Abstract:The rational design and fabrication of high-performance electrochemical sensors for the determination of environmentally hazardous substances, such as fenitrothion, is of great significance and remains a great challenge. Understanding the interaction between fenitrothion and substrates is critical to inform the design of electrochemical sensors. Herein, we have developed an electrochemical sensor based on nitrogen and sulfur co doped holey graphene (NS-HG) for fenitrothion. NS-HG with high levels of nitrogen and sulfur leaded to excellent conductivity and a fast electron transfer rate. NS-HG modified electrode showed high electrochemical activity towards fenitrothion. The results were supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The adsorption energy calculations and density of states analysis (DOS) showed that NS-HG exhibited strengthened fenitrothion adsorption and fast electron transfer rate by nitrogen and sulfur co-doping. The fenitrothion sensor based on NS-HG showed an excellent analytical response with high sensitivity, low LOD (0.062 ng & sdot;ml- 1), excellent selectivity, stability, and satisfactory recoveries for real samples. This research provides new insights into understanding the synergetic effect of co-dopant, and new opportunities for the rational design of electrochemical sensors.

Abstract:A novel signal-amplified electrochemical assay for the determination of fenitrothion was developed, based on the redox behaviour of organophosphorus pesticides on a glassy carbon working electrode. The electrode was modified using graphene oxide dispersion. The electrochemical response of fenitrothion at the modified electrode was investigated using cyclic voltammetry, current-time curves, and square-wave voltammetry. Experimental parameters, namely the accumulation conditions, pH value, and volume of dispersed material, were optimised. Under the optimum conditions, a good linear relationship was obtained between the oxidation peak current and the fenitrothion concentration. The linear range was 1–400 ng·mL −1 , with a detection limit of 0.1 ng·mL −1 (signal-to-nose ratio = 3). The high sensitivity of the sensor was demonstrated by determining fenitrothion in pakchoi samples.
An efficient electrochemical sensor based on Ce-MOF/g-C3N5 composite for detection of nitrofurazone

Abstract:The Ce-MOF/g-C3N5 composite was first constructed using a simple reflux method in the oil bath. And the electrochemical sensor based on this composite presents high performance for the detection of nitrofurazone. Interestingly, this sensor exhibits a extra-wide linear range composed of two line segments (7~100 μM and 100~2913 μM), as well as a low detection limit (LOD) of 6.15 μM (S/N=3) under optimal experimental conditions. Additionally, the sensor demonstrates exceptional selectivity, reproducibility and stability. More importantly, the proposed electrochemical sensor can effectively monitor nitrofurazone in the real samples, such as urea and tap water, and obtains ideal recoveries. The reason why the sensor has such excellent performance is the synergistic effect of the two components in the Ce-MOF/g-C3N5. Compared to Ce-MOF, the introduction of g-C3N5 effectively not only enhances conductivity of Ce-MOF/g-C3N5, but also makes Ce-MOF/g-C3N5 expose more active sites, which are conducive to increase electrocatalytic activity to reduce nitrofurazone. This research contributes new scientific research ideas for fabricating ideal electrochemical sensor based on g-C3N5 and MOFs.

Abstract:A Tyr/Glu/Fe3O4/Nafion/CNT multilayer modified electrode was employed for the detection of carbofuran in samples. The configuration of the nanostructure on the electrode provides a favorable environment for the Tyr electrocatalytic characterization and fast electron transfer. The surface of the sensor was characterized by TEM methods. A set of experimental conditions were also optimized for the detection of the pesticide. The developed biosensor showed high sensitivity, stability and reproducibility, which had a Low detection limit of 2.0 × 10-9 mol/L for carbofuran.

