Abstract:Red culture embodies CPC’s (the Communist Party of China) history of leading the Chinese people to progress. To tell the red in an appropriate way may give the international community chance to better understand China’s governance system. Being the cradle of China,s revolutionary thoughts, Zhejiang has a rich variety of red cultures deep-rooted in its history. Together with its traditional thoughts, Zhejiang Red Culture has well shaped the present-day Zhejiang Province and its people and has set a very good example of China’s reform and progress in the modern era. Based on analyzing the status quo of Zhejiang Red Culture going global, the present paper attempts to make proposals for enhancing the translation and interpretation of both the tangible and intangible red culture resources under the guideline of Translational Communication Studies.

Abstract:Red Culture is one of the symbols of Chinese national spirit in China. With the enhancement of China’s international status, the world gets to know the Red Culture stage by stage. And yet, in the process of Red Culture’s foreign publicity, the depth and breadth of cultural diffusion have been affected by different factors. This paper objectively analyzes the current situation of foreign publicity translation about Red Culture and then focuses on the Red tourism industry to explore the characteristics and advantages of foreign-oriented publicity translation under the intercultural communicative perspective. In the end, we are trying to come up with some methods to increase the accuracy of Red Culture publicity translation.

Abstract:As China's red tourism continues to heat up, it not only attracts Chinese people to study, but also welcomes more foreign tourists in recent years. At this time, the English translation of public signs and publicity materials is prominent. Under this background, under the guidance of theories such as cross-cultural pragmatic English translation, a field survey was conducted on the current situation of English translation of major red tourist attractions in Hunan Province. Research shows: There are obvious grammatical errors, nonstandard pragmatics and cultural barriers in the English translation of Hunan red tourism culture. In view of the above problems, we should strengthen the training of foreign language translation talents for red tourism, and introduce relevant English translation standards to standardize them. In addition, it is necessary to establish the English translation corpus of Hunan red tourism culture. The problem of cultural English translation is to improve the translator's cross-cultural awareness and professional quality to achieve the best English translation effect.

Abstract:Red tourism, a special type of tourism with distinct Chinese characteristics, is an important indicator of Chinaʼs soft power. Red Tourism Translation (RTT) is a channel for China to introduce its red culture and provide foreigners with an understanding of Chinaʼs revolutionary history and traditions. Based on the fundamental principles of Reception Aesthetics such as horizon of expectation, aesthetic distance, semantic uncertainty and cultural gaps, this study analyzes cases and examines the cultural misunderstandings and mistranslations in English translation of the red tourism text in Mao Zedong Memorial Museum in Shaoshan, proposes a reader-centered model in RTT and argues that in RTT, the target readers should be comprehensively catered to at linguistic, cognitive, cultural and aesthetic levels. This model involves remaining faithful towards the original information, providing necessary background information, omitting redundant expressions, restructuring understandable aesthetic experience for the target readers, which will facilitate the smooth spread of Chinese red culture and realize the integrity, authenticity and uniqueness of its ethnic identity in this dissemination process.

A Comparative Study on Three Chinese-English Translations of Culture-Loaded Words in Shui Hu Zhuan

Abstract:Shui Hu Zhuan is one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature, and the cornucopia of culture-loaded words contained in it has now become the focus of translation research. This study delves into the translation of culture-loaded words in Shui Hu Zhuan by meticulously examining three renowned English translations by Sidney Shapiro, Pearl S. Buck, and Dent Young. Adopting a qualitative research approach with descriptive interpretation, the study conducts a descriptive comparative analysis of the translations from four dimensions: official-title words, religious-related words, historical-culture words, and nicknames. From the perspective of functional equivalence, it is found that Buck's version frequently employs literal translation. Dent-Young’s version is characterized by strong readability and flexibility that transcends rigid translation strategies. Shapiro, on the other hand, skillfully combines liberal translation with literal translation, demonstrating a nuanced approach that captures the essence of the original text.

