Abstract:Experimentally, the characteristics of self-compacting concrete (SCC) produced from cement kiln dust (CKD) and reinforced by two waste fibers (polypropylene; PP and waste plastic fiber; WPL) was studied. Three various CKD percentages of (0, 5, 10, and 15%) by weight were utilized as cement substitutions with/without fiber. All SCC mixtures were investigated for L-box height ratio, slump flow diameter and time, and segregation resistance. Besides, water absorption, thermal conductivity, flexural and compressive strengths, were performed to investigate the hardened characteristics. The workability of the mixes was decreased particularly for the incorporation of fiber as the diameter of slump flow reduced about 13.33% for mixture CKD15WPLPP compared to the mixture without fiber. However, all results were within the standard limitations. Moreover, the use of 15% CKD with 0.5% WPL and PP enhanced the flexural and compressive strengths about 46.1% and 35% compared to the mixture without fiber. Utilizing polypropylene and CKD fiber had a positive impact on the values of thermal conductivity, while a negative impact on the absorption of water but within a standard limitation for a good quality of concrete.