Abstract:A nano composite film was fabricated by dispersing nano scale Ni(OH)(2) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). The mophorlogy of the film was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose in alkaline medium on the Ni(OH)(2)-CNT-PVDF (NCP) composite modified glass carbon electrode had been investigated. The stability of the composite is confirmed by cyclic voltammetry measurements in sodium hydroxide solution (0.50 M, scan rate 100 mV s(-1)). The NCP composite film maintains the electrocatalytic activity of the nano scale Ni(OH)(2) and is used to fabricate a nonenzymatic biosensor for electrochemical detection of glucose. Amperometric measurements were done with different concentrations of glucose. The NCP glucose sensor has good anti-interference performance toward maltose, fructose, urea, and ascorbic acid. It has wide concentration ranges to glucose. It shows a detection limit of 0.023 mM (S/N = 3) with a wide linear range from 0.25 to 39.26 mM, which is comparable with commercial glucose test strip. Abstract:Pesticides have an unprecedented concern in food safety as bioaccumulation occurs in the human body and causes various side effects. The electrochemical sensor attracts researchers with quick response, higher accuracy, and ease of carry for on-site detection. Herein, we prepare the hard template-assisted synthesis of Iron-Cobalt Phosphide (FCP) Core-shell for the electrochemical detection of fenitrothion (FN). The core–shell morphology of FCP supports with the enhancement of intrinsic activity, such as excellent mass transfer toward the electrochemical detection of FN with the glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) analysis of FN using FCP/GCE tested with the range of 0.001 to 850 μM of FN, the superior catalytic activity of FCP/GCE achieves the limit of detection (LoD) and sensitivity of 38.1 nM and 1.122 μA μM −1 cm −2 respectively. Moreover, the FN analysis using FCP/GCE tested with the vegetable samples achieves excellent recovery results of FN with the grapes, tomato, corn, and cauliflower samples. The results of the repeatability, reproducibility, and storage stability test of FCP/GCE suggest the excellent practical feasibility of the FCP/GCE sensor.

Abstract:A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was modified with nitrogen-doped carbon materials (NC) and polyethyleneimine (PEI) composites to design an electrochemical sensor for detecting 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). The NC materials were prepared by a simple and economical method through the condensation and carbonization of formamide. The NC materials were dispersed in a polyethyleneimine (PEI) solution easily. Due to the excellent properties of NC and PEI as well as their synergistic effect, the electrochemical reduction of the 4-NP on the surface of the NC–PEI composite modified electrode was effectively enhanced. Under the optimized conditions, at 0.06–10 μM and 10–100 μM concentration ranges, the NC–PEI/GCE sensor shows a linear response to 4-NP, and the detection limit is 0.01 μM (the signal-to-noise ratio is three). The reliability of the sensor for the detection of 4-NP in environmental water samples was successfully evaluated. In addition, the sensor has many advantages, including simple preparation, fast response, high sensitivity and good repeatability. It may be helpful for potential applications in detecting other targets.

Abstract:A sensitive electrochemical sensor for the determination of carbendazim (CBZ) was developed with Ni-doping nanoporous carbon-graphene composite (G-Ni/C) as the electrode material. The combination of graphene and Ni-doping nanoporous carbon not only prevented the aggregation of graphene, but also improved electric conductivity and substantially enhanced the electro catalytic activity for CBZ sensing. The electrochemical characterization of G-Ni/C towards CBZ determination was conducted by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) . The sensor based on G-Ni/C/GCE exhibits good electroanalytical activity towards the electro-oxidation of CBZ at the potential of + 0.6 V vs Ag/AgCl. Some key factors including sample pH, scan rates, accumulation potential, and accumulation time were investigated. The method offered a wide linear range of 0.04 to 10.0 μM with a detection limit of 8.9 nM. The obtained sensor was successfully employed for the determination of CBZ in pond water and juice samples with RSD < 5.7% and recoveries in the range 91.3–111%.
Electrochemically Functionalized Graphene for Highly Sensitive Detection of Nitrofurazone.

Abstract:Graphene nanosheets (GS) were prepared by ultrasonic exfoliation of bulk graphite in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone with the assistance of sodium pyrophosphate. The obtained GS suspension was modified on a glassy carbon electrode (GS/GCE), and then functionalized at different voltages (e.g. 1.0, 1.4 and 1.6 V) for 2 min in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer. The electrochemically functionalized GS/GCE (i.e. EGS/GCE) possesses more oxygen-containing groups and a higher defect level. More importantly, the active response area, electron transfer ability and interface adsorption capacity of the EGS/GCE enhanced remarkably. The possible mechanism of the performance enhancement is discussed, and the sensing application of the EGS/GCE in the detection of nitrofurazone (NFZ) is investigated. Compared with the GS/GCE, the EGS/GCE is much more active for NFZ oxidation and greatly increases the detection sensitivity. As a result, a highly sensitive electrochemical detection method has been developed for NFZ, with a detection limit of 2.1 nM. The practical application of the EGS/GCE was tested in fish meat samples, showing good accuracy and feasibility.

