-PG and 2h-PG, high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-c), and TG were 1.525 (1.290-1.804), 1.350 (1.181-1.544), 1.337 (1.282-1.395), 1.401 (1.327-1.480), 0.505 (0.375-0.681), and 1.120 (1.053-1.192), respectively. The corresponding C-index were 0.623, 0.617, 0.704, 0.694, 0.631, and 0.610, respectively. The AUC (95% CI) for the TyG index, FPG, 1h-PG, 2h-PG, HDL-c, and TG were 0.608 (0.569-0.647), 0.587 (0.548-0.625), 0.766 (0.734-0.797), 0.713 (0.679-0.747), 0.397 (0.358-0.435), and 0.588 (0.549-0.628). The AUC of the TyG index was higher than that of TG but did not differ with FPG and HDL-c. In addition, the AUCs of 1h-PG and 2h-PG were higher than that of the TyG index. Conclusions: Elevated TyG index is independently correlated with an increased risk of incident diabetes in the elderly male population, but it is not superior to OGTT 1h-PG and 2h-PG in predicting the risk of diabetes.

The Triglycerides and Glucose Index Rather Than HOMA-IR is More Associated with Hypogonadism in Chinese Men

Abstract:Previous studies have reported that insulin resistant and low testosterone are related. The triglyceride and glucose index (TyG) well mirrors insulin sensitivity. No study investigated the application of TyG in male hypogonadism. We aimed to explore whether TyG was associated with hypogonadism, and also evaluate the ability of TyG compared to HOMA-IR as a possible hypogonadism predictor. A total of 4299 male subjects were enrolled from 22 sites in East China. Hypogonadism was defined as total testosterone <11.3 nmol/L. 695 (16.2%) hypogonadal men had significantly higher TyG index. The prevalence of hypogonadism stepwise increased across increasing TyG quartiles (P < 0.01). TyG was negatively associated with sex hormones and hypogonadism after adjustment for age, current smoking status, hypertension and overweight/obesity (all P for trend <0.01). The full-adjusted odds ratio was 6.1 for the highest quartile compared with the lowest quartile of TyG (95% CI 4.51, 8.25, P < 0.001). On ROC curve analysis, a larger area under the curve was found for TyG (0.71, 95% CI 0.69,0.73) than for HOMA-IR (0.68, 95% CI 0.66,0.70). Thus, the TyG was significantly associated with a higher prevalence of hypogonadism in Chinese men. TyG had a better predictive power for hypogonadism than HOMA-IR.
Impacts of triglyceride-glucose index on prognosis of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome: results from an observational cohort study in China

Abstract:Abstract Background The relationship between triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) and the prevalence and prognosis of cardiovascular disease has been confirmed by former studies. However, it remains uncertain whether TyG index has a prognostic impact in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods The study retrospectively enrolled 798 patients (mean age: 60.9 ± 8.3 years; 68.3% men) with T2DM and NSTE-ACS who underwent PCI at Beijing Anzhen Hospital from January to December 2015. TyG index was calculated as previously reported: ln [fasting TGs (mg/dL) * FBG (mg/dL)/2]. The primary endpoint was a composite of adverse events as follows: all-cause death, non-fatal myocardial infarction (MI) and ischemia-driven revascularization. Results TyG index was significantly higher in patients with a primary endpoint event compared with those without. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards analysis showed that 1-unit increase of TyG index was independently associated with higher risk of primary endpoint, independent of other risk factors [hazard ratio (HR) 3.208 per 1-unit increase, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.400–4.289, P < 0.001]. The addition of TyG index to a baseline risk model had an incremental effect on the predictive value for adverse prognosis [AUC: baseline risk model, 0.800 vs. baseline risk model + TyG index, 0.856, P for comparison < 0.001; category-free net reclassification improvement (NRI) 0.346, P < 0.001; integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) 0.087, P < 0.001]. Conclusions Increased TyG index is a significant predictor of adverse prognosis in patients with T2DM and NSTE-ACS undergoing PCI. Further studies need to be performed to determine whether interventions for TyG index have a positive impact on improving clinical prognosis.

