Abstract:An environmentally friendly ceramsite was prepared using industrial solid wastes lime mud and fly ash through sintering method. The Ca2+ release ability was evoked by wollastonite and gehlenite in the main crystalline phases, and the porous structure ensured the release process slow but persistent. Phosphorous removal efficiency of the ceramsite was verified by static and dynamic adsorption respectively. By regulating pH to a highly alkaline condition independently and releasing sufficient Ca2+, efficiently phosphorous removal was realized by forming hydroxyapatite, with an equilibrium adsorption capacity of 0.2425 mg/g and a removal efficiency of 97%. Meanwhile, the ceramsite was applied as a novel filter medium in a biological aerated filter to investigate the feasibility of the simultaneous removal of phosphorous and nitrogen. Results indicated the average removal efficiency of PO43--P and NH4+-N could be kept stable above 90% over a long-term operation, which was ensured by the simultaneous nitrification-denitrification and assimilation into biomass.