Abstract:A novel nano-TiO2 polymer modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode was developed for the determination of an organophosphorous pesticide, fenitrothion (φ-NO2), in citrate buffer solution. The electrochemical behavior of fenitrothion was characterized by using cyclic voltammetry. An irreversible form, φ-NO2, was transformed into a reversible redox couple (φ-NHOH/φ-NO), and it can be used to determine trace fenitrothion by square wave voltammetry. The experimental parameters, such as film thickness, pH value, accumulation potential and time were optimized. Interestingly, a cyclic voltammetric scan was observed to be more effective than a constant potential for the accumulation of fenitrothion. A linear response over a fenitrothion concentration of 2.5 × 10−8 to 1.0 × 10−5 M was exhibited, with a detection limit of 1.0 × 10−8 M (S/N = 3). The high sensitivity and selectivity of this film electrode was demonstrated by its practical application to the determination of trace amounts of fenitrothion in lake water and apple samples.
Nickel/nitrogen-doped carbon nanocomposites: Synthesis and electrochemical sensor for determination of p-nitrophenol in local environment

Abstract:A novel electrochemical sensor was prepared using N-doped carbon mesoporous materials supported with nickel nanoparticles (Ni–NCs) for environmental p-nitrophenol (p-NP) detection in a specific geographical area. These as-prepared Ni–NCs were dispersed in polyethyleneimine (PEI) solution and modified onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for electrocatalytic reduction of p-NP. The Ni–NCs-PEI/GCE showed a high Faraday current at −0.302 V during p-NP reduction, because of the synergistic effect between Ni–NCs and PEI. Under ideal conditions, the Ni–NCs-PEI/GCE was used in the voltametric determination of p-NP, with high sensitivity. The linear ranges for p-NP are 0.06–10 μM and 10–100 μM with low detection limit (4.0 nM) and high sensitivity (1.465 μA μM−1 cm−2). In the presence of other phenolic compounds, this sensor showed good selectivity for p-NP detection. The Ni–NCs-PEI/GCE was also used to determine p-NP in environmental water samples of a specific geographical area, with recoveries ranging from 95.9% to 109.4%, and an RSD of less than 3.6%. Therefore, this novel Ni–NCs-PEI/GCE provides a good example for the design of other carbon-based nanocomposite materials, for electrochemical detection of trace p-NP in a specific geographical area.

Abstract:A novel room temperature ionic liquid (i.e., 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, OMIMPF6)-multiwall carbon nanotube (MWNT) gel-chitosan (Chi) composite modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was fabricated and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), infrared spectroscopy (IR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The OMIMPF6-MWNT gel-Chi composite showed good conductivity stability, and extraction effect due to the synergic action of OMIMPF6, MWNT, and Chi. Furthermore, it was found that the OMIMPF6-MWNT gel-Chi composite had strong electrocatalytic effect on the oxidation of nitrite and at the OMIMPF6-MWNT gel-Chi/GCE nitrite could produce a very sensitive anodic peak. Under optimized conditions, the peak current was linear to nitrite concentration from 2.0 x.10(-8) to 6.0 x 10(-5) M. The detection limit was 1.0 x 10(-8) M. The electrode also exhibited acceptable stability, repeatability and selectivity. It was used successfully for the determination of nitrite in soil, sewage and sausage samples.

Abstract:Heteroatom doped graphdiyne (GDY) has been demonstrated to be an effective strategy for achieving outstanding electrochemical properties, including improved electrocatalytic activity, tunable electronic properties and high electronic conductivity, by producing numerous heteroatomic defects as well as active sites. Extensive efforts have been devoted to the issue of single element doping of GDY. Introducing two or more kinds of heteroatoms into GDY materials may create a synergic effect between the co-dopants, thus generating superior electrochemical performance. Nevertheless, little research on multiple elements co-doped GDY, especially in the application of constructing electrochemical biosensor. Herein, nitrogen and fluoride co-doped GDY (N-F-GDY) has been synthesized and employed to combine with NiCo2O4-Co3O4 hollow multishelled nanocages to establish an ultrasensitive electrochemical biosensor for the assay of pesticide residue. The as-prepared electrochemical biosensor possesses a wide linear range of 0.448 pM-44.8 nM for monocrotophos detection and a low detection limit of 0.0166 fM (S/N = 3).

