We are, for instance, interested to study the three states Potts model $(k = 3)$ which represents with the tricritical Ising model $(k = 2)$ the two leading examples of more general spin $1/k$ fractional supersymmetric theories.

Abstract:Topological quantum matter exhibits a range of exotic phenomena when enriched by subdimensional symmetries. This includes new features beyond those that appear in the conventional setting of global symmetry enrichment. A recently discovered example is a type of subsystem symmetry fractionalization that occurs through a different mechanism to global symmetry fractionalization. In this work we extend the study of subsystem symmetry fractionalization through new examples derived from the general principle of embedding subsystem symmetry into higher-form symmetry. This leads to new types of symmetry fractionalization that are described by foliation dependent higher-form symmetries. This leads to field theories and lattice models that support previously unseen anomalous subsystem symmetry fractionalization. Our work expands the range of exotic topological physics that is enabled by subsystem symmetry in field theory and on the lattice.

Abstract:Within a group-theoretical approach to the description of (2+1)-dimensional anyons, the minimal covariant set of linear differential equations is constructed for the fractional spin fields with the help of the deformed Heisenberg algebra (DHA), $[a^{-},a^{+}]=1+\nu K$, involving the Klein operator $K$, $\{K,a^{\pm}\}=0$, $K^{2}=1$. The connection of the minimal set of equations with the earlier proposed `universal' vector set of anyon equations is established. On the basis of this algebra, a bosonization of supersymmetric quantum mechanics is carried out. The construction comprises the cases of exact and spontaneously broken $N=2$ supersymmetry allowing us to realize a Bose-Fermi transformation and spin-1/2 representation of SU(2) group in terms of one bosonic oscillator. The construction admits an extension to the case of OSp(2$\vert$2) supersymmetry, and, as a consequence, both applications of the DHA turn out to be related. A possibility of `superimposing' the two applications of the DHA for constructing a supersymmetric (2+1)-dimensional anyon system is discussed. As a consequential result we point out that $osp(2|2)$ superalgebra is realizable as an operator algebra for a quantum mechanical 2-body (nonsupersymmetric) Calogero model.

Composing parafermions: a construction of $Z_{N}$ fractional quantum Hall systems and a modern understanding of confinement and duality

Abstract:In this work, we propose a modern view of the integer spin simple currents which have played a central role in discrete torsion. We reintroduce them as nonanomalous composite particles constructed from $Z_{N}$ parafermionic field theories. These composite particles have an analogy with the Cooper pair in the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory and can be interpreted as a typical example of anyon condensation. Based on these $Z_{N}$ anomaly free composite particles, we propose a systematic construction of the cylinder partition function of $Z_{N}$ fractional quantum Hall effects (FQHEs). One can expect realizations of a class of general topological ordered systems by breaking the bulk-edge correspondence of the bosonic parts of these FQH models. We also give a brief overview of various phenomena in contemporary condensed matter physics, such as $SU(N)$ Haldane conjecture, general gapless and gapped topological order with respect to the quantum anomaly defined by charges of these simple currents and bulk and boundary renormalization group flow. Moreover, we point out an analogy between these FQHEs and 2d quantum gravities coupled to matter, and propose a $Z_{N}$ generalization of supersymmetry known as "fractional supersymmetry" in the composite parafermionic theory and study its analogy with quark confinement. Our analysis gives a simple but general understanding of the contemporary physics of topological phases in the form of the partition functions derived from the operator formalism.

Understanding Fermionic Generalized Symmetries

Abstract:We explore new aspects of internal fermionic shifting symmetries, present in physical systems such as free Dirac spinors and p-form tensor-spinor fields. We propose a novel procedure to gauge these global symmetries, which also introduces a new Stückelberg mechanism to give a mass to free fermionic fields. Furthermore, we find new magnetic fermionic symmetries in these physical systems whose charged objects are disorder operators. For the case of a Dirac spinor, we discuss an dual description, where the magnetic symmetry acts on the holonomies of a dual 2-form tensor-spinor. Further generalizations such as higher-group-like structures are also discussed.

Unconventional conformal invariance of maximal depth partially massless fields on $dS_{4}$ and its relation to complex partially massless SUSY

Abstract:Deser and Waldron have shown that maximal depth partially massless theories of higher integer spin on 4-dimensional de Sitter spacetime ($dS_{4}$) possess infinitesimal symmetries generated by the conformal Killing vectors of $dS_{4}$. However, it was later shown by Barnich, Bekaert, and Grigoriev that these theories are not invariant under the conformal algebra $so(4,2)$. To get some insight into these seemingly contradicting results we write down the full set of infinitesimal transformations generated by the 15 conformal Killing vectors of $dS_{4}$. Although the infinitesimal transformations generated by the 10 dS Killing vectors are known, the transformations generated by the 5 non-Killing conformal Killing vectors were absent from the literature, and we show that they have an `unconventional' form. In the spin-2 case, we show that the field equations and the action are invariant under the unconventional conformal transformations. For spin $s >2$, the invariance is demonstrated only at the level of the field equations. For all spins $s \geq 2$, we reproduce the result that the symmetry algebra does not close on $so(4,2)$. This is due to the appearance of higher-derivative symmetries in the commutator of two unconventional conformal transformations. Our results concerning the closure of the full algebra are inconclusive. Then we shift focus to the question of supersymmetry (SUSY) on $dS_{4}$ and our objective is twofold. First, we uncover a non-interacting supermultiplet that consists of a complex partially massless spin-2 field and a complex spin-3/2 field on $dS_{4}$. Second, we showcase the appearance of the unconventional conformal symmetries in the commutator of two SUSY transformations. Thus, this commutator closes on an algebra that is neither $so(4,1)$ nor $so(4,2)$, while its full structure is an open question. More open questions arising from our findings are also discussed.

