Abstract:Indonesia is a country where social movements are rife, especially since the reform era in 1998 until now, supported by the rapid growth of new social media, such as the internet. Through social media, it encourages human freedom to express opinions regarding various matters, as well as being a driving force for the growth and development of social movements. Social movements arise because the situation in society is experiencing injustice, and there is an arbitrary attitude that is accepted by society. This type of research is qualitative research, analyzed with a sociological perspective, using a review of the theory of relative deprivation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the transformation of social movements. The results of the study prove that social movement transformation occurs due to social conditions that are not harmonious. Social media is used as a tool in social movements carried out by students. Previously, social movements were carried out in certain public spaces, now they are shifting to a digital basis. The results of the study show that social media has an important role in the process of developing student social movements in Indonesia. Social movements carried out through social media can mobilize larger masses, arousing netizens' angry attitudes. Social media can provoke a growing issue to heat up, as well as build a public opinion. Besides that, social media also plays a role as a process of finding solutions together and forming an identity. Keywords: Digital Space, Transformation, Social Action Movement. Abstrak Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara yang marak terjadinya gerakan sosial, terlebih sejak era reformasi tahun 1998 hingga sekarang, didukung pesatnya media sosial baru, seperti internet. Melalui media sosial mendorong kebebasan manusia untuk menyampaikan opini terkait berbagai hal, sekaligus menjadi suatu pendorong tumbuh dan berkembangnya gerakan sosial. Gerakan sosial muncul karena situasi yang ada di masyarakat mengalami ketidakadilan, dan adanya sikap sewenang-wenang yang diterima masyarakat. Jenis riset ini adalah penelitian kualitatif, dianalisis dengan perspektif sosiologi, menggunakan tinjauan teori deprivasi relatif. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis terjadinya transformasi gerakan sosial. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa terjadinya transformasi gerakan sosial karena kondisi sosial yang tidak harmonis. Media sosial dijadikan sebagai sebuah sarana dalam gerakan sosial yang dilakukan mahasiswa. Semula gerakan sosial dilakukan di ruang publik tertentu, sekarang beralih berbasis digital. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, media sosial mempunyai peran penting dalam proses perkembangan gerakan sosial mahasiswa yang ada di Indonesia. Gerakan sosial yang dilakukan melalui media sosial bisa memobilisasi massa lebih besar, membangkitkan sikap marah warganet. Media sosial dapat memancing memanasnya suatu isu yang berkembang, sekaligus membangun sebuah opini publik. Disamping itu, media sosial juga berperan sebagai proses pencarian solusi bersama dan pembentukan sebuah identitas. Kata Kunci: Ruang Digital, Transformasi, Gerakan Aksi Sosial.
