Abstract:This article examines the cult of beauty as a fundamental principle of Japanese culture. Japanese culture processed cultural phenomena borrowed from other cultures in accordance with its perception of the world. It is shown how the principle of "mono-no aware", the "sad charm of things", associated with the artistic and aesthetic way of comprehending the world, comes to the fore in Japanese culture. Experiencing the beauty of the world as a fundamental principle of mastering the world through aesthetics to a certain extent replaces Confucian metaphysics and ethics in Japanese culture.
