Environmental Factors Affecting the Severity of Alternaria Brown Spot of Citrus and Their Potential Use in Timing Fungicide Applications

Abstract:Alternaria brown spot affects many tangerines and their hybrids, causing lesions on leaves, twigs, and fruit resulting in reduced yield and fruit quality. Field studies were conducted in a severely affected Minneola tangelo grove in central Florida from 1996 to 1998 to determine the environmental factors associated with infection of field trees and potted trap plants. Conidial production peaked following large flushes of new leaves, which were heavily infected. Most infections occurred during the summer rainy season, but trap plants became infected nearly every week of the year. When plants were exposed for 1-week periods, linear regression analysis indicated that disease severity on trap plants was positively related to the amount of rainfall, duration of leaf wetness, and average daily temperatures, and negatively related to the number of conidia trapped. Similar relationships occurred with trap plants exposed for 24-h periods on 141 different dates, except that temperature was not a significant factor. Nevertheless, these factors individually or combined in stepwise multiple regressions explained only a low percentage of the variability in disease severity with both weekly and daily trap plant sampling. When daily environmental data were categorized as: (i) rain versus no rain, (ii) <10 h or >10 h leaf wetness duration, and (iii) average temperature <20°C, 20 to 28°C, and >28°C, relationships to disease severity on trap plants were clearer. Disease severity on days with rain was nearly double that of days without rain, but considerable infection occurred on days with >10 h leaf wetness duration and no rain. Infection was greatest on days with temperatures of 20 to 28°C and slightly less at lower or higher temperatures. A point system, called the ALTER-RATER, was designed whereby each day would be assigned a severity value according to the prevailing environmental conditions. A fungicide application would be made after a predetermined number of points had accumulated. Simulated spray programs based on accumulation of 50, 75, 100, and 150 points from historical weather data at several locations indicated that from 8 to 15, 6 to 8, 5 to 6, or 3 to 4 sprays, respectively, would be needed depending on year and location in Florida. Such a weather-based control system could reduce the number of fungicide applications and improve control of Alternaria brown spot of tangerine.

Abstract:An unknown has been breaking out and causing a great loss on Hongjv(Citrus reticulata Blanco,CV.Hongjv) since 2007 in Wanzhou,Zhongqing,China.The was characterized as the spot on affected tissues and named brown spot disease temporarily.The occurs around a growing season and the severe affected leaves and fruits drop quickly.To determine the causing agent,the infected leaves,fruits and shoots were collected from different orchards.Typical conidiospores and cultures of Alternaria and Colletotrichum were always observed and isolated from infected tissues.However,pathogenicity test showed that only the isolates of Alternaria were pathogenic to the leaves and fruits of tangerine(Ci.reticulata CV.Ponkan).Based on the study of morphology,cultural feature and partial sequence of an endopolygalacturonase gene(endoPG),the pathogenic Alternaria was identified as A.alternate(Fr.) Keissler.The clarification of pathogen would benefit to the study on epidemiology and control of this disease.
The Effect of Weather and Location of Fruit within the Tree on the Incidence and Severity of Citrus Black Spot on Fruit

Abstract:Abstract Citrus black spot (CBS) caused by the fungus Phyllosticta citricarpa occurs in tropical and sub-tropical citrus production regions and affects all varieties of citrus. In Florida, the disease cycle is unique, having only the asexual spore. This work examines incidence and severity of CBS (hard spot symptoms) on fruit in two citrus groves during 2013–2014, 2014–2015 (Grove III) and 2015–2016 (Grove II) citrus seasons. Disease incidence and severity on fruit were analyzed based on citrus season, side of tree evaluated, height within the canopy, tree health, and tree age. Results indicate an increase in CBS incidence in Grove III between 2013–2014 and 2014–2015 seasons, with more infected or symptomatic fruit on the road side of the canopy and a higher incidence above 2 meters. Tree health status affected incidence but not severity and tree age had a significant effect on severity of CBS in Grove II. Analysis of weather data conducive for infection, between 2010 and 2017, indicated an average of 172 days per year (range: 104–261 days) when the temperature (15–35 °C) and relative humidity (RH ≥ 90% for 8 consecutive hours) were conducive for infection of fruit and an average of 98 days per year (range: 72–123 days) when the fruit were susceptible to infection.