Abstract:Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have aroused much attention as candidate materials for constructing electrochemical sensors. However, their inherent low conductivities have limited their sensing applications. Here, a novel COF/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composite is prepared via a straightforward ultrasonic method, incorporating amino-functionalized CNTs (NH2-CNTs) into COF composed of 1, 3, 5-benzenetricarboxaldehyde and 1,4-diaminobenzene. The resulting COF/NH2-CNTs composite exhibits high specific surface area, improved conductivity, fast electron transfer capability due to the high porosity of COF, the introduction of NH2CNTs, and the conjugate interaction between CNTs and COF. The proposed COF/NH2-CNTs-based sensor offers an amplified current toward the electrochemical sensing of o-nitrophenol (o-NP). Notably, the sensor exhibits a wide linear detection range (0.1-100 and 100-1000 mu M), a high sensitivity (8.66 and 1.44 mu A/(mu M cm2)), and a very low detection limit (0.03 mu M). Moreover, it is successfully applicable in the quantitative analysis of o-NP in lake water samples with satisfactory recoveries (97.0-105.3 %). This work not only demonstrates the viability of COF-based sensors for the trace-level detection of nitrobenzene contaminants but also enriches the variety of COF-based sensing materials.

Abstract:In the work, a novel molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor was proposed for sensitive and rapid detection of nitrofurazone (NFZ). The sensor was modified with Cr2O3 derived from metal-organic framework (MOF), silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) and biomass carbon (BC) from walnut shells. Among them, Ag NPs are grown on the surface of Cr-MIL-101 to obtain Cr-MIL-101/Ag, and then calcined with BC to obtain a composite material BC/Cr2O3/Ag. This material improves the effective surface area and electron transfer capability of the electrode to increase current response. Adding molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) to the surface of composite materials can improve the specific recognition ability of modified electrodes for NFZ. MIP was prepared by precipitation polymerization using acrylamide (AM) and alpha-methacrylic acid (MAA) as bifunctional monomers and NFZ as the template. Under the most suitable experimental environment, the differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) current response of modified electrode (BC/Cr2O3/Ag/MIP/GCE) to NFZ showed a good linear relationship between 5 x 10(-9)-1 x 10(-5) M, and the detection limit was 3 x 10(-9) M. This sensor has high sensitivity, selectivity, reproducibility and stability. Moreover, BC/Cr2O3/Ag/MIP/GCE was applied for the detection of NFZ in real samples. BC/Cr2O3/Ag/MIP/GCE provides a reliable approach for determination of NFZ in biological fluids.
Facile synthesis of copper MOF/carbon nanofiber nanocomposite paper for electrochemical detection of toxic 4-nitrophenol

Abstract:In this study, we have developed a self-standing nanocomposite mat, which combined of copper (benzene 1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid) MOFs (Cu(BTC)MOFs) and carbon nanofibers (CNFs) and used as an enzyme-free electrochemical sensor for detection of 4-nitrophenol in phosphate buffer (pH = 7). The high specific surface area and variety of functional active adsorption sites of as-developed hybrid mat facilitated faster transport of analyte molecules across the electrode-electrolyte interface. The Cu(BTC)MOF@CNF-modified glassy carbon electrode (Cu(BTC)MOF@CNF/GCE) demonstrated improved electrocatalytic responses toward 4-nitrophenol. The as-developed electrode showed that an excellent sensitivity (2.3429 μA μM −1 cm −2 ) with good selectivity and outstanding cyclic stability. The hybrid sensor exhibited a widespread linear range from 5.0 to 400 μM along with a low detection limit of 87.12 nM, for 4-nitrophenol determination. The present sensor electrode showed anti-interference property and high selectivity with good storage stability up to 30 days. Lastly, the sensing performances of the Cu(BTC)MOF@CNF/GCE toward para-nitrophenol in real samples give the satisfactory results, which proved the practical applicability of the present hybrid material. Abstract:Monitoring fenitrothion (FNT) residues in food and the environment is crucial due to its high environmental toxicity. In this study, we developed a sensitive, reliable electrochemical method for detecting FNT by using screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) modified with porous graphene oxide (PGO) nanosheets. PGO surface properties have been meticulously characterized using advanced spectroscopic techniques. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry were used to test the electrochemical properties of the PGO-modified sensor. The PGO-modified sensor exhibited remarkable sensitivity, achieving a detection limit as low as 0.061 μM and a broad linear range of 0.02-250 μM. Enhanced performance is due to PGO's high surface area and excellent electrocatalytic properties, which greatly improved electron transfer. Square wave voltammetry was used to demonstrate the sensor's efficacy as a real-time, on-site monitoring tool for FNT residues in fruit and water. The outstanding performance of the PGO/SPCE sensor underscores its applicability in ensuring food safety and environmental protection.

