Abstract:Teacher-student relationship is perhaps one of the most important relationships a person will encounter; it is considered a vital relationship in which a person's founding principles exist (Lowman, 1995 Lowman, J. ( 1995 ). Mastering the techniques of teaching ( 2nd ed.). San Francisco : Jossey-Bass . [Google Scholar] ). Teacher-student interaction inherently involves some amount of self-disclosure by both parties. Teacher self-disclosure is defined as "teacher statements in the classroom about self that may or may not be related to subject content, but reveal information about the teacher that students are unlikely to learn from other sources" (Sorensen, 1989 Sorensen, G. ( 1989 ). The relationship among teachers' self‐disclosive statements, students' perceptions, and affective learning . Communication Education , 38, 259‐276 . doi: 10.1080/03634528909378762 [Taylor & Francis Online] , [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar] , p. 260). Teacher self-disclosure has been recognized as an effective instructional tool in classroom teaching which can be considered as a pedagogical tool. According to Jourard ( 1971 Jourard, S. M. ( 1971 ). Self-disclosure: An experimental analysis of the transparent self . New York, NY : John Wiley & Sons . [Google Scholar] ), self-disclosure can consist of intimate and non-intimate topics. Intimate topics, for example, might be family concerns, financial status, and preferences; non-intimate self-disclosure might include political preference and personal hobbies and interests.