Abstract:Mild brown and black spot diseases symptoms were detected on citrus varieties, Valencia and Navel fruits during season 2018 in some citrus orchards at North Egypt. Collected diseased fruit samples revealed isolation of Alternaria alternata and Phyllosticta citricarpa (McAlpine) van der Aa. Some organic acids, salts and Saccharomyces cerevisiae were evaluated against the diseases incidents in vitro and in vivo. Complete growth inhibition was recorded for fungi tested at 2g/L of salicylic acid, Potassium dihydrogen phosphate, Tri-Sodium polyphosphate and 2.5 g/L of S. cerevisiae. All pre-harvest treated Valencia trees, inoculated fruits revealed no diseases symptoms up to 10 days of storage period. Meanwhile, S. cerevisiae and salicylic acid treatments had extended protective effect up to 20 days. Control strategy through spraying Valencia orange trees with yeast or some organic acids and salts as pre-harvest approaches should be taken in consideration especially these diseases began to occur in North region of Egypt.

Genomic and Transcriptomic Characterization of <i>Alternaria alternata</i> during Infection

Abstract:Host-pathogen interactions are the result of the continuously evolving dynamics of the genomic interphases between pathogens and the host plants. Alternaria brown spot (ABS) caused by the pathogen Alternaria alternata is a serious threat to tangerine production. Although recent studies have made significant advances in the characterization of A. alternata virulence factors, a gap exists in the regulation of virulent genes throughout the course of A. alternata infection on host plants. To gain a better understanding of the dynamic defense transcriptome in Alternaria alternata during Infection, we performed a comparative transcriptome approach. After inoculation on citrus, we found that 2142, 1964, 2359 genes were up-regulated, and 1948, 1434, 1996 genes were down-regulated at 12 hours-post-inoculation (hpi), 24 hpi and 48 hpi, respectively. Among these genes, 1333 genes were up-regulated at three time points, and 1054 genes were down-regulated, indicating that most of the differentially expressed genes at the early stage of infection tended to remain differentially expressed at the later stage of infection. In addition to the genes that are known to be part of the infection network in plant-pathogen interactions, many novel genes related to plant-pathogen interaction were identified. Interestingly, our results indicate that A. alternata is able to rapidly alter its gene expression pattern during infection process, which is vital for the successful colonization of the pathogen. Moreover, this rapid alteration of gene expression is likely to be an adaptive mechanism, enabling the pathogen to quickly respond to any changes in the environment and adapt to the host's defense system. This ability to modify gene expression quickly in the face of environmental changes could play a critical role in the successful establishment of infection. RT-qPCR analysis confirmed that the expression pattern of nine randomly selected genes from the peroxisome pathway were consistent with the RNA-seq data. Our study provided a comprehensive study of the expression of genes during A. alternata infection of citrus, which may facilitate the understanding of host-plant interactions in A. alternata.
First report of the new Neopestalotiopsis species causing strawberry leaf spot and fruit rot in Georgia