Abstract:In this work, a highly selective and sensitive electrochemical sensor based on hierarchical porous MXene/amino carbon nanotubes (MXene/NH2-CNTs) composite and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was developed for fisetin detection. The porous MXene/NH2-CNTs films were fabricated by self-assembly of negatively charged Ti3C2Tx MXene flakes and positively charged NH2-CNTs. The utilization of conductive NH2-CNTs as interlayer spacers efficiently inhibited the aggregation of MXene flakes and formed a well-defined porous structure, as a result of increasing the effective surface area, an enhancement of the electrical conductivity and electrocatalytic activity was observed. This sensor takes advantages of molecularly imprinted technique and MXene/NH2-CNTs nanomaterials to achieve high selectivity and high sensitivity for the determination of fisetin. The factors that affect sensor response were studied and optimized. The as-prepared molecular imprinting sensor, under the optimized conditions, presented a good linear relationship with the fisetin concentration ranging from 0.003 mu mol L-1 to 20.0 mu mol L-1 with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.0 nmol L-1. Besides, with favorable stability and selectivity, this newly developed sensor was utilized for the detection of fisetin in actual samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract:Depositing composites of Ni-HHTP and MWCNTs on a glassy carbon electrode(GCE) have developed a sensitive and facile electrochemical sensor for nitrite detection. Ni-HHTP@MWCNTs composites were synthesized in situ using 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene (HHTP), nickel acetate tetrahydrate Ni(OAc)2·4H2O and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by hydrothermal method. The composite electrode was prepared by the coating method. The synergistic combination of Ni-HHTP and MWCNTs enables the electrode to possess fast electronic conductivity and generate sensitive electrochemical signals for sodium nitrite (NaNO2). The controlled variable approach determines the best test conditions for the analyte and obtains a susceptible response signal. The composite electrode has an extensive linear response range of 1-10000 μM to NaNO2, with a detection limit of 0.95 μM and sensitivity of 0.96 mA·mM−1·cm−2, which shows excellent reproducibility and stability performance. There were no interferences from the most common ions. The electrochemical analysis method towards nitrite detection in actual water samples with a recovery rate was 97.2% -103.7%, indicating this composite material's practical application potential. The mechanism of the specific electrochemical process on the modified electrode was also explored. This work preliminary explored new electrochemical sensors for high-precision nitrite detection and precise sensing in analysis tests.

Abstract:Herein, a highly sensitive electrochemical sensing platform for the detection of carbendazim (CBZ), a commonly used pesticide was developed based on flake-like neodymium molybdate wrapped with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Nd2Mo3O9/MWCNTs) composite. The Nd2Mo3O9/MWCNTs was prepared via a simple wet-chemical route, followed by a sonication process. In this composite system, flake-like Nd2Mo3O9 not only offers plentiful active sites, but also endows high specific surface area. Meanwhile, MWCNTs wrapping can effectively impede the aggregation tendency and enhance the structural stability of flake-like Nd2Mo3O9 as well as increase the conductivity of the composite. The Nd2Mo3O9/MWCNTs composites modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) as electrochemical sensor displayed outstanding electrocatalytic activity towards the electroxidation of CBZ. Under the optimal operating conditions, the peak current was linearly related to the concentration of CBZ varying from 0.05 nM to 9.0 mu M with a low detection limit of 0.016 nM. Furthermore, the proposed sensor was successfully used to detect CBZ in paddy water samples, and satisfactory recoveries were obtained.
