Abstract:Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) are considered a new and important material in today's construction world. ECC materials have been used due to excellent mechanical properties (compressive strength in the range of 35–100 MPa and normal tensile strength in the range of 2–7 MPa) for structural design, repairs and retrofitting. The present study investigates the compressive strength, direct tensile testing, and impact strength of Engineered cementitious composite (ECC) containing fibers. In this regard, 5 mixing schemes, which include the replacement of PVA fibers by 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2%, were evaluated. Cylindrical specimens 7 and 28 days old were tested to evaluate the respective compressive strengths. To evaluate the impact strength of concrete, (8) concrete discs were cut from a cylindrical sample with dimensions of 150 × 300 mm for each mixture. The results demonstrate that the presence of PVA fibers by 2% increased the maximum compressive strength of 7 and 28 days of concrete by 17 and 56%, respectively. The presence of PVA fibers also increases the impact resistance of the first crack. The failure strength of fiber-containing mixtures also shows an improvement of 35 to 90 percent compared to fiber-free mixtures.
