Abstract:The paper discusses the role of wages in attracting personnel to the Arctic regions of Russia. These regions are considered in the context of their compliance with the all-Russian cross-regional trends of pairing migration and wages identified in the course of the work. Based on the analysis of the total values of migration since 2015, it is shown that high wages (above the Russian average) in a number of Arctic regions and regions with Arctic territories do have a significant positive impact on the influx of population into them, however, they are characterized by an equally large outflow of the population, also (formally) positively dependent on wages. This result may reflect the widespread use of the shift method of work in a number of Arctic regions, as well as the processes of active transformation of the economy in them in recent years. At the same time, it is obvious that the salary factor does not play the most important role in retaining the population in the Russian Arctic, which, in the light of new large-scale tasks for its development, makes us turn to other indicators of socio-economic development, as well as natural and climatic factors affecting migration and recruitment of workers.