[Association between the triglyceride-glucose index and the incidence of nephrolithiasis in male individuals]

Abstract:Objective: To analyze the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the risk of nephrolithiasis across various demographic and clinical subgroups, aiming to enhance early diagnosis and treatment of nephrolithiasis and promote personalized care in diverse populations. Methods: This cross-sectional study analyzed the medical records of 84 968 adults, stratified into three categories (low, middle, high) according to their TyG index scores. To evaluate the association between the TyG index and nephrolithiasis risk, multivariable Logistic regression models were employed, adjusting for potential confounders. Additionally, piecewise linear regression models were used to investigate the non-linear dynamics of the TyG index's relationship with nephrolithiasis risk. Subgroup analyses were performed to explore variations in the effects of the TyG index across different demographic and clinical populations. Results: Increasing TyG index was associated with a higher risk of nephrolithiasis, rising from 4.36% in the low group to 8.96% in the high group (P < 0.001). In adjusted models, males in the middle and high TyG index categories demonstrated significantly elevated risks of nephrolithiasis, with odds ratios of 1.18 (95%CI: 1.07-1.31, P=0.002) and 1.29 (95%CI: 1.15-1.45, P < 0.001), respectively. Conversely, in females, the association was not statistically significant post-adjustment (OR=0.98, 95%CI: 0.82-1.16, P=0.778). Among males, for each unit increment in the TyG index below the critical threshold of 8.98, there was a notable 40% escalation in the risk of developing nephrolithiasis (OR=1.40, 95%CI: 1.24-1.58, P < 0.001). Surpassing this threshold, the TyG index no longer conferred a significant increase in risk (OR=0.91, 95%CI: 0.78-1.06, P=0.24). Subgroup analyses indicated that this association remained stable regardless of age, BMI, or hypertension status. Conclusion: The TyG index is positively associated with the risk of nephrolithiasis in males, demonstrating a nonlinear dose-response relationship that becomes especially pronounced at certain index levels. This biomarker could potentially serve as a valuable clinical tool for identifying males who are at a high risk of developing nephrolithiasis, thereby enabling targeted preventive strategies. Further research is urgently needed to explore the underlying mechanisms and to verify the applicability of these results across different populations.
Triglyceride-glucose index and estimated 10-year risk of a first hard cardiovascular event

Abstract:Background Whether Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is associated with 10-year risk of a first hard atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) event in the United States remains unclear. Methods In this cross-sectional study, the participants, ranged from 40 to 79 years old, were from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 1999 and 2018. TyG index was the independent variable and 10-year risk of a first hard ASCVD was the dependent variable. The other variables, such as age, gender, race, body mass index (BMI), hypertension treatment states, smoking states and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) et al. were considered as the potential confounding factors. Multivariate linear regression models and smooth curve fittings were used to evaluate the association between TyG index and 10-year risk of a first hard ASCVD event. Results A total of 2,142 participants were included in the analysis. The results showed that TyG index was associated with an increased 10-year risk of a first hard ASCVD event [β = 2.208, 95% (1.716, 2.700), P < 0.00001]. The association had statistical significance in both men [β = 3.862 95% CI (3.274, 4.450), P < 0.00001] and women [β = 1.067, 95% CI (0.286, 1.849), P = 0.00756)] according to subgroup analysis. Smooth curve fittings revealed that TyG index was linearly associated with 10-year risk of ASCVD in both male and female. Conclusion Triglyceride-glucose index was associated with an increased 10-year risk of a first hard ASCVD event in the United States, suggesting it is necessary to monitor and control an appropriate range of TyG index.

