Abstract:The 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Professors K. Barry Sharpless, Morten Meldal and Carolyn Bertozzi for their pioneering roles in the advent of click chemistry. Sharpless and Meldal worked to develop the canonical click reaction—the copper-catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition—while Bertozzi opened new frontiers with the creation of the bioorthogonal strain-promoted azide–alkyne cycloaddition. These two reactions have revolutionized chemical and biological science by facilitating selective, high yielding, rapid and clean ligations and by providing unprecedented ways to manipulate living systems. Click chemistry has affected every aspect of chemistry and chemical biology, but few disciplines have been impacted as much as radiopharmaceutical chemistry. The importance of speed and selectivity in radiochemistry make it an almost tailor-made application of click chemistry. In this Perspective, we discuss the ways in which the copper-catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition, the strain-promoted azide–alkyne cycloaddition and a handful of 'next-generation' click reactions have transformed radiopharmaceutical chemistry, both as tools for more efficient radiosyntheses and as linchpins of technologies that have the potential to improve nuclear medicine.

Abstract:The Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the year 2021 was awarded to Prof. Benjamin List of Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany and Prof. David W.C. MacMillan of Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, USA. The award was given for their contribution to developing and popularizing asymmetric organocatalysis as an efficient tool for the construction of organic molecules. Organocatalysis is the use of small organic molecules to catalyze organic reactions, which has gained attention for bringing about asymmetric transformations without the use of metal catalysts. Both Prof. List and Prof. MacMillan pioneered the activation of carbonyl compounds by converting them to iminium ions or enamines using optically active secondary amines as organocatalysis. This article will discuss the contributions of List and MacMillan with brief introductions to the problems they attempted to solve using organocatalysis.

Abstract:Although the concept of click chemistry was proposed more than twenty years ago, the research progress of click chemistry has emerged with great vitality, and this year's Nobel Prize in chemistry has once again highlighted the importance of the field of click chemistry. Click chemistry is a reaction in which a variety of molecules are quickly and reliably synthesized by piecing together small units. In particular, it emphasizes the development of new combinatorial chemistry methods based on the synthesis of carbon-heteroatomic bonds and the simple and efficient acquisition of molecular diversity through these reactions. Based on the superior reaction characteristics of click chemistry, click chemistry methods for production are advancing toward precision, simplicity, and high returns, especially in producing polymer materials and some bright biomedical applications. Here, we describe the development logic of typical click reactions with different substrates and catalysts. The latest technologies of click chemistry in the structure control and functional properties of polymers, as well as in the field of biomedicine and its expanding applications, are discussed. Finally, we identify the challenges of click chemistry in reaction mechanisms and engineering applications, and suggest potential future development directions in the future. Abstract:With the advancement of the field of chemistry,the synthesis of an increasingly diverse range of compounds has become feasible.The study of substances now encompasses various scales:from macroscopic to microscopic,often extending into the mesoscopic domain,typically at the nanoscale.At the nanometer scale,many materials manifest size-dependent effects,with quantum dots standing out as the most prominent representative.Quantum dots denote a class of semiconductors that exhibit size-dependent quantum effects when their dimensions closely approach the exciton Bohr radius.Through meticulous size control while preserving a consistent chemical composition,it is plausible to modulate the bandgap along with the accompanying absorption and emission spectra.This characteristic brings new opportunities for the research and application of semiconductor nanomaterials.The 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to quantum dots and claimed that they light up nanoscience.Combining the three Nobel laureates'work,this article embarks upon the historical trajectory of the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots,offering a concise overview of the pertinent scientific achievements.

Abstract:The 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Aleksey I. Ekimov (prize share 1/3), Louis E. Brus (prize share 1/3), and Moungi G. Bawendi (prize share 1/3) for groundbreaking inventions in the field of nanotechnology, i.e., for the discovery and synthesis of semiconductor nanocrystals, also termed quantum dots, that exhibit size-dependent physicochemical properties enabled by quantum size effects. This feature article summarizes the main milestones of the discoveries and developments of quantum dots that paved the road to their versatile applications in solid-state lighting, display technology, energy conversion, medical diagnostics, bioimaging, and image-guided surgery.

Kelly from The Scripps Research Institute, "for pioneering discoveries that illuminate the functions and pathological dysfunctions of RNA and proteins and for creating strategies to harness the capabilities of these biopolymers in new ways to ameliorate human diseases." Their pioneering research works have made a huge impact on contemporary chemical biology and deserve celebration by the whole community.

Abstract:In the quest to scrutinize and modify biological systems, the global research community has continued to explore bio-orthogonal click reactions, a set of reactions exclusively targeting non-native molecules within biological systems. These methodologies have brought about a paradigm shift, demonstrating the feasibility of artificial chemical reactions occurring on cellular surfaces, in the cell cytosol, or within the body – an accomplishment challenging to achieve with the majority of conventional chemical reactions. This review delves into the principles of bio-orthogonal click chemistry, contrasting metal-catalyzed and metal-free reactions of bio-orthogonal nature. It comprehensively explores mechanistic details and applications, highlighting the versatility and potential of this methodology in diverse scientific contexts, from cell labelling to biosensing and polymer synthesis. Researchers globally continue to advance this powerful tool for precise and selective manipulation of biomolecules in complex biological systems.