Abstract:Winning of the Nobel Prize for Literature gave Mo Yan an international repute. And the study of Howard Goldblatts translation of Mos work has become a trend. Previous studies have already taken various of perspectives to research Goldblatts translation texts, focusing on his translation strategies and the effects in the western world. As Red Sorghum is among the most popular novels of Mo Yan in the western world, this essay will take it as the research material to reveal Goldblatts translation strategy of Explicitation from the perspective of the Relevance Theory, and thus to conclude a feasible approach for translators to disseminate Chinese literature and culture to be seen and heard by the world. It creatively combines Explicitation in stylistics and the Relevance Theory to categorize the effects of the translation in three types: add dramatic effects, enhance the tone and make the words more vivid. The findings indicate that Explicitation is feature of Goldblatts translation work and it does take positive effects on the dissemination of Chinese culture, providing the target readers the highest contextual effect with the lowest processing efforts.

Abstract:The translation and dissemination of literature is a critical means of cultural exchange, enabling the transmission of ideas, values, and traditions across linguistic and cultural boundaries. In recent years, multi-modal translation theory has emerged as a significant framework for understanding the complexities involved in translating literary works that encompass various modes of representation, such as text, images, and sound. This research focuses on "Red Sorghum", a seminal work of Shandong red literature, which is renowned for its vivid portrayal of rural life in China during the 1930s and 1940s. The novel, written by Mo Yan, winner of the Nobel Prize in literature, has been widely acclaimed for its powerful narrative and rich cultural connotations. The study examines the multi-modal characteristics of the text, the translation strategies employed, and the multi-modal transformations that occur during the translation process. By adopting a multi-modal approach to translation, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in translating literary works, particularly those with rich cultural and historical contexts. The findings of this research have implications for the field of translation studies and offer insights into the effective dissemination of literary works across cultures.
A Study of Cultural Output in the Translation of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature Based on the Interpretive Structure Model

Abstract:Abstract This paper examines in detail the Chinese cultural elements in contemporary Chinese literature, and analyzes the state of presentation and regional characteristics of Chinese cultural elements through data. A quantitative statistical method is used to examine the translation strategies adopted by the English translation of Red Sorghum for the cultural elements, and typical samples are selected and discussed in the light of translation theories. With the help of the explanatory structure model, the mutual influence relationship between the indicators of the cultural elements of the translation of Red Sorghum is analyzed, and a directed graph of the recursive structure of the indicator elements is constructed. According to the results, the translations of contemporary Chinese literature contain six different types of Chinese cultural elements, including character elements, object elements, landscape elements, conceptual elements, folklore elements, and other elements. The regions of East China (31.05%) and North China (26.11%) accounted for a larger proportion of the geographic regions. In the English translation of Red Sorghum, approximately 16%-35% of Chinese object elements were accurately translated. According to the explanatory structure model, the level of cultural output in the translation of Red Sorghum is directly influenced by object elements, landscape elements, conceptual elements, and folklore elements. The analysis process and results of this paper help promote research on the level of translated cultural output, which has certain theoretical reference significance and application value.

Abstract:Abstract In recent years, under the guidance of the strategy of “Chinese culture going out”, Chinese culture has made great progress in foreign relations and more and more foreign audiences begin to understand and accept Chinese culture. However, according to the traditional Chinese culture, translation quality problems still exist in such important links as external advertising translation and media communication. Translation language is not unique, and media integration and communication are not solid enough. Therefore, this paper studies the external communication of Excellent Traditional Chinese culture from the perspective of machine translation. This article will outstanding traditional culture propaganda machine translation strategy as the key object of study, expounds the present situation of the traditional cultural translation, problems and causes, analyze the construction of China’s outstanding traditional culture value and ideology is facing opportunities and challenges, to solve the problem of Chinese excellent traditional culture of foreign spread new conditions to provide a new research idea. Research results show that the Chinese excellent traditional culture heralded the exploration of the machine translation needs to be further discussed, need to collect more up-to-date data, establishing the system of regulation, continue to test and practice to explore the new era of Chinese excellent traditional culture of translation strategy, build a three-dimensional, omni-directional, multi-channel publicity translation system of Chinese excellent traditional culture.
A Study on the Readability of the English Versions of Chinese Red Tourism Based on Readers’ Response

