Abstract:How children acquire language has always been a topic of interesting research around the world after the 1950s. In Turkey, children's language acquisition studies began to attract attention in the 1980s. Baykoç-Dönmez (1986); Topbaş (2005); Ege (2005); Baştürk (2013); Keklik (2015); Aksu-Koç ve Ketrez (2016) are guiding studies on the acquisition of Turkish but compared to the literatures, it seems that the studies in which the form and process of acquisition of Turkish are investigated are few in number. This study was conducted to examine the development of syntax in children who acquire Turkish. The study, which examined how syntax develops from the one-word period to early grammar and advanced grammar, involved 11 children aged 6-36 months. Natural observation method was applied in the study, audio and video recordings of children were taken for 1 hour in a natural environment 15 days apart in two and a half years. Syntax was examined on the data obtained and compared with the data in the studies on this subject. As a result, syntax in children who acquire Turkish develops earlier than the specified. It has been observed that the use of one-word sentences begins in the 11th months. 18-24 months were evaluated the period of early grammar development, as sentence productions with a complex structure are seen. 24-36 months as a period of advanced grammar development. When evaluating the process and form of Turkish acquisition, it was found that the stages of language acquisition differ from the general stages of language acquisition.
