Abstract:Highly flexible and stretchable nanocomposite solid polymer electrolyte (NSPE) films based on poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/ poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) miscible blend host matrix (75/25 wt/wt.%), lithium bis(trifluoromethane sulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI)-dopant salt (40 wt.%), and barium titanate (BaTiO 3 ) nanofiller (concentrations x = 0, 5, 10, and 15 wt.%) are prepared by homogenized solution cast followed by melt pressing technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) thermograms of (75PEO/25PVP)/40(wt.%)LiTFSI/ x (wt.%)BaTiO 3 composition-based NSPE films revealed that these ion–dipole complexes are predominantly amorphous. The UV–Vis absorbance spectra of these materials confirmed dual energy bandgaps, lie in the wider range of 2.77 to 4.79 eV, explaining their wide bandgap tunable semiconducting behaviour highly creditable for advances in stretchable and biocompatible type optoelectronic and iontronic devices. The analysis of 20 Hz to 1 GHz broadband range complex dielectric permittivity, loss tangent angle, and ac electrical conductivity spectra of these NSPE films, at 27 °C, illustrated the contribution of various dielectric polarization and relaxation processes in different frequency ranges which are marginally affected by the variation of nanofiller concentration. The maximum dc ionic conductivity of 2.03 μS/cm is obtained for the 10 wt.% of BaTiO 3 -incorporated NSPE film, at 27 °C. A relationship between ionic conductivity and ion-coupled chain segmental relaxation time along with the consideration of favourable ion-conducting paths in these NSPE materials of varying nanofiller concentration is established. Appreciable ionic conductivity with sufficient ion transference number and high electrochemical stability of these NSPE films suggests that they could be used in the dimensional design and development of high-performance all-solid-state ion-conducting energy storage devices especially, the lithium ion batteries and supercapacitors.
