Abstract:Wireless solar blind ultraviolet (UV) scattering communication is a new type of atmosphere optics communication technology with the important and potential advantages of all-weather, non-line-of-sight and secret communication, which is suitable for the needs of cluster security of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) formation flight. UV communication technology can be applied to share UAVs status information, combined with efficient formation control method can achieve autonomous assembly, collision avoidance and formation keeping in UAV formation flight. In order to avoid the collision avoidance problem between the UAVs in the classic formation control algorithm. In this paper, the artificial potential function of the formation control algorithm is improved and the improved algorithm is applied to a single virtual leader UAV and multi-virtual leader UAVs. The simulation results show that the algorithm can ensure that the UAVs speed in the formation is consistent with the speed of the virtual leader UAV. In the course of the flight, the UAVs can avoid collision. Finally, the formation flight is completed with the desired formation.

Abstract:One integrated algorithm for a couple of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to follow a ground target cooperatively is presented. By introducing the funnel function and parameter freezing methods, communication and detection constraints are steadily maintained. Besides, cooperative strategy for measurement fusion purifies the noised geolocation data of the target. A simulation combining all proposed schemes is executed and the effectiveness is verified.

Abstract:With the rapid advancement of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology, their assigned missions have become significantly more intricate. Individual UAVs are no longer sufficient to meet these diverse and demanding requirements. There is now a shift towards employing multiple UAVs operating collaboratively to address complex tasks, replacing the reliance on singular units. This study focuses on the complexities of coordinated flight within UAV formations. A dynamic consensus optimal control algorithm is proposed for distributed formations, grounded in optimal control theory. Furthermore, the enhanced control method is validated via simulation on a semi-physical visualization platform, effectively closing the gap between real-world formation requirements and simulation outcomes. The results from these simulations underscore that the proposed method effectively preserves UAV formation integrity and demonstrates exceptional applicability in real-world scenarios.

Abstract:Coordinating multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (multi-UAVs) is a challenging technique in highly dynamic and sophisticated environments. Based on digital pheromones as well as current mainstream unmanned system controlling algorithms, we propose a strategy for multi-UAVs to acquire targets with limited prior knowledge. In particular, we put forward a more reasonable and effective pheromone update mechanism, by improving digital pheromone fusion algorithms for different semantic pheromones and planning individuals’ probabilistic behavioral decision-making schemes. Also, inspired by the flocking model in nature, considering the limitations of some individuals in perception and communication, we design a navigation algorithm model on top of Olfati-Saber’s algorithm for flocking control, by further replacing the pheromone scalar to a vector. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can yield superior performance in terms of coverage, detection and revisit efficiency, and the capability of obstacle avoidance.

Abstract:With the continuous enrichment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) application scenarios, in recent years, the use of UAV formation to achieve air-ground coordination tasks is increasing. According to the current formation systems and control methods, an air-ground collaborative UAV formation control algorithm based on behavior strategy is designed: by introducing the idea of air-ground collaboration, it provides relay communication services for ground moving users and expands the communication coverage of UAV formations. Four UAV formations are designed for the formation of seven UAVs, the corresponding unit center position standards are derived, and the air-ground collaborative UAV formation control algorithm is simulated by the Unity software. The turning performance of the UAV formation using the algorithm is tested in the ideal environment and the obstacle avoidance, relay communication and formation change capabilities are tested in the simulated actual environment. Based on the proposed air-ground cooperative algorithm, two mission schemes are designed: the main mission scheme of regional search coverage, user lost contact search and rescue crash plan. Theoretical analysis and experimental simulation show that the algorithm and three schemes are feasible.

Abstract:To improve the cooperative search and attack effectiveness of multiple heterogeneous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in unknown environment, a novel coalition formation method with communication constraints is presented in this paper. First, the coalition formation model is established on the basis of minimizing the target attack delay and minimizing the coalition size with the constraint of required resources and simultaneous strike. Second, considering communication constrains such as limited communication ranges and communication delays, a mechanism was developed in order to find the potential coalition members within a maximum number of hops over a dynamic UAV network. Third, to reduce the huge computational complexity in coalition formation optimization solution we propose a Multistage Sub-Optimal Coalition Formation Algorithm (MSOCFA) with low computational complexity. Furthermore, in order to enable multiple cooperative UAVs accomplish the search and prosecute missions autonomously, a distributed autonomous control strategy is proposed which is based on the Finite-State Machine (FSM). Comparison simulations are carried out to demonstrate that how the potential coalition members finding technique impact on the coalition achieved by MSOCFA. The effects of number of maximum allowed hops for a message and hop delay are studied by employing Monte-Carlo method. The experimental reveals that, in the cases of large communication delay, forming a coalition from the immediate neighbors is sufficient for a good performance in term of the mission completion time. Under smaller delays, including neighbors up to a few hops will increase performance, and any additional increase in hop count will degrade performance.

