Abstract:The use of Generative Pretrained Transformer (ChatGPT), an artificial intelligence tool, for writing scientific articles has been reason for discussion by the academic community ever since its launch in late 2022. This artificial intelligence technology is becoming capable of generating fluent language, and distinguishing between text produced by ChatGPT and that written by people is becoming increasingly difficult. Here, we will present some topics to be discussed: (1) ensuring human verification; (2) establishing accountability rules; (3) avoiding the automatization of scientific production; (4) favoring truly open-source large language models (LLMs); (5) embracing the benefits of artificial intelligence; and (6) broadening the debate. With the emergence of these technologies, it is crucial to regulate, with continuous updates, the development and responsible use of LLMs with integrity, transparency, and honesty in research, along with scientists from various areas of knowledge, technology companies, large research funding bodies, science academies and universities, editors, non-governmental organizations, and law experts.
Et Machina: Exploring the Use of Conversational Agents Such as ChatGPT in Scientific Writing

Abstract:Background: Advancements in natural language processing have led to the development of powerful language models like ChatGPT, capable of generating coherent text with minimal human input. While the potential for using ChatGPT in scientific paper writing is of growing interest, its full potential and usefulness remain unexplored. Method: We investigated the use of ChatGPT to write scientific papers on the topic of conversational agents in scientific writing. ChatGPT served as a tool to facilitate scientific writing, and we evaluated the quality, factuality, and coherence of the generated text. In this paper, we include information about the generation, processing, or adjustments made to the text in differently-colored blocks. ∗ Position: We argue that large-scale trained conversational agents like ChatGPT can generate concise, grammatically correct, and well-structured text. However, occasional errors in factual accuracy, clarity, and scientific rigor were observed. We acknowledge the potential of ChatGPT and similar models as tools for generating initial drafts of scientific work. Conclusion: ChatGPT demonstrates promise as a scientific writing tool, but unsupervised use in this context is not yet recommended. Further research is necessary to enhance the accuracy and scientific validity of the generated text. Researchers should exercise caution and view ChatGPT as a complement to human writing rather than a replacement. We provide key recommendations for using conversational agents in scientific writing, including human oversight and training the model on scientific literature and unbiased data. By utilizing AI in the authorship process, we present an example of how AI involvement can be reported.

Abstract:ChatGPT is a state-of-the-art language model developed by OpenAI. It is part of the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) series, which are designed to generate human-like language output based on large amounts of input data. ChatGPT is one of the largest and most advanced language models to date, with 175 billion parameters. The article aims to examine the impact of artificial intelligence tools and techniques on academic research and their potential implications for academic ethics. In particular, this article will focus on the practices of ChatGPT in generating scientific research within the context of academic ethics. ChatGPT is a powerful tool that can generate text in different formats, conduct literature searches, and suggest titles for the created text. However, using ChatGPT to select topics with a low similarity score in similarity checkers may lead to ethical violations. This article finds that the use of artificial intelligence applications in academic research may raise concerns about academic ethics, and the limited availability of technologies that can detect such violations poses a significant challenge to academic writing.

Abstract:This paper discusses OpenAIs ChatGPT, a generative pre-trained transformer, which uses natural language processing to fulfill text-based user requests (i.e., a chatbot). The history and principles behind ChatGPT and similar models are discussed. This technology is then discussed in relation to its potential impact on academia and scholarly research and publishing. ChatGPT is seen as a potential model for the automated preparation of essays and other types of scholarly manuscripts. Potential ethical issues that could arise with the emergence of large language models like GPT-3, the underlying technology behind ChatGPT, and its usage by academics and researchers, are discussed and situated within the context of broader advancements in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing for research and scholarly publishing.

Abstract:Introduction: the JLE editors analyse the scope and depth of the subject area of ChatGPT and related topics based on the Scopus database. The Scopus statistics prove a skyrocketing rise in the number of publications in the field in question during 2023. The major alarming themes cover authorship and integrity related to AI-assisted writing, threats to educational practices, medicine, and malevolent uses of ChatGPT. Keywords Explained: the key terminology is defined, including generative pre-trained transformers (GPT); ChatGPT; artificial intelligence (AI); AI chatbots; natural language processing (NLP); large language models; Open AI; large language model (LLM). International Research on ChatGPT: as of September 24 2023, the Scopus database has indexed 1,935 publications, with “ChatGPT” in the title, abstract, or keywords. A skyrocketing rise in the number of research has been reported since the early days of 2023. 1,925 indexed publications out of 1,935 were published in 2023. Most of them came from the USA, India, the UK, and China. The number of documents indexed in the Scopus database as well as PubMed, arXiv and others are exponentially rising. ChatGPT in Education: the academic community has been actively discussing the challenges education will face in the era of ChatGPT in the context of the fundamental threats posed to the educational system. The latter include assessment procedures, information accuracy, and skill devaluation. As many complex technologies, generative pre-trained transformers are ambivalent in nature, providing a great potential for learning and education at large, including new approaches based on critical thinking and awareness of the pros and cons of AI. ChatGPT in Science: great prospects for text generation and improvements in language quality adjoin to dubious authorship and potentially inconsistent and erroneous parts in the AI-produced texts. Publishers and journals are working out new publishing policies, including publishing ethics towards AI-assisted or AI-improved submissions. Conclusion: JLE is planning to revise its editorial policy to address the new challenges from AI technologies. JLE editors welcome new submissions of research articles and reviews as well as special issues on ChatGPT and related themes, with potential applications of chatbots in education, innovative approaches to writing assignments, facilitating personalized learning, academic integrity issues related to AI-supported writing, etc. in focus.