Abstract:Objects: It remains unclear whether the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has correlations with gallstones. This study aimed to investigate the association between TyG index and gallstones. Methods: Data was obtained from the 2017-2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Participants who provided complete data about TyG index and gallstones were included in the analysis. Multivariable regression analysis and subgroup analysis were preformed to estimate the relationship between TyG index and gallstones. Restricted cubic splines (RSC) was employed to calculate the cut off value. Results: The TyG index was independently associated with gallstones and demonstrates a clear positive correlation (OR = 1.10; 95% CI: 1.01-1.21; p = 0.033). The threshold value is 8.98, showing a positive correlation between TyG index and gallstones when the TyG index is less than 8.98 (Log likelihood ratio P < 0.001). Subgroup analysis indicates that the correlation between TyG and gallstones is mainly observed in individuals with obesity, females, younger individuals, and those with normal blood sugar levels, with these subgroups all acting as mediators between TyG and gallstones. Conclusions: Higher TyG index was linked to a higher chance of developing gallstones. Managing insulin resistance (IR) could help reduce the risk of gallstones since the TyG index is an indicator of IR.

Abstract:This study used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to investigate the relationship between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and gallstones. We evaluated the data collected between 2017 to 2020. To evaluate the relationship between TyG index and gallstones, logistic regression analysis, basic characteristics of participants, subgroup analysis, and smooth curve fitting were utilized. The study included 3870 participants over the age of 20 years, 403 of whom reported gallstones, with a prevalence rate of 10.4%. After adjusting for all confounding factors, the risk of gallstones increased by 41% for each unit increase in the TyG index (OR 1.41, 95% CI 1.07, 1.86). The smooth curve fitting also showed a positive correlation between the TyG index and gallstones. Subgroup analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between the TyG index and the risk of gallstones in those aged < 50 years, women, individuals with total cholesterol levels > 200 mg/dL, individuals with body mass index (BMI) > 25, and individuals without diabetes. The risk of gallstones is positively correlated with a higher TyG index. Thus, the TyG index can be used as a predictor of the risk of gallstones.

Abstract:Background and Objectives: We aimed to investigate the association of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index with hypertension and compare the discriminative power of the TyG index, lipid, glycemic parameters for hypertension using the China Health Examination Collaborative study (CHEC Study). Methods and Study Design: Data were collected at Ningbo Mingzhou Hospital and Beijing physical examination center from the CHEC Study during 2014 and 2021. Participants with >= 2 medical check-up times were included. The TyG index is the logarithmized product of fasting triglyceride and glucose. Generalised estimation equation (GEE) model was used to evaluate the association between the TyG index, lipid parameters, glycemic parameters and hypertension. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to explore the predictive ability of TyG index on hypertension at different years of medical check-up. Results: 112,902 participants with an average age of 42.8 years were recruited in the study, 36,839 participants developed hypertension over the 8-year period. GEE model analysis showed that the ORs with 95% CI of hypertension were 3.35 (3.15-3.57), 1.86 (1.76-1.95), 1.67 (1.581.78), 1.45 (1.33-1.58), 1.24 (1.19-1.29), 0.92 (0.86-0.99), and 1.90 (1.83-1.97) in the highest versus lowest quintiles of TyG index, TG/HDL-C ratio, TG, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C and FPG in model 2. The area under the ROC curve of the overall years of medical check-up was significantly higher than a particular year in predicting hypertension (AUC: 0.883, p < 0.05). Conclusions: TyG index is associated with hypertension and shows the superior discriminative ability for hypertension compared with lipid and glycemic parameters.

Abstract:BACKGROUND While studies have suggested the association between triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a reliable surrogate for insulin resistance and hypertension data are limited to the correlation of TyG and central blood pressure. This study aims to test the hypothesis that a higher TyG index is associated with elevated central systolic blood pressure (cSBP). METHODS A total of 9249 Chinese hypertensive adults from the H-type Hypertension and Stroke Prevention and Control Project were analyzed in this study. cSBP was measured noninvasively using an A-Pulse CASPro device. TyG index was calculated as ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) x fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Smoothing curve and multivariate linear regression models [beta coefficient (beta) with 95% CI] were applied to analyze the association between TyG index and cSBP. Subgroup analyses were conducted to explore potential modifications to such a correlation. RESULTS The overall mean TyG index is 8.8 +/- 0.7, and the total mean cSBP is 131.3 +/- 12.8 mmHg. TyG index was observed to be independently and positively associated with cSBP among the total population (beta = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.53-1.31, P < 0.001), and participants who do not use antihypertensive drugs (beta = 1.03, 95% CI: 0.46-1.60, P < 0.001), which is in accordance with the result of the smoothing curve. The association between TyG index and cSBP appears robust in all tested subgroups. CONCLUSIONS TyG index is positively and independently associated with cSBP among hypertensive adults. Our study result suggests that TyG index might serve as an effective marker for vascular function.
Association Between Triglyceride-Glucose Index and Carotid Atherosclerosis in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis

