Abstract:Evaluation of nanoparticles (NPs) for biomedical applications has received a lot of attention for detailed study on pharmacokinetics prior to clinical application. In this study, pure C-SiO(2) (crystalline silica) NPs and SiO(2) nanocomposites with silver (Ag) and zinc oxide (ZnO) were prepared by utilizing different synthesis routes such as sol-gel and co-precipitation techniques. The prepared NPs showed highly crystalline nature as confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis where average...

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to evaluate the potential impacts of different types of silica - based nanoparticles (including pure silica nanoparticles (C - SiO2 NPs), silver - silica nanocomposites (Ag - SiO2 NPs) and zinc oxide - silica nanocomposites (ZnO - SiO2 NPs)) on the blood biochemistry, oxidative stress and hepatotoxicity of albino rats. Specifically, the researchers synthesized these nanoparticles and used different characterization techniques (such as X - ray diffraction analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and ultraviolet - visible spectroscopy) to confirm their structures and optical properties. Subsequently, through in - vivo experiments, the effects of these nanoparticles on the blood parameters, serum biochemical indicators, liver histological structure, as well as oxidative stress and antioxidant enzymes of albino rats were explored, aiming to evaluate the biocompatibility and toxic effects of these nanoparticles. The main purpose of the study is to fill the information gap in the existing literature regarding the toxic effects of Ag - SiO2 NPs and provide a comparative study to understand the different toxic responses of C - SiO2, Ag - SiO2 and ZnO - SiO2 NPs to albino rats at the same dose, thereby providing a scientific basis for the safe application of these nanomaterials. The study found that C - SiO2 NPs exhibited the highest toxicity, while Ag - SiO2 and ZnO - SiO2 NPs were relatively more biocompatible, indicating that the coating technology can reduce the toxic effects of nanoparticles.