Abstract:The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical research is on the rise. This article explores the role of using ChatGPT, a language model developed by OpenAI, in writing medical scientific articles. The material and methods used included a comparative analysis of medical scientific articles produced with and without the use of ChatGPT. The results suggest that the use of ChatGPT can be a useful tool for scientists to increase the production of higher quality medical scientific articles, but it is important to note that AI cannot fully replace human authors. In conclusion, scientists should consider ChatGPT as an additional tool to produce higher quality medical scientific articles more quickly.

Abstract:ChatGPT is an AI-based text generating tool which was released at the end of 2022. The tool is significantly better than previous AIs at generating written outputs which appear to have been written by a human including academic research articles. Within academic research there has been considerable interest in whether the tool can be used to write scholarly content, and what the consequences of this would be. Despite the increased quality of output ChatGPT still suffers from many of the flaws which plague other AI tools such as bias, inaccurate training materials and its use leads to concerns around plagiarism and research integrity. This article centres the viewpoint of an academic librarian to discuss ChatGPT in the context of other technologies which have been disruptive. An argument is made that the tool is simply one in a series of transformational developments in scholarly communications, which have all been, eventually, successfully assimilated. Abstract:The purpose of this study is to examine the place of ChatGPT writing in the current academic environment. Significant attention has been drawn to the amazing capacity of ChatGPT, a sophisticated language model created by OpenAI, to produce text answers that nearly mimic human speech. The current study examines ChatGPT's effects on a number of academic areas, including writing support, data analysis, literature reviews, and scientific cooperation. The paper looks at the benefits and drawbacks of using ChatGPT in academic research and offers some insight into prospective uses for this technology in the future. To efficiently respond to the research questions and accomplish the stated goals, the present study used a quick review of the literature technique. The study has discovered several ChatGPT uses in academic writing, including data gathering, teamwork, implications, and restrictions. The study also looked at how to prevent plagiarism in written work produced using ChatGPT. Abstract:The emergence of artificial intelligence language services has raised hopes related to facilitating the task of publication activity. Members of the academic community wondered whether chatbots could optimize the process of scientific writing. ChatGPT, a language model capable of, among other things, generating scholarly texts, received particular attention. The cases of writing academic papers using ChatGPT have led to a number of publications analyzing the pros and cons of using this neural network. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of using ChatGPT to write an introduction to a scientific paper on a topical issue of the Arctic governance. A set of queries to ChatGPT network, based on the logic of the commonly accepted in academia publication format IMRAD, has being developed. This format is characterized by structural and functional elements, which served as a logical basis for the queries. The responses received from ChatGPT were analyzed for their compliance with the requirements for a scientific article, according to the IMRAD publication format. The result of the analysis showed that ChatGPT is not able to meet the requirements for publishing a scientific article in the modern scientific publication discourse.

Abstract:Introduction: The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has presented several opportunities to ease human work. AI applications are available for almost every domain of life. A new technology, Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT), was introduced by OpenAI in November 2022, and has become a topic of discussion across the world. ChatGPT-3 has brought many opportunities, as well as ethical and privacy considerations. ChatGPT is a large language model (LLM) which has been trained on the events that happened until 2021. The use of AI and its assisted technologies in scientific writing is against research and publication ethics. Therefore, policies and guidelines need to be developed over the use of such tools in scientific writing. The main objective of the present study was to highlight the use of AI and AI assisted technologies such as the ChatGPT and other chatbots in the scientific writing and in the research domain resulting in bias, spread of inaccurate information and plagiarism. Methodology: Experiments were designed to test the accuracy of ChatGPT when used in research and academic writing. Results: The information provided by ChatGPT was inaccurate and may have far-reaching implications in the field of medical science and engineering. Critical thinking should be encouraged among researchers to raise awareness about the associated privacy and ethical risks. Conclusions: Regulations for ethical and privacy concerns related to the use of ChatGPT in academics and research need to be developed.