Abstract:In April 2023, symptomatic strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) plants (cv. 'Camarosa' and 'Florida Brilliance') were observed at a commercial farm in Worth County, GA (USA). Symptoms included foliar, irregularly distributed, and different-sized spots (dark brown with light brown centers) and dark brown V-shaped necrotic areas starting at the leaf edge. By the time of sample collection, ~50% incidence was reported in the field. Leaf samples were collected and shipped overnight to the laboratory. Black acervuli were observed readily on old necrotic foliar lesions. Conidial morphology was consistent with that observed with Neopestalotiopsis species (Maharachchikumbura et al. 2014). Conidia were ellipsoid to fusiform, five-celled, with three light brown median cells and one hyaline apical and basal cell. Apical cells had two-to-four flexuous appendages, and the basal cell had one non-flexuous appendage (Fig 1). The average (n = 20) conidia length, not including the appendages, was 26.6 µm (SD: 2.8), and width was 6.3 µm (SD: 0.94). Fungal isolation was conducted on acidified PDA and incubated at 25°C for 6 days. Dense, white mycelia were observed on the upper plate surface, while a pale pink/orange coloration was observed on the underside (Fig 1). Black acervuli formed on the surface of the white mycelial mat. Six isolates were purified and selected to confirm the species identity. DNA was extracted from 6-day-old cultures and PCR was conducted following Kaur et al. (2023). Amplified DNA was digested with the restriction enzyme BsaWI and two bands were clearly visualized (~130 and ~290 bp), along with a faint band of 20-bp (Fig 2). Four of the six isolates were selected for sequencing of the β-tubulin gene. BLAST queries using the consensus sequence showed that all isolates had 100% identity to strain N21002 from Florida (FL), characterized as Neopestalotiopsis sp. (Kaur et al. 2023). One representative isolate (AJ07-2023) was deposited in GenBank (accession No. PP316103). Pathogenicity tests were performed on 27-day-old transplants of Sensation 'Florida127' provided by Natalia Peres from the UF. Plants were grown in 10.5 cm pots in the greenhouse. Isolate AJ07-2023 was grown on PDA for 30 days at 25°C, and the spore suspension was adjusted at 106 spore/ml. Five strawberry plants were sprayed with 5 ml of inoculum using a Preval sprayer with a CO2 canister, and 5 plants were sprayed with sterile distilled water. Plants were placed in a growth chamber for 6 days and covered with plastic bags after the sixth day to maintain ~85% relative humidity and 25°C. Foliar symptoms, including dark-brown circular lesions occurring towards the edge of leaves with light-brown center and light-yellow halo, developed 13 days after inoculation. No symptoms were observed on control plants. Neopestalotiopsis sp. was reisolated from inoculated plants as described above. Colony, conidial morphology, and PCR results were consistent with the original isolates. Neopestalotiopsis disease has been reported on strawberry in FL (Baggio et al. 2021), OH (Rotondo et al. 2022) and IN (Guan et al. 2023). Although the disease has been observed sporadically in GA since 2020 (Brannen, personal communication), to our knowledge, this is the first official report of the new Neopestalotiopsis sp. in GA. It has been reported that this new strain is more aggressive on fruits and leaves than other Neopestalotiopsis spp. (Baggio et al. 2021), therefore, accurate identification is critical for proper management.
Identification of a novel phylogenetic lineage of Alternaria alternata causing citrus brown spot in China.

Abstract:Alternaria alternata sensu lato, casual agent of citrus brown spot, first identified in Yunnan province in 2010 and subsequently found in Zhejiang, Hunan, Guangdong provinces, Chongqing municipality andGuangxi autonomous region in China. During 2010–2012, 86 isolates were collected from diseased citrus, of which 85 % isolates were pathogenic to Ponkan tangerine. Phylogenetic analyses of Chinese and worldwide isolates using partial sequences of an endopolygalacturonase gene (endoPG) and combined dataset ofendoPG and two anonymous loci (OPA1-3, OPA2-1) found that Chinese isolates fell into two of three previously described clades. One clade (‘clade 3’) contained isolates from Turkey and Israel, and the other clade (‘clade 1’) contained isolates from Florida, USA. None of the isolates from China fell into the last previously described clade (‘clade 2’). However, 24 isolates from Hunan, Guangdong and Guangxi fell into a fourth clade (‘clade 4’) not previously reported to be associated with citrus brown spot. This clade included multilocus haplotypes known to infect Japanese pear and strawberry. The observation that Chinese brown spot isolates fell into only two of three known worldwide lineages suggests that this fungus may not have co-evolved with its host in China but elsewhere in Southeast Asia and introduced to China.
Field Identification and Management of Greasy Spot Disease

Abstract:Greasy spot is a disease that's frequently found in tropical and semitropical regions where citrus cultivars are grown. The disease is caused by Mycosphaerella citri. Symptoms appear as yellow to dark brown to black lesions occurring first on the underside of mature citrus leaves (Fig. 1). As the lesions develop on the underside of the leaves, they become darker and a corresponding chlorotic spot will appear on the upper leaf surface. These yellow (chlorotic) spots occur when infected cells fail to develop chlorophyll. Lesions are more yellowish and diffuse on lemons and grapefruit and more raised and darker on tangerines. Affected leaves fall prematurely from the tree during the fall and winter resulting in reduced tree vigor and yield. Greasy spot also infects the fruit of grapefruit trees producing rind blotch. Anthracnose on Cucurbits in Florida

Abstract:Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus), cantaloupe or muskmelon (Cucumis melo), squash (Cucurbita pepo), bitter gourd (Momordica charantia), and cucumber (Cucumis sativa) are commonly grown throughout Florida on both commercial farms and home gardens, while pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) production is largely limited to north Florida. Anthracnose on cucurbits, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum orbiculare, is a common disease that occurs worldwide and throughout Florida. While all cucurbits are susceptible to the disease, cucumber, cantaloupe, and watermelon are most frequently affected. This EDIS document provides information regarding the pathogen, disease cycle, diagnostics and symptoms, and an overview of management of this disease on cucucurbits.

