Abstract:Dermal papilla cells control the growth and cycle of hair, and cell proliferation can be reduced by ultraviolet rays, temperature changes, hormones, and oxidative stress, which is directly related to the cause of hair loss. In this study, to evaluate the protective effect and cell proliferation efficacy of dermal papilla cells of spirulina extract, quantitative analysis of phycocyanin and cell proliferation experiments were performed to evaluate the cytotoxicity of the extract, cytotoxicity from UVA, and wound healing. As a result of UPLC component analysis, phycocyanin was found to be 26.66 μg/ml when extracted using water as a solvent. As a result of MTT assay on dermal papilla cells, cell viability decreased in a concentration-dependent manner when treated with concentrations of 0.05, 0.10, and 0.50 mg/ml. ROS was reduced after spirulina treatment in dermal papilla cells induced by UVA. In addition, as a result of evaluating the cell proliferation ability after inducing a wound to the dermal papilla cells, it was confirmed that the cell proliferation area of the dermal papilla cells increased 24 hours after spirulina extract treatment. These results indicate that spirulina extract exhibits a cell-boosting effect as an antioxidant on dermal papilla cells and activates cell proliferation, and is expected to be utilized in various products for scalp protection and hair loss reversal.
