Abstract:The development of digital culture has made significant changes in the field of culture and information, in particular in the field of library activities. Digitization of library collections forms a digital resource of knowledge, which requires reflection and identification of its potential, strengths and weaknesses. The strengths of the digital resource include a multiple increase in the availability of the book collections and a qualitative change in the opportunity of their research. The problematic aspects of digitalization include the issue of reliability of the digital sources and authenticity of a book unit translated into digital format. One of the verification solutions to this issue may be creating a digital information block accompanying a digital book to collect, accumulate and preserve information about the paper book unit and the history of its existence. Due to the development of digital technologies, a paper book ceases to be the only medium of information. From an information document, it turns into an object of culture with a memory value, historical and artistic features. The translation of the book into the category of a cultural object brings together the position of libraries and museums as medium socio-communicative institutions that act as a platform for the presentation of their collections, one of the most optimal forms of which are exhibitions. The article considers the issues of representativeness of book exhibits and book exhibitions in the conditions of development of the digital environment and digital technologies. There is examined the representativeness of book exhibitions using the example of thematic and artistic-mythological exposition methods. The article considers the activities of the Museum of Painting Culture (MZHK) and the Higher Art and Technical Workshops (VKHUTEMAS) and their experimental searches of the first third of the 20th century in the field of creating new museum exposition forms and exhibition formats. The author draws parallels between universal methods of working with an art object developed by MZHK and VKHUTEMAS and working with book exhibits when creating an exhibition today. The article briefly outlines the tasks solved by the curatorial and design group to strengthen the representative function of an exhibit-book. There are analyzed modern forms of real and virtual exhibitions, their interrelation and mutual influence, formats of interaction. The article notes the importance of exhibitions for the self-presentation of cultural institutions in the digital space.

Abstract:The article is devoted to the search for optimal ideas for the transformation of National Art Museums into multifunctional cultural formations based on the modern modernization of the museum as a creative constant of the creative industry. In the complex of tasks related to the improvement and optimization of exhibition activities, its relationship with the needs of the visitor, the theme of the formation of the architecture of complete museum buildings and the reconstruction of existing ones to ensure their dominance and communication with urban communities and creative spaces of urban historical areas is of particular importance. In a comprehensive analysis of the ways of transformation of art museums due to the improvement of aesthetic canons and especially necessary at the time of hypertrophied globalization of the so-called "gadget contacts" to ensure real full-fledged communication within the human community and with the artistic achievements of generations at various stages of the development of societies. The artistic image of a museum building or complex plays an important role in the interaction between the museum space and the visitor, and it is the architecture of the museum that seamlessly "draws" the visitor into the unique world of artistic heritage, introduces the concentration of creative creativity, separating it from the routine of everyday life in the city society.

Abstract:Nowadays, there is an active reconstruction of the old and the creation of new militaryhistorical museums. In the process of this work, the curators set the task of reflecting its purpose through its appearance. It becomes possible understanding by studying the architecture of the museum through the centuries. The paper discusses the architectural projects of the Russian Military Historical Museum which were stored in the archive of the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer troops and Signal Corps. The reader is informed that it was one of the stages of the work of the Committee on its Structure, created by Emperor Nicholas II’s order. The main ideas about museum buildings in the Russian Empire at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries were mentioned in the article. The main requirement was the correspondence of external and internal content. It was possible to identify common features: as a rule, these were two-storey stone buildings in the neo-Russian style, where, in addition to the exhibition halls, an arsenal, a lobby and a number of additional rooms were provided. The architects, whose projects were highly appreciated, took the palace buildings of the pre-Petrine period as a basis. As a result, the winner of the competition was Vladimir Pokrovsky’s the project which, unfortunately, was not implemented. However, the plot considered in the article is an example of an integrated approach to the organization of the museum, which was not developed in the USSR. The idea of building a Single Military Historical museum at that time did not lose its relevance. However, as a rule, it was assumed that the existing building would be adapted. Consequently, the competition of architectural projects of the Russian Military Historical Museum is one of the few examples in the history of museum construction in Russia when comprehensive work was carried out on the organization of internal and external space.