Abstract:Objective To investigate the association of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index with atherosclerotic risk among patients with PsA. Methods This cross-sectional study included 165 consecutive PsA patients receiving carotid ultrasonography with integrated TyG index, calculated as ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dl) x fasting glucose (mg/dl)/2]. Logistic regression models were applied to analyse the association of TyG index as continuous variables and tertiles with carotid atherosclerosis and carotid artery plaque. Fully adjusted model included sex, age, smoking, BMI, comorbidities and psoriatic-related variables. Results Overall, PsA patients with carotid atherosclerosis had substantially higher TyG index than those without [8.82 (0.50) vs 8.54 (0.55), P = 0.002]. The frequency of carotid atherosclerosis was increased with increases in TyG index tertiles, showing 14.8%, 34.5%, 44.6% for tertile 1, 2 and 3, respectively (P = 0.003). Multivariate logistic analyses showed that each 1-unit increase in TyG index was significantly associated with prevalent carotid atherosclerosis [unadjusted odds ratio (OR) 2.65 (1.39-5.05); fully adjusted OR 2.69 (1.02-7.11)]. Compared with patients in tertile 1 of TyG index, the unadjusted and fully adjusted OR for occurrence of carotid atherosclerosis were 4.64 (1.85-11.60) and 5.10 (1.54-16.93) in patients in tertile 3. Similarly, higher prevalent carotid artery plaque was observed with increasing TyG index [unadjusted OR 3.11 (1.54-6.26); fully adjusted OR 3.61 (1.15-11.38)] or in tertile 3 vs tertile 1 [unadjusted OR 10.20 (2.83-36.82); fully adjusted OR 17.89 (2.88-111.11)]. Additionally, TyG index provided incremental predictive capacity beyond established risk factors, shown by an increase in discrimination ability (all P < 0.001). Conclusions TyG index was positively correlated with the burden of atherosclerosis in PsA patients, independent of traditional cardiovascular risk factors and psoriatic-related factors. These findings suggest that TyG index may be a promising atherosclerotic marker for the PsA population.

Abstract:Abstract Background The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) has been regarded as a reliable alternative marker of insulin resistance and an independent predictor of cardiovascular outcomes. Whether the TyG index predicts adverse cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains uncertain. The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of the TyG index in patients with diabetes and ACS. Methods A total of 2531 consecutive patients with diabetes who underwent coronary angiography for ACS were enrolled in this study. Patients were divided into tertiles according to their TyG index. The primary outcomes included the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), defined as all-cause death, non-fatal myocardial infarction and non-fatal stroke. The TyG index was calculated as the ln (fasting triglyceride level [mg/dL] × fasting glucose level [mg/dL]/2). Results The incidence of MACE increased with TyG index tertiles at a 3-year follow-up. The Kaplan–Meier curves showed significant differences in event-free survival rates among TyG index tertiles (P = 0.005). Multivariate Cox hazards regression analysis revealed that the TyG index was an independent predictor of MACE (95% CI 1.201–1.746; P < 0.001). The optimal TyG index cut-off for predicting MACE was 9.323 (sensitivity 46.0%; specificity 63.6%; area under the curve 0.560; P = 0.001). Furthermore, adding the TyG index to the prognostic model for MACE improved the C-statistic value (P = 0.010), the integrated discrimination improvement value (P = 0.001) and the net reclassification improvement value (P = 0.019). Conclusions The TyG index predicts future MACE in patients with diabetes and ACS independently of known cardiovascular risk factors, suggesting that the TyG index may be a useful marker for risk stratification and prognosis in patients with diabetes and ACS.
