First record of Aedes (Aedes) cinereus (Diptera: Culicidae) in Iran

Abstract:Iranian mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) include 72 species across eight genera. The fauna of mosquitoes in Guilan Province comprises 34 species representing seven genera. In a study conducted between 2022 and 2023, we collected there 134 adult females, previously not found in Iran. Morphological analysis classified them as Aedes ( Aedes ) cinereus . Confirmation of their identification came from the barcode sequence of the COI gene. This species, along with its subgenus, marks a new addition to the Iranian mosquito fauna.