Abstract:Introduction: The issue of preserving historical and cultural heritage is currently highly relevant. The restoration of ancient architectural structures, preservation of their historical appearance, and adaptation to new functions constitute an important step forward towards that goal. Considering the situation with cultural heritage sites in Ryazan, we should note that the city really needs such measures. Many historical, cultural, and architectural monuments have been lost and continue to be destroyed because of incompetent interference with their architectural-and-planning structure (demolition, unauthorized reconstruction, etc.). Purpose of the study: We aimed to describe the specifics of the preservation, restoration, and adaptation of cultural and historical heritage sites to modern needs. Methods: In the course of the study, we used a systemic approach, analyzed various sources and materials on the restoration and protection of historical and architectural monuments. Results: In the paper, we consider a particular example from the architectural practice of adapting a part of an ancient structure to modern use. The paper gives a brief historical background and information on the structures and materials used, discusses methods and technological solutions, analyzes design solutions. Based on the results of the works conducted, we determine issues of adapting a recognized cultural heritage site to modern living conditions and using it in a new capacity in accordance with the applicable regulatory documents. When facing the issue of adapting historical buildings that have lost their original function, it is necessary to perform works without changing their protected features. Within the framework of cultural heritage site preservation, a concept has been developed to serve as the basis for its conversion and operation as a cafe.

Abstract:The Henan Museum is one of the first museums in China which requires modernization of its design. This work is devoted to the development of a new design concept for the Henan Museum space, the hall of musical instruments of the Great Silk Road, in order to develop recommendations for further brand promotion in the field of tourist attractiveness and the development of the local economy. The object of the study is the museum of Henan Province, China, the subject is the influence of the museum brand on the popularization of ancient Chinese culture. The analysis of some Asian museums is given, the stages of the museum's formation are described, the elements of rebranding are developed: logo, booklet, poster, website, advertising products of the museum. The concept of the design of the exhibition hall "Musical Instruments of the Great Silk Road" was proposed, visualizations were made and a video flight of the hall was created, with a visual representation of the exhibits for remote access and viewing. A situational approach to the organization of the environment was used when developing the design of the museum space. The scientific novelty and theoretical significance of the research lies in the rebranding of the Museum of Culture, in the development of a new concept for the design of the exhibition hall of the museum space of the Henan Museum. Some modern trends in the development of museum space design on the example of domestic and foreign museums are discussed.

Abstract:The article examines the exhibition space of Russian museums of the Soviet and post-Soviet periods as an object of culture. Emphasis is placed on its importance in shaping and reflecting social values, and the evolution of exhibition spaces, design elements, and the role they play in presenting, interpreting, and preserving cultural heritage are examined. The discussion covers the layout, interconnection and functionality of the various zones inside the museum. The tasks in designing architectural and artistic solutions for museum complexes are perhaps one of the most difficult in environmental design. Here it is necessary to take into account functionality, ergonomics, aesthetics, subordinating them to the general concept of the museum complex, considering the regularity of the location of objects, the movement of visitor flows, the zoning of space, taking into account the safety and preservation of cultural objects. The article highlights the design features of the museum space of the XX–XXI centuries, taking into account historical changes, political realities, stylistic trends and trends in art.

Abstract:Various aspects of constructing stationary and mobile museum expositions of Ukraine in different regions of the country are analyzed, with the purpose of creating permanent exhibitions on the history of the modern Russo-Ukrainian War. The positive experience in organizing the preservation and popularization of the Russo-Ukrainian War monuments in the capital and regional museums of Ukraine is summarized, as well as the processes of their exposition and exhibition activity transformation at the current stage are studied. It is noted that the significance of constructing expositions on the modern history of Ukraine and the exhibition activities of national museums increased in connection with the Russia-Ukraine war of 2014 - 2023, when exposition materials became not only a means of forming historical memory, but also a source of patriotism and loyalty to national priorities, an important factor in formation of the Ukrainian nation. Individual exhibitions are studied in the “National Museum on the History of Ukraine in the Second World War”, “Memorial Complex”, "National Museum of the History of Ukraine", "National Military Historical Museum", regional local history museums, museums of higher military educational institutions, garrison museums. The study emphasizes the relevance of creating virtual means of presenting the historical past and present. The opening of virtual exhibitions and expositions in Ukraine is promising, as it connects a large audience both in our country and abroad with the exhibition ma-terial and unique funds. Foreign presentations have become an important field in modern expositions presentations. This applies both to the work of individual museums and individual foundations, European and global press centers, individual foundations, etc. A conclusion is made about the accumulated rich experience of the museums of Ukraine in all spheres of activity and, primarily, the active use of museum collections in the national and patriotic education of our country’s youth.