Abstract:Using Faddeev-Senjanovic path integral quantization for constrained Hamilton system, we quantize SU(n) N=2 supersymmetric gauge field system with non-abelian Chern-Simons topological term in 2+1 dimensions, and use consistency of a gauge condition naturally to deduce another gauge condition. Further, we get the generating functional of Green function in phase space, deduce the angular momentum based on the global canonical Noether theorem at quantum level, obtain the fractional spin of this supersymmetric system, and show that the total angular momentum has the orbital angular momentum and spin angular momentum of the non-abelian gauge field. Finally, we find out the anomalous fractional spin and discover that the fractional spin has the contributions of both the group superscript components and the A_0^s (x) charge.
Non-Invertible Duality Interfaces in Field Theories with Exotic Symmetries

Abstract:In recent years, the concept of global symmetry has generalized considerably. Two dramatic examples of this generalization are the exotic symmetries that govern theories with fractons and non-invertible symmetries, which do not fuse according to a group law. Only recently has the interplay between these two been examined. In this paper, we provide further examples of the interplay in the XY plaquette model, XY cube model, 1+1 d theory with global dipole symmetry, and the 2+1 d Lifshitz theory. They are analogs of the duality symmetries in 2d CTFs and are constructed by first gauging a finite subgroup of the momentum symmetry on half of spacetime and then performing a duality transformation. We analyze the fusion rules of the symmetries and find that they are condensation defects from an analog of higher gauging exotic symmetries. We also address their dependence on the UV cutoff when relevant.

Web of Four-Dimensional Dualities and Symmetry Topological Field Theories

Abstract:We study $\mathbb{Z}_N$ one-form center symmetries in four-dimensional gauge theories using the symmetry topological field theory (SymTFT). In this context, the associated TFT in the five-dimensional bulk is the BF model. We revisit its canonical quantization and construct topological boundary states on several important classes of four manifolds that are spin, non-spin and torsional. We highlight a web of four-dimensional dualities, which can be naturally interpreted within the SymTFT framework. We also point out an intriguing class of four-dimensional gauge theories that exhibit mixed 't Hooft anomaly between one-form symmetries. In the second part of this work, we extend the SymTFT to account for various quantities protected by supersymmetry (SUSY) in SUSY gauge theories. We proposed that their behaviour under various symmetry operations are entirely captured by the topological boundary of the SymTFT, resulting in strong constraints. Concrete examples are considered, including the Witten index, the lens space index and the Donaldson-Witten and Vafa-Witten partition functions.

Abstract:We present a superfield Lax formalism of superspace sigma model based on the target space ${\cal G}/{\cal H}$ and show that a one-parameter family of flat superfield connections exists if the target space ${\cal G}/{\cal H}$ is a symmetric space. The formalism has been related to the existences of an infinite family of local and non-local superfield conserved quantities. Few examples have been given to illustrate the results.

Gauge Invariant Lagrangian Formulations for Mixed Symmetry Higher Spin Bosonic Fields in AdS Spaces

Abstract:We deduce a non-linear commutator higher-spin (HS) symmetry algebra which encodes unitary irreducible representations of the AdS group -- subject to a Young tableaux $Y(s_1,\ldots ,s_k)$ with $k\geq 2$ rows -- in a $d$-dimensional anti-de-Sitter space. Auxiliary representations for a deformed non-linear HS symmetry algebra in terms of a generalized Verma module, as applied to additively convert a subsystem of second-class constraints in the HS symmetry algebra into one with first-class constraints, are found explicitly in the case of a $k=2$ Young tableaux. An oscillator realization over the Heisenberg algebra for the Verma module is constructed. The results generalize the method of constructing auxiliary representations for the symplectic $sp(2k)$ algebra used for mixed-symmetry HS fields in flat spaces \cite{BRbos}. Polynomial deformations of the $su(1,1)$ algebra related to the Bethe ansatz are studied as a by-product. A nilpotent BRST operator for a non-linear HS symmetry algebra of the converted constraints for $Y(s_1, s_2)$ is found, with non-vanishing terms (resolving the Jacobi identities) of third order in powers of ghost coordinates. A gauge-invariant unconstrained reducible Lagrangian formulation for a free bosonic HS field of generalized spin $(s_1,s_2)$ is deduced. Following the results of \cite{BuchbinderReshetnyak, BRmasscub}, we develop a BRST approach to constructing general off-shell local cubic interaction vertices for irreducible massive higher-spin fields (being candidates for massive particles in the Dark Matter problem). A new reducible gauge-invariant Lagrangian formulation for an antisymmetric massive tensor field of spin $(1,1)$ is obtained.