Abstract:Brown spot of citrus caused by Alternaria citri is one of the emerging threats to the successful production of citrus crops. The present study, conducted with a substantial sample size of 50 leaf samples for statistical reliability, aimed to determine the change in mineral content in citrus leaves after brown spot disease attack. Leaf samples from a diverse range of susceptible citrus varieties (Valentia late, Washington navel, and Kinnow) and resistant varieties (Citron, Eruka lemon, and Mayer lemon) were analyzed. Significant variations (p ≤ 0.05) in mineral contents were observed across reaction groups (inoculated and un-inoculated), types (resistant and susceptible), and varieties of citrus in response to infection of Alternaria citri . The analysis of variance showed significant changes in mineral levels of citrus leaves, including nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn), sodium (Na), iron (Fe), and copper (Cu). The results indicate that the concentration of N and P differed by 6.63% and 1.44%, respectively, in resistant plants, while susceptible plants showed a difference of 6.07% and 1.19%. Moreover, resistant plants showed a higher concentrations of K, Ca, Mg, Zn, Na, Fe, and Cu at 8.40, 2.1, 1.83, 2.21, 1.58, 2.89, and 0.36 ppm respectively, compared to susceptible plants which showed concentrations of 5.99, 1.93, 1.47, 1.09, 1.24, 1.81, and 0.31 ppm respectively. Amounts of mineral contents were reduced in both resistant as well as susceptible plants of citrus after inoculation. Amount of N (8.56), P (1.87) % while K (10.74), Ca (2.71), Mg (2.62), Zn (2.20), Na (2.08), Fe (3.57) and Cu (0.20) ppm were recorded in un-inoculated group of citrus plants that reduced to 3.15 and 0.76% and 3.66, 1.40, 0.63,0.42, 0.74, 1.13 and 0.13 ppm in inoculated group respectively. It was accomplished that susceptible varieties contained lower ionic contents than resistant varieties. The higher concentrations of ionic contents in resistant citrus varieties build up the biochemical and physiological processes of the citrus plant, which help to restrict spread of pathogens. Further research could explore the interplay between mineral nutrition and disease resistance in citrus, potentially leading to the development of new disease-resistant varieties.

Two important pathogenic fungi in citrus production

Abstract:Citrus industry is the second largest fruit industries,and is one of the core industries of agriculture in China.In this paper,we introduce two citrus fungal diseases,sweet orange scab (Elsino(e) australis) and septoria spot (Septoria citri),which might have not yet occurred in China,but have a high potential risk of invasion from aboard.We provide detailed information about their perniciousness,geographical distribution,symptom,host range,characteristic of pathogen,disease cycle and epidemiology.Their invasion risk through citrus propagation materials and citrus fruit trade were analyzed.This article attempts to deepen the relevant departments' and people's understanding of these two citrus fungal diseases.
Climate zoning: identifying suitable regions for the occurrence of Alternaria Brown spot in tangerine trees in Brazil