Abstract:The article is devoted to the role of the municipal museum in changing and presenting the cultural landscape of the historical part of the urban environment of modern Ulan-Ude with the help of exposition-exhibition, cultural-educational and project activities, including grant activities. The formation of the museum fund is considered in the process of gradual museumification of the building - a monument of history, architecture and urban planning of regional significance, which was given over to the museum with the assistance of the City Administration, which indicates the interest of the mayor’s office in the emergence of a municipal museum in the capital of Buryatia. The close relationship of the historical past of the city with the modern architectonics of the urban environment and the lapidarity (conciseness) of the museum’s stock collections is revealed. Attention is also paid to the issue of establishing the status of a museum, either a memorial museum or a museum-estate, which requires further careful study and justification.

Abstract:The purpose of the article is to investigate the current state of the interior of the palace building of the Uzhhorod Castle of the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Local Lore (TRMLL) named after T. Legotskyi and to analyze the newest interpretation design models of expositional space. The obtained results, interpret them through philosophical models of interior design, take into account stylistic features; needs of society, trends and advanced technologies in the field of environment design. Research methods. The research is based on ideology, imagery, philosophical interpretation, art history and source studies. As well as modern methods of three-dimensional modeling, texturing, rendering and post-production of the obtained visualizations. The scientific novelty. The article suggests and theoretically substantiates design concepts, philosophical interpretation of interior design and technological equipment. New ideas dealing with exhibitional space and museum exhibition arrangement were put forward. It was successfully managed to combine medieval, Renaissance and baroque fortification architecture, historical design of residential palace interior with modern technologies and plastics. Conclusions. Nowadays interior of palace building of T.Legoskyi TRMLL Uzhhorod Castle is in the state of emergency condition, needs capital repair and restoration. Having analyzed academic works of Transcarpathian historians and having studied the modern condition of Uzhhorod Castle, it appeared to be possible to reveal problems pertaining expositional space arrangement of T.Legoskyi TRMLL- old equipment, the necessity to heat premises and their repair, and the main issue- the need to renovate, create new interior design, which is to be based on sources and at the same time on rethinking of stylistic layers. The achieved interpretation models demonstrare possible ways to renovate exhibition space of the palace building, fully open author ambitions and ideas. The imsges found symbolize continuity of time, rethink medieval, Renaissance and baroque aesthetics-combine the new technologies, modern art trends and authentic paintings and reliefs. Museum T.Legotskyi TRMLL archive exhibits do not fall out from the context, they emphasize specificity of premises and architectural complex in general. Historic continuity and strong stylistic onnection in suggested interpretation models is observed.

Abstract:The work is devoted to the development of the concept of a contemporary field-specific museum on the example of the Museum of Aviation and Cosmonautics of Samara University. The rapid development of the Kuibyshev Aviation Insti-tute, and later the Samara National Research University named after academician S.P.Korolev identified the need to improve not only the expositions of the museum, but also to propose a new concept of the museum, to greatly expand its role and significance in external relations, in education and in scientific activity. The design of the museum concept was based on the ontological approach. The analysis of the legal framework of museum activities in the Russian Federa-tion is carried out, the views of philosophers and historians on the concept of the museum are presented, the practice of designing modern museums, and the features of specialized, and in particular, university museums are considered. The authors propose to include a virtual tour of the locations that previously independently existed at the university, and are used in the educational process. These are: a training aerodrome where the samples of aviation equipment are presented; Europe's largest Center for the History of Aircraft Engines, aircraft class and equipment class; Museum of the history of KuAI-SSAU. On the one hand, it is important to maintain continuity in the museum's expositions, and on the other hand, it is significant to offer innovative solutions that will be in demand by a potential consumer and the target audi-ence. It is proposed to focus on the museum of the future, on the widespread use of information technologies, the presentation of new and future projects, on the expansion of the volume of thematic material through QR codes, which allow visitors to supplement audio and video materials. Equipping the museum with bilingual audio guides and basic inscriptions is an indisputable requirement for a modern museum. Cool and original lighting, moving models and exhib-its, flying drones and flies, the use of virtual and augmented reality technologies, as well as a relaxation zone in the form of an aircraft cabin will make it possible to achieve the desired impression among visitors about the university of the future.