Abstract:The year 2021 is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. With the rapid development of red tourism in China, the importance of red publicity translation has become increasingly prominent. How to evaluate the readability of red publicity translation has gradually become a hot issue. Taking the English versions of Museum of the War of Chinese People’s Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Jinggangshan Revolution Museum, Chongqing Hongyan Revolution History Museum and Nanhu Revolution Memorial Museum as examples, this article collects 16 target language readers’ feedbacks on the red tourism publicity translations through questionnaire and interview. The results show that the readability of the translation is influenced by many factors such as the quality of the text, the length of the text and the background of the readers. Due to the lack of understanding of the target language and text functions, there are various problems in the translation of words, sentences and discourses. Studies show that the emphasis of the importance of target language readers in quality assessment of red tourism publicity texts may effectively prevent researchers from substituting their own subjective judgments for readers’ feedback, thus; it is important to provide a more readable publicity text. This article attempts to improve the readability of red publicity translation, so as to better promote Chinese red tourism and spread Chinese red culture.

Abstract:This study examines the impact of red culture on corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance based on hand-collected data on red culture. The results showed a significant positive relationship between red culture and ESG. The channel analysis shows that red culture enhances corporate ESG performance by strengthening the quality of corporate internal controls and the moral cultivation of executives. In addition, the positive effect of red culture on corporate ESG performance is more pronounced in areas with state-owned enterprises, weaker external cultural shocks, and poorer market environments. Overall, our study revealed the soft governance role of red culture.

Abstract:Hunan Province with its abundant revolutionary tourism resources embodies profound historical, cultural, and educational values that are of paramount importance in disseminating China's red culture globally. Accurate and effective translation of these resources is crucial to sharing the rich heritage in Hunan with the world. This paper delves into the essence of Huxiang culture, its intricate connections with Hunan's revolutionary tourism, and identifies challenges in translating and promoting this heritage internationally. To address these challenges, three key strategies concerning selection of content for translation and dissemination, cultivation of translation and communication talents as well as integration of dissemination channels and expansion of dissemination personnel and entities for enhancing the external publicity of Hunan's revolutionary tourism are proposed. Focusing on revolutionary tourism attractions in Shaoshan, Hunan Province, this paper adopts the principle of "three closenesses in international publicity translation": closeness to social and political realities, closeness to cultural uniqueness, and closeness to target audiences. By adhering to these principles, the paper explores tailored translation strategies that effectively communicate the essence of Hunan's red tourism to a global audience. Firstly, it is imperative to closely align the translations with Hunan's social and political realities, ensuring authenticity and relevance. Secondly, the unique characteristics of Huxiang culture must be prominently showcased in the translations to preserve its cultural identity and attract international interest. Lastly, continuous consideration of foreign audiences' needs, preferences, thought patterns, and language habits is essential for crafting translations that resonate with them, thereby enhancing comprehension and engagement. After all, the quality of translation must be elevated to embody the cultural confidence and consciousness inherent in Huxiang culture. Only then can the external publicity translation of Hunan's red tourism unleash its full potential, exerting a profound influence and fostering inexhaustible creativity in the realm of international cultural exchange.

Abstract:According to eco-translatology, a translator, the focus and crucial part in a translation eco-translation chain, should adapt fully to the translation environment, which contains a series of elements including languages, societies, cultures, economy, communication and so on. Moreover, the translator will make a proper choice in constructing a translation in the target language. In the above-mentioned process of adaption and choice, eco-translatology claims that linguistics, communication and culture are the three dimensions which the translator is expected to consider about. In addition, this article describes the current existing situation and eco-translation environment and, then makes a tentative translation of some Cantonese culturally loaded words from the perspective of eco-translatology and of interpreting translators’ responsibilities. The article claims that only if achieving the three dimensions of linguistics, communication and culture, the translator can provide the best translation version. Hopefully, the translation study based on eco-translatology will provide academic support for traditional Chinese cultural communication.