Abstract:Background: Brazilian citrus farming has been migrating to nontraditional citrus-growing regions, which can be considered a challenge for citrus growers, as not all these areas are suitable for tangerine cultivation. Thus, the mapping of regions exhibiting favorable climatic conditions for Alternaria brown spot has become crucial in the selection of appropriate locations for the establishment of new orchards. This mapping enables the implementation of an avoidance strategy, which entails steering clear of areas where the disease is prevalent, aligning with fundamental principles of disease control. Results: Thus, this study seeks to zone areas with high and low climatic favorability for the occurrence of Alternaria brown spot in tangerine trees in Brazil. Historical climate data series from the NASA-POWER database were used for all municipalities in Brazil. Agrometeorological variables used to determine the development of Alternaria brown spot were average monthly air temperature (Tmean) and duration of leaf wetness period (LWD). Areas were considered unsuitable climatically when Tmean was <17 °C or >33 °C, relatively suitable when Tmean was between 13 °C and 33 °C and LWD <10%, and climatically suitable when Tmean was between 13 °C and 33 °C and LWD >10%. The states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul showed greater thermal amplitude within months and throughout the year. The southern region of the country has harsher winters, with minimum temperatures below 15 °C, which is unfavorable for the disease incidence. Conclusion: The states with the greatest favorability for Alternaria brown spot were Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul, mainly from May to September. Rio Grande do Sul was the state in this region that showed the greatest favorability, as a consequence of leaf wetness exceeding 10 h. The main tangerine-producing regions in Brazil, including the southern part of Minas Gerais, the state of São Paulo and the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, were mostly classified as relatively favorable areas for the occurrence of Alternaria brown spot. It is recommended that when establishing new tangerine orchards, regions with lower favorability for the occurrence of Alternaria brown spot, such as the North and Central-West regions of Brazil, particularly the states of Amazonas, Pará and Mato Grosso, should be selected. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.
Assessing Copper-Alternative Products for the Control of Pre- and Postharvest Citrus Anthracnose

Abstract:Citrus production is worldwide threatened by Colletotrichum spp., causal agents of pre- and postharvest anthracnose. The recent limitation on the use of copper-based antimicrobials, due to its demonstrated noxious effect on the environment, makes the control of this pathogen difficult. Thus, alternative products able to reduce/phase out copper in organic citrus farming are needed. In this study, the efficacy of 11 commercial alternative products were evaluated in vitro, in growth chamber, in open field and in postharvest environments. In vitro, mineral fertilizers, basic substances, essential oils, plant defense stimulators and biological control agents were able to inhibit the mycelial growth with variable efficacy. On artificially infected citrus fruit, almost all tested products significantly reduced disease incidence and severity, but with lower efficacy than copper. The efficacy of mineral fertilizers-based Kiram and Vitibiosap 458 Plus, citrus essential oil-based Prev-Am Plus and chitosan-based Biorend was confirmed in open field trials, in naturally infected citrus fruits. In these trials Biorend was the best alternative product, significantly reducing disease incidence (71% DI reduction) with better results than copper (47.5%). Field treatments reduced the incidence and severity of the disease in postharvest conditions, especially in fruits field-treated three times. Overall, selected products tested in open field can represent a good alternative to copper compounds in the view of future limitation of its use.

Abstract:Aureobasidin A (AbA), an antifungal cyclic depsipeptide antibiotic produced by Aureobasidium pullulans R 106, has previously been shown to be effective against a wide range of fungi and protozoa. Here we report the inhibitory effects of AbA on spore germination, germ tuber elongation and hyphal growth of five pathogenic fungi including Penicillium digitatum, P. italicum, P. expansum, Botrytis cinerea and Monilinia fructicola, which are major pathogens causing postharvest diseases of a variety of fruits. AbA inhibited five pathogenic fungi by reducing conidial germination rates, delaying conidial germination initiation, restricting elongation of germ tuber and mycelium, as well as inducing abnormal alternations of morphology of genii tubes and hyphae of these fungi. The sensitivity of these fungi to AbA was pathogen species-dependent. P digitatum was the most sensitive and M.fructicola the least. Importantly, AbA at 50 mu g/ml was effective in controlling the citrus green mold and in reducing the strawberry gray mold incidence and severity, caused by P. digitatum and B. cinerea, respectively, after artificial inoculation. 2014/15 Picking, Roadsiding, and Hauling Charges for Florida Citrus

Abstract:As Florida’s citrus industry confronts the impacts of Huanglongbing (HLB or citrus greening)–decreasing crop yields and production, lower quality fruit, and increasing cost of production–many growers are facing declining returns. A 2015 survey of twelve Florida citrus harvesters to collect data on harvesting charges during the 2014/15 season revealed that average picking and roadsiding charges for fresh fruit are in most cases lower than those for processed fruit, likely because of the impact of HLB. This 3-page fact sheet presents the results of the survey and provides a table summarizing the harvesting charges for citrus during the 2014/15 season with the average and the range of picking and roadsiding charges by variety and type of fruit (fresh versus processed), as well as the average hauling charges for all varieties by distance. The fact sheet will assist growers in the effort to compute the changes to their economic returns as the industry adapts to remain profitable. Winter pruning: option for management against alternaria brown spot (Alteraria alternata f. sp. citri) in Honey Murcott tangor [Citrus reticulata Blanco x C. sinensis (L.) Osbeck]