The proposed map updating model and the cooperative control scheme are distributed, i.e., assuming that each agent only communicates with its neighbors within its communication range. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is illustrated by simulation.

Abstract:The development of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) formation control technology and air-ground cooperation technology make it possible to provide services for mobile users in harsh environments by UAV. According to the formation of system and control methods at the moment, this paper designs an improved algorithm based on behavior strategy: clearing cooperative UAV formation control algorithm by introducing space synergy of ideas and providing relay communication service for the ground users with four UAV formations and the corresponding position standards to complete the field synergy theory research of UAV formation control algorithm. Finally, the air-ground collaborative UAV modulation control algorithm is simulated using the Unity software platform to verify the feasibility of the algorithm in simulating the actual environment.

Abstract:The unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) cluster, compared to a single UAV, has better application potential in implementing complex and dangerous tasks. In recent research, cooperative formation control strategy and obstacle avoidance have always been focused to secure the safety of flight and task implementation. In this research, we propose the Local Pursuit (LP) strategy-inspired cooperative flight and collision avoidance model inspired by foraging ants, which consists of a formation control module and an obstacle avoidance module. In the formation control module, under the guidance of LP strategy, the follower UAVs will always point their velocity towards the leader UAV (which can be virtual) like ants following the ant ahead. Meanwhile, the velocity and formation position of each follower UAV can be adjusted by the 'speed control parameter (SCP)' related to the speed of the follower and the constant bias between the leader and the follower which is determined by the desired formation. Considering there are cases that some areas threatening the safety of the UAV need to be avoided, which can be regarded as external obstacles, an obstacle avoidance module based on velocity alignment with "shill" agents (virtual UAVs moving outward from obstacles to real UAV) is added for effective obstacle avoidance. The proposed method has limited parameters that need to be tuned. Finally, to show the efficiency of the proposed method, the simulations of UAV cluster formation flight and obstacle avoidance by using the proposed method are conducted through MATLAB.

Abstract:A collision avoidance control algorithm for a multi-UAV system based on bidirectional network connection structure is proposed in this paper, which can effectively avoid the collision of between UAVs, between the UAV and the obstacle, achieve the UAV cooperative formation flight and complete the mission. In order to avoid the collision well, the proposed consensus-based algorithm and the “leader-follower” control strategy are simultaneously applied to the formation control so that we can ensure the convergence of the formation. The three UAVs composed of the triangular formation as the control object, the leader flight path as expected path, the followers track the leader to maintain the triangle formation flight. And the safety distance of between the UAVs, between the inside of the UAV formation and the obstacle keep the safety distance. Each of the UAVs has the same forward velocity and heading angle rate in the horizontal plane as well as they keep the relative distance constant in the vertical direction. This paper proposes a multiple UAVs consensus-based collision avoidance algorithm based on the artificial potential field method. The simulation experiments are performed on multiple UAVs to validate the proposed control algorithm and have some reference significance for engineering application.

Abstract:A kind of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) cooperative ground target-tracking path-planning algorithm is proposed, and this algorithm guarantees that the communication range constraints between two UAVs and the detection constraints of the UAV's sensor are satisfied. Beginning with a formulary analysis of the reason for tracking errors, the benefit of cooperative tracking is manifested. Concerning the communication range constraints, sensor constraints and accuracy requirement, corresponding solutions are constructed in the following. In order to assess the tracking procedure, a cooperative 3D target positioning method is proposed. With respect to the tracking accuracy, simulation against non-cooperative methods is performed and the range maintaining ability as well as the accurate performance is verified in this analogous way.

Abstract:To improve the effectiveness of multiple heterogeneous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) cooperative with each other as a team to search and prosecute targets in unknown environment, a novel coalition formation method is presented in this paper. First, the coalition formation model is established based on minimizing the target prosecution delay and the size of the coalition with the constraint of required resources and simultaneous strike. Second, since solving the coalition formation optimization problem is computationally intensive, we develop a multistage suboptimal coalition formation algorithm that has low computational complexity. Third, in order to enable multiple cooperative UAVs accomplish the search and prosecute missions autonomously, a distributed autonomous control strategy is proposed which is based on the finite state machine. The simulation result of a scenario shows the rationality, validity and high real-time performance of the method of coalition formation in multiple heterogeneous UAVs cooperative search and prosecutes in the unknown environment. Monte Carlo method is employed to validate the impact of the number of UAVs and targets on the performance of the coalition formation algorithm.

