Abstract:Microbial enzymes are significant for different industrial processes. The important features of an enzyme are: high substrate specificity, mild reaction conditions, limited by-product formation and high product yield. The key obstacles to use them on an industrial scale are related to economic concerns that may cause the high process costs. Lignocellulosic biomass could be used as an alternative to carbon sources for microbial enzymes production. Lignocellulosic biomass waste is generated post-harvest of crops and it is known as a low-cost and readily available resource for microbial cultivation. For several years, microorganisms have been the primary source of a range of enzymes, which have been explored through extensive research. These enzymes are important in industrial applications. Amylase is one of the crucial enzymes for the conversion of starch into sugar monomers. Solid-state fermentation as well as submerged fermentation techniques are being used for microbial production of Amylase. This review discussed Amylase, its applications in different industries and microbial production from lignocellulosic biomass as an economical substrate.
