Abstract:Dear Editor, Lung cancer is one of the most common causes of cancerrelated deaths worldwide.Despite great progress in the development of lung cancer treatments, the prognoses of patients with advanced stage cancer remains poor (Torre et al.,2015).Growing evidence has demonstrated that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play critical roles in carcinogenesis (Ponting et al., 2009).Homeobox transcript antisense intergenic RNA (HOTAIR), a transcript from the HOXC locus (12q13.13), has been demonstrated to be a vital modulator of deterioration in different cancers (Li et al., 2017).Recently,HOTAIR was revealed to be aberrantly upregulated in lung cancer, where it functions as an oncogene to promote tumourigenesis and metastasis (Jiang et al., 2018;Wang et al.,2016).Increasing evidence suggests that HOTAIR acts as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) and is closely associated with malignant processes and poor outcomes in various malignancies (Chang et al., 2018;Zhao et al., 2018).Nevertheless, its precise biological role and potential molecular mechanism in lung cancer remain to be elucidated.