Abstract:A vision-based cooperative formation control method is proposed in this paper for a heterogeneous unmanned system including an UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and multiple UGVs (Unmanned Ground Vehicles). Considering the supervisory role of the UAV and the time-varying relative localization between UAV and UGVs, we aim at controlling the multi-UGVs to a desired formation relying only on the visual information obtained by a camera mounted on the UAV. Meanwhile, the UGV group is driven to track the flying UAV using a feedback control algorithm. A gradient descent-like control scheme which considers the visual sensing range constraint of the camera is thus adopted based on a designed cost function. Finally, the proposed method has been successfully validated through simulations.

Abstract:A kind of communication-aware cooperative target tracking algorithm is proposed, which is based on information consensus under multi-Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) communication noise. Each UAV uses the extended Kalman filter to predict target movement and get an estimation of target state. The communication between UAVs is modeled as a signal to noise ratio model. During the information fusion process, communication noise is treated as a kind of observation noise, which makes UAVs reach a compromise between observation and communication. The classical consensus algorithm is used to deal with observed information, and consistency prediction of each UAV’s target state is obtained. Each UAV calculates its control inputs using receding horizon optimization method based on consistency results. The simulation results show that introducing communication noise can make UAVs more focused on maintaining good communication with other UAVs in the process of target tracking, and improve the accuracy of cooperative target tracking.

Abstract:In this paper we mainly studies the cooperative tracking issue of multi-UAV based on formation control. The theory and method of formation control are introduced in the paper to ensure the continuous and effective ground target tracking results. The tracking targets are regarded as the leader or the structural center of the formation. The multi-UAVs are considered as followers to form an unstable formation system. The formation stability can be maintained by constructing control law to ensure the continuous and effective tracking of intelligent targets by the multi-UAV. The formation control method based on the leader-follower system and the potential function are adopted to ensure the stability of formation consists of UAVs and the target, so that UAVs can keep tracking of the target. We prove the tracking strategy and the formation control results by MATLAB simulation.

Abstract:Combined with our aircraft combat capability, this paper aims at the unmanned aerial vehicles automatic attack process of single target, in accordance with the principle of maximum killing the enemy and establish the model of target threat based on the situation of two sides.According to the importance of our members, defense model, and the enemy motion trajectory with the threat model and the cooperative attack and defense model of pseudo tracking site, our cooperative tracking of pseudo trace point to obtain the best accounts for the site and to fight against the target.The simulation results show that, the occupied position is a rapid and effective method which could lead to the greatest degree of destroy to enemy aircraft.

Abstract:Multi-UAV cooperative formation has become a hot research issue. Up to now, obstacles and other UAVs are still the main factors that threaten the flight safety. In this paper, we present a solution for formation flight and obstacle avoidance of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) which can achieve cluster situational awareness, autonomous formation control and intelligent collaborative decision making. The main idea of this algorithm is to consider all UAV members as a whole and control the internal and external of the UAV system separately. Inside the system, a communication topology is set up. They use consensus algorithm to keep formation and avoid collision between UAVs. Moreover, we use the weight coefficient to set the priority for every UAV. Outside the system, an improved artificial potential field method is built for UAV system. We improved the safety distance and the traditional artificial potential to make them more suitable for the UAV obstacle avoidance task. Even when UAVs reach obstacles at high speed and small angle, they will have enough time and space to change flight direction. The internal control algorithms and external control algorithms are integrated to form the virtual total force by modifying the Reynolds clustering rules. Three track instructions are obtained from this virtual force. Finally, the effectiveness of cooperative obstacle avoidance algorithm is proved by MATLAB.

Abstract:Cameras have been applied as one of major sensors on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for different purposes, for example, as the alternative method for data capturing and communication among UAVs in formation when other sensing and communication resources are not working well. However, the limited Field of View (FOV) of each camera may pose a blinded zone as a visual constraint on the UAV's capability of data capturing and, hence, communication, which may jeopardize practically the group formation of UAVs of the interests. In this paper, a novel concept of the 'Compatible Formation' is proposed on the given limited FOV of a fish-eye camera. It is shown that, if a formation is deemed as compatible under the new concept, a distributed control algorithm could then be developed and applied to steer UAVs to this compatible formation while, simultaneously, keeping each UAV within a visible region of others. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated in both theoretical analysis and simulations.

Abstract:Abstract The current study mainly researches the problem of leader-follower based formation cooperative maintenance of fixed-wing UAV. First, the fixed-wing UAV formation with the leader-follower structure is used as the research object, and the flight dynamics model is established; the formation synergic control law is designed for the follower and the leader in the formation, especially the follower’s control law is improved to realize the state tracking control of the follower by controlling the speed and roll Angle of UAV; as stated by the master-slave formation, the distributed topology is introduced to realize the information interaction between adjacent UAVs, and on this basis, a collision avoidance strategy has been added to prevent drones from colliding with each other in the formation. Finally, the formation control algorithm and collision avoidance strategy are simulated through data simulation, and the results prove that the UAV formation can effectively complete the formation task and avoid collisions within the formation.