Abstract:The authors analyzed the stages of creation, formation, development and modern activity of the Museum of Theater, Music and Cinema Arts of Ukraine, which is the only one in Ukraine in terms of its specialization. This museum has a history famous for its names and events. It is widely known in Ukraine and abroad for its permanent exhibitions and mobile exhibitions, created on unique exhibits from the history of theater, music, and cinema. Collected during its existence – since 1923 – a large and multifaceted collection of monuments from the history of the development of arts, which is constantly replenished with new materials, is the basis for scientific research, scientific advisory, expositional and exhibition work, a rich source for popularizing the achievements of the national theater, music and cinema. The article emphasizes that theater museums, film and music museums are an integral part of the development of world culture. They arose, developed and formed into a separate typological group of art museums. The uniqueness of each theater museum was determined by stationary expositions and temporary exhibitions, which were the main sphere of operation and a form of use and popularization of the processed funds. Reproducing the phenomena and events of the theatrical heritage, expositions and exhibitions visualized the most significant assets of both the past and modern theater and theater science in the language of museum exhibits. Research and analysis of the historical experience of exposition and exhibition activity of theater museums, film and music museums will be important for an objective assessment of the positive and negative consequences of the influence of national and cultural processes on their functioning and development. The challenges faced by theater museums, film museums and music museums in the course of their activities have common features and may vary depending on the specific situation and context. The article analyzes the typical problems and features that theater, film and music museums face in their activities. The article shows that these problems may differ for each specific theater museum depending on its size, financial resources, location and other factors. Their features may vary among theater, music, and film museums, depending on their resources, scale, and specialization. However, solutions to these challenges may include working with conservation professionals, attracting grants and sponsors, developing educational programs, and using new technologies to improve visitor audience engagement.

Abstract:Abstract In the developed countries of the world, the interests of society are increasingly becoming oriented towards acquaintance with the cultural characteristics that characterize the identity of a particular region. The result of interaction with national traditions, as components of culture is clearly demonstrated by architecture. In relation to China, its rich cultural heritage has become a source for creating unique modern museum structures. This paper analyzes a number of design solutions of museum constructions in the PRC, which clearly represent actual ways of rethinking of cultural traditions. Using the example of the Ningbo History Museum, the Xinjin Zhi Museum in Chengdu, the Folk-art galleries for China Academy of Arts and the Museum of Handcraft Paper, professional methods that determine architectural nature of museum structure are systematized. At the same time, they act as carriers of local features expressing “the spirit of the place”.

Abstract:The exhibition titled «My Minsk – My Inspiration» was organized at the Museum of the History of Minsk and the Belarusian Union of Artists and held in 2021 from September 9 to 26 at the Mikhail Savitsky Art Gallery. This exhibition brought together fine arts and cinema: along with pictorial and graphic works, a number of documentaries in Minsk were presented for viewing, as well as feature films shot especially in Minsk. The purpose of the article is to evaluate paintings and graphic works from the collection of the Belarusian Union of artists presented at the exhibition «My Minsk – my inspiration» in the art gallery of Mikhail Savitsky in Minsk. Created between 1945 and 2018, the mentioned works reflect buildings and streets, valuable in terms of urban development. Paintings have historical and artistic value. The article provides the author's definition of the term «artistic reflection». Based on the method of typing the essence of three artistic reflections of the architectural heritage is revealed: «mirror reflection of artistic heritage», «reflection with the phenomena of artistic reflection» and «fiction in the reflection of the architectural heritage», as well as the identification of works to identify signs of artistic reflection.

