Abstract:The objective of this paper is to produce Autoclaved aerated Concrete (AAC) by using Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) as the partial replacement of the fly ash. AAC has emerged as one of the most prominent sustainable material because of its benefits such as fire resistance, light weight and high workability etc. Proportioning the mix components for AAC is a most important step in generating high-strength AAC block. The GGBS have been replaced at 24%, 30% and 36% of the total weight and have been tested for compressive strength , water absorption and acid resistance. The experimental results have shown that there has been an increase in compressive strength by 28–44% when compared to conventional AAC block and in acid resistance tests, the ratio of weight reduction and compressive strength declined as GGBS increased. It is been found that the block is eco-friendly as it contains non-toxic materials and the waste generated from industries. It can be used for constructing low load bearing structures and as the block is light weight material, it decreases the dead load of the structure.