Abstract:Alternaria brown spot (ABS), caused by Alternaria alternata f. sp. citri, is the main fungal disease plaguing tangerines. The main symptoms are falling leaf and fruit, resulting in the loss of production and quality. The initial symptoms in leaves are characterized by small brown or black spots, surrounded, or not, by yellowish halos. In the fruit, dark cortical patches appear that can easily break. In this study, the winter pruning of the plants was investigated to complementary control of ABS. The experiment was conducted in 10-year-old Honey Murcott tangor plants, where two treatments were applied: pruning in winter and no pruning, using a randomized block design with ten replicates. The treatment of winter pruning was performed before the flowering of the plants (September in Brazil), where the branches were cut close to the trunk, the thicker branches were removed. The chemical control was performed in both treatments. Evaluations of disease severity in fruit were performed using a diagrammatic scale; the disease incidence and area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) were also calculated. The fruit drop and yield (t ha-1) of the plants were quantified, and the temperature and humidity inside the canopy of the plants were measured. Winter pruning had a positive effect on ABS management since it provided a decrease in incidence, severity, and AUDPC values. Fruit fall was reduced, resulting in greater productivity for Honey Murcott tangor plants. The results confirmed the positive effect of winter pruning on the management of alternaria brown spot.

Abstract:Anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD, aka biological soil disinfestation) has been studied in multiple countries for the suppression of plant pathogenic fungi and bacteria. Recent work in the US has included studies on weed control and nematode management with this technique. Multiple mechanisms have been shown to play a role in the suppression of some studied plant pathogens, including the generation of organic acids by soil bacteria. Multiple field trials were conducted in the strawberry production region in Florida to compare this method with direct application of a novel combination of organic acids (referred to as 'SPK') applied through drip irrigation. Application of the organic acids consistently resulted in an increase in the native soil population of Trichoderma spp. The first year of ASD treatment resulted in a low level of cumulative redox potential and an increase in Trichoderma spp. However, in the second year, when there was a higher level of cumulative redox potential, an increase in culturable soil bacteria overwhelmed Trichoderma spp. colony isolation. Viability of introduced fungal plant pathogen inoculum was reduced in organic acid treatments when the water front carrying the acid came in direct contact with packets at the center of the bed, but not in areas with poor material movement. Introduced inoculum in the ASD-treated plots was significantly reduced compared to the untreated control regardless of packet placement.
Chromosome-Scale Genome Sequence of Alternaria alternata Causing Alternaria Brown Spot of Citrus

Abstract:Alternaria brown spot (ABS), caused by Alternaria alternata, is an economically important fungal disease of citrus worldwide. The ABS pathogen A. alternata tangerine pathotype can produce a host-specific ACT toxin, which is regulated by ACT toxin gene cluster located in the conditionally dispensable chromosome (CDC). Previously, we have assembled a draft genome of A. alternata tangerine pathotype strain Z7, which comprises 165 contigs. In this study, we report a chromosome-level genome assembly of A. alternata Z7 through the combination of Oxford Nanopore sequencing and Illumina sequencing technologies. The assembly of A. alternata Z7 had a total size of 34.28 Mb, with a GC content of 51.01% and contig N50 of 3.08 Mb. The genome is encompassed 12,067 protein-coding genes, 34 ribosomal RNAs, and 107 transfer RNAs. Interestingly, A. alternata Z7 is composed of 10 essential chromosomes and 2 CDCs, which is consistent with the experimental evidences of pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. To our best knowledge, this is the first chromosome-level genome assembly of A. alternata. In addition, a database for citrus-related Alternaria genomes has been established to provide public resources for the sequences, annotation and comparative genomics data of Alternaria spp. The improved genome sequence and annotation at the chromosome level is a significant step toward a better understanding of the pathogenicity of A. alternata. The database will be updated regularly whenever the genomes of newly isolated Alternaria spp. are available.