Abstract:Introduction. Today, many university museums around the world are facing the need to revise the principles of their activities in order to fully integrate into the daily life of their educational institutions. The main functions for such museums are patriotic, image-building, educational, educational and career guidance. Modern challenges include attracting not only students and applicants, but also a wider audience. Challenges of introducing new technologies will make them more relevant to younger generation. However, without defining the main purpose of the museum’s existence, it is impossible to build a coherent path for its development. Purpose. To determine the basic principles of exhibition organisation and its placement in the structure of a university campus, depending on the nature of the museum and the image of the educational institution. Results. Using the example of museums of the world’s largest universities, the specifics of their location depending on specialisation, the correlation between the organization of space and the theme of the exhibition, the characteristics of exhibition equipment, the principles of placement of different types of expositions in the structure of campuses are determined. Conclusions. It has been found that when the university is image oriented towards history and traditions, the museums are located in historical buildings and have a more familiar spatial structure and principles exhibition organization. In the case of striving to demonstrate the innovative nature of the university, the priority is given to the placement in the most accessible and technologically advanced modern buildings. Exhibitions related to the current life of the university are housed in more light, versatile and democratic spaces. The latest trend is the active use of multimedia and interactivity.

Abstract:The article describes the state of museums in the past, the impact of monotonous activities in the country on the number of visitors, as well as the introduction of new technologies and their impact on museums. The importance of using new technologies in the provision of their services, quickly focused on the modern period of museums that are among the top 10 world-famous museums, is emphasized. Virtual tours in 3D format of several foreign and patronymic museums and exhibitions with the use of modern technologies and augmented virtual reality indicate that the museum's attendance is increasing both online and offline. The situation in our country shows that significant work needs to be done to increase the number of visitors to museums, including the use of new technologies, good advertising, various promotions. This idea can be confirmed by the results of a survey on the use of augmented reality and virtual reality technologies in the museum in our country. The desire of a total of 179 participants to visit the museum confirms the need to develop this area. In the near future, people's visits to museums may change, their situation shows that the industry needs to be developed in the future, there is a great opportunity to deliver art to people previously unavailable, people who do not have the opportunity to travel and visit famous museums have online access to the world's best collections. Strict restrictions due to the pandemic have increased people's interest in listening to virtual tours of museums, which, among other things, is due to the fact that the museums themselves are beginning to quickly direct visitors to online tours.

Abstract:In the current communication era where priority is given to the temporary over the permanent, museums are increasingly developing temporary exhibitions and through them the museum is being transformed. These are used as strategic devices offering diverse opportunities: from acting as powerful marketing tools, triggering visits, and generating income, to experimenting with new display approaches and creating prestige for the museum. At the same time, they raise challenges, including in keeping balance with other key museum functions. Against the background of a critical overview of their significance in museum literature, and of a set of themes characterizing the phenomenon in Greek archaeological museums over the last decade, the paper focuses on a temporary exhibition realized though a partnership between a public national museum and a private cultural foundation. Its analysis, based mainly on interviews with curators and organizers, will suggest that this unique initiative between two Greek partners has a much broader relevance. Examining it in the context of national exhibition policies, European initiatives and guidelines and international experience, allows it to be argued, in the last part of the paper, that the joining in partnership of private and public bodies in the context of temporary museum exhibitions can emerge as a tool for cultural innovation and contribute to new and imaginative ways of using museum collections. At the same time, it can extend business support for museums well beyond the traditional forms of funding and sponsorship.
Visitors’ Perception of a Multimodal Exhibition: A Case Study at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum

Abstract:One of the most important issues for museum curators today is to enhance the digital experiences of visitors. Multimedia and hypermodal resources have been tailor-made to meet the expectations of modern audiences, or so the curators have perceived. With a view to investigating the effectiveness of museum-based multimodal devices in Hong Kong, this chapter uses a case study evaluation approach to examine the visitors’ digital experiences in “Claude Monet: The Spirit of Space” (May to July, 2016), a much-acclaimed exhibition held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. To find out the museum visitors’ perception of the multimedia setting and their multimodal experiences in the Monet exhibition, the authors invited 12 Hong Kong adult visitors to participate in the case study. Findings from the small-scale opinion survey and focus group interviews revealed that digital devices, multimedia platforms, and resources do enhance visitors’ engagement, regardless of the different education levels or fine arts backgrounds of the exhibition visitors. However, in terms of narrative design and meaning making, most visitors reflected that digital platforms may sometimes overwhelm the core content they represent. Whether the aura of the masterpieces can be fully captured and/or enhanced by the digital tools has also aroused concerns. The gap between the exhibition content and the digital design has to be bridged. Based on the findings, this chapter explores how images, sounds, words, and designs interact and integrate in constructing a coherent discourse in the exhibition. This chapter also discusses ways to craft a focused, specific, and coherent narrative as learning experiences at museums become more and more digitized.
