Abstract:Petroleum are mostly found in the sandstone reservoris whithin the Ngrayong and Wonocolo Formations of Middle to Late Miocene ages in the Madura Sub-Basin, Indonesia. Oligo-Miocene reef carbonates have recently attracted the attention of industry. These reef carbonate buildups have the best petro-physical properties, but are the least well understood formations. Combined 2D seismic data interpretation, 3D seismic data attribute extraction, and drilling results, core data and logging data analysis shows that there are two tectonic systems co-existed in the study area and the rifting system trending NE, controls the development of the Kujung reef carbonate, while the subduction system trending EW, provides additional heat for the source rock and tilts the Kujung reef carbonate. The tilting of the carbonate reservoirs results the gas leaking, so gas reservoirs can only be found in the upper level reservoirs and south of the Rembang-Madura-Kangean (RMK) line.