Abstract:ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence large language model, took the world by storm in November 2022. Its launch was met with excitement, and it garnered over 1 million users within the first five days of its release, surpassing social media giants like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and even the top search engine, Google. Having been trained on volumes of data, ChatGPT has displayed the ability to produce human-like responses to questions. Concerns have been raised among members of the academic and research community regarding the ethical usage of ChatGPT and language models in education and academic/scientific research. This paper examines the development and rise of ChatGPT and similar AI tools, their pros and cons, their impact on academic research and possible intellectual property conflicts. It concludes that ChatGPT and language models are here to stay and makes recommendations for its ethical usage to prevent and detect plagiarism and protect intellectual property rights.

Abstract:Developed by OpenAI, ChatGPT is a publicly accessible tool that uses GPT (Generative Pre-training Transformer) technology. As a sophisticated chatbot, it can fulfill a wide range of text-based requests, including answering simple questions and completing more advanced tasks such as generating thank you letters and addressing productivity issues. It is even capable of writing entire scholarly essays by breaking a main topic into subtopics and having ChatGPT write each section, it is possible to create an entire article using the tool. It is even possible to write an entire paper in a matter of seconds with minimal input from a researcher [ Citation 1 ]. If this has been done already and a ChatGPT- generated paper has been published in medical science is hard to know for sure. To my knowledge it has, however, not to date been documented to be the case.

Abstract:Open Artificial Intelligence (AI) published an AI chatbot tool called ChatGPT at the end of November 2022. Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) architecture is the foundation of ChatGPT. On the internet, ChatGPT has been rapidly growing. This chatbot enables users to discuss with the AI by inputting prompts, and it is based on OpenAI’s language model. Although ChatGPT is fantastic and produces exciting results for writing tales, poetry, songs, essays, and other things, it has certain restrictions. Users may ask the bot questions, and it will reply with pertinent, convincing subjects and replies. ChatGPT has now risen to the top of several academic agendas. Administrators create task teams and hold institution-wide meetings to react to the tools, with most of the advice being to adopt this technology. This paper briefs about the ChatGPT and its need. Further, various Progressive Work Flow Processes of the ChatGPT Tool are stated diagrammatically. Specific features and capabilities of the ChatGPT Support System are studied in this paper. Finally, we identified and discussed the significant roles of ChatGPT in the current scenario. The neural language models that form the foundation of character AI have been developed from the bottom up with talks in mind. This technology implies that the programme uses deep learning methods to analyse and produce text. The model “understands” the subtleties of human-produced natural language using vast amounts of data from the internet.

Abstract:Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly tools like OpenAI's popular ChatGPT, is reshaping the landscape of computer science research. Used wisely, these tools can boost the productivity of a computer research scientist. This paper provides an exploration of the diverse applications of ChatGPT and other generative AI technologies in computer science academic research, making recommendations about the use of Generative AI to make more productive the role of the computer research scientist, with the focus of writing new research papers. We highlight innovative uses such as brainstorming research ideas, aiding in the drafting and styling of academic papers and assisting in the synthesis of state-of-the-art section. Further, we delve into using these technologies in understanding interdisciplinary approaches, making complex texts simpler, and recommending suitable academic journals for publication. Significant focus is placed on generative AI's contributions to synthetic data creation, research methodology, and mentorship, as well as in task organization and article quality assessment. The paper also addresses the utility of AI in article review, adapting texts to length constraints, constructing counterarguments, and survey development. Moreover, we explore the capabilities of these tools in disseminating ideas, generating images and audio, text transcription, and engaging with editors. We also describe some non-recommended uses of generative AI for computer science research, mainly because of the limitations of this technology.

Abstract:This article presents a scientometric and literature analysis of current research on ChatGPT, a conversational AI technology developed by OpenAI. Using various databases, 103 relevant articles were retrieved and analyzed through scientometric, quantitative, and application-based approaches. A Google trend analysis and comparison with other generative AI and chatbot technologies were also carried out. The study provides insights into the distribution of ChatGPT publications across different countries and regions, the network of co-occurring keywords, authorship analysis, article typology, and publishing entities. The findings offer a comprehensive overview of the current state of ChatGPT research, highlighting key directions for future research. The study finds that ChatGPT has gained significant attention and interest in online platforms, particularly in technology, education, and healthcare, and highlights potential ethical and legal concerns related to its use. Its applications extend to several literary and text generation areas. We do note that the sample of extracted publications is lower than anticipated due to the niche area of investigation. The article is relevant to researchers, practitioners, and policymakers interested in the field of AI-powered language models, especially ChatGPT.

Abstract:Ever since the public release of ChatGPT in November 2022, serious concerns have been raised about the impact and potentially dire consequences of the increasingly widespread use of generative AI tools for purposes of scientific writing and publishing. We document the ongoing discussion in the science community with a review of news articles, editorials, and position statements by major scientific publishers; discuss the potential pitfalls of using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT as aids in scholarly writing; furnish evidence for the proposition that AI-induced contamination of the scientific literature is not only a threat, but already a reality; and call upon leaders in our field to develop policies and guidelines to stem the spread of such contamination. Closing on a positive note, we provide a brief overview of potentially useful capabilities and sensible applications of ChatGPT and similar AI tools for purposes of scholarly writing.