Abstract:We study extended shift symmetries that arise for fermionic fields on anti-de Sitter (AdS) space and de Sitter (dS) space for particular values of the mass relative to the curvature scale. We classify these symmetries for general mixed-symmetry fermionic fields in arbitrary dimension and describe how fields with these symmetries arise as the decoupled longitudinal modes of massive fermions as they approach partially massless points. For the particular case of AdS 4 , we look for non-trivial Lie superalgebras that can underly interacting theories that involve these fields. We study from this perspective the minimal such theory, the Akulov-Volkov theory on AdS 4 , which is a non-linear theory of a spin-1/2 Goldstino field that describes the spontaneous breaking of = 1 supersymmetry on AdS 4 down to the isometries of AdS 4 . We show how to write the nonlinear supersymmetry transformation for this theory using the fermionic ambient space formalism. We also study the Lie superalgebras of candidate multi-field examples and rule out the existence of a supersymmetric special galileon on AdS 4 .

Dirac Operators on Configuration Spaces: Fermions with Half-integer Spin, Real Structure, and Yang-Mills Quantum Field Theory

Abstract:In this paper we continue the development of a spectral triple-like construction on a configuration space of gauge connections. We have previously shown that key elements of bosonic and fermionic quantum field theory emerge from such a geometrical framework. In this paper we solve a central problem concerning the inclusion of fermions with half-integer spin into this framework. We map the tangent space of the configuration space into a similar space based on spinors and use this map to construct a Dirac operator on the configuration space. We also construct a real structure acting in a Hilbert space over the configuration space. Finally, we show that the self-dual and anti-self-dual sectors of the Hamiltonian of a non-perturbative quantum Yang-Mills theory emerge from a unitary transformation of a Dirac equation on a configuration space of gauge fields. The dual and anti-dual sectors emerge in a two-by-two matrix structure.

Abstract:It is set manifest an underlying algebraic structure of Dirac equation and solutions, in terms of Cl2 Clifford algebra projectors and ladder operators. From it, a scheme is proposed for constructing unified field theories by enlarging the pointed algebra. A toy unified matter field model is formulated, modifying Dirac equation with complex quaternions and octonions. The result describes a set of fermion fields with reminiscent properties of one standard model particle generation, exhibiting U(1) electromagnetism, SU(2) flavor and SU(3) color like symmetries, remarkably SU(2) induces frame fields, though further explorations are needed.

Free field realization of the BMS Ising model

Abstract:In this work, we study the inhomogeneous BMS free fermion theory, and show that it gives a free field realization of the BMS Ising model. We find that besides the BMS symmetry there exists an anisotropic scaling symmetry in BMS free fermion theory. As a result, the symmetry of the theory gets enhanced to an infinite dimensional symmetry generated by a new type of BMS-Kac-Moody algebra, different from the one found in the BMS free scalar model. Besides the different coupling of the $u(1)$ Kac-Moody current to the BMS algebra, the Kac-Moody level is nonvanishing now such that the corresponding modules are further enlarged to BMS-Kac-Moody staggered modules. We show that there exists an underlying $W(2,2,1)$ structure in the operator product expansion of the currents, and the BMS-Kac-Moody staggered modules can be viewed as highest-weight modules of this $W$-algebra. Moreover we obtain the BMS Ising model by a fermion-boson duality. This BMS Ising model is not a minimal model with respect to BMS$_3$, since the minimal model construction based on BMS Kac determinant always leads to chiral Virasoro minimal models. Instead, the underlying algebra of the BMS Ising model is the $W(2,2,1)$-algebra, which can be understood as a quantum conformal BMS$_3$ algebra.

Abstract:Recently, subdimensional particles including fractons have attracted much attention from various areas. Notable features of such matter phases are mobility constraints and subextensive ground state degeneracies (GSDs). In this paper, we propose a BF-like theory motivated by the Godbillon-Vey invariant, which is a mathematical invariant of the foliated manifold. Our theory hosts subsystem higher form symmetries which manifestly ensure the mobility constraint and subextensive GSD through the spontaneous symmetry breaking. We also discuss some lattice spin models which realize the same low energy behaviours as the BF-like theory. Furthermore, we explore dynamical matter theories which are coupled to the BF-like theory.

Abstract:A new approach to the construction of interacting quantum field theories on two-dimensional Minkowski space is discussed. In this program, models are obtained from a prescribed factorizing S-matrix in two steps. At first, quantum fields which are localized in infinitely extended, wedge-shaped regions of Minkowski space are constructed explicitly. In the second step, local observables are analyzed with operator-algebraic techniques, in particular by using the modular nuclearity condition of Buchholz, d’Antoni and Longo.Besides a model-independent result regarding the Reeh–Schlieder property of the vacuum in this framework, an infinite class of quantum field theoretic models with non-trivial interaction is constructed. This construction completes a program initiated by Schroer in a large family of theories, a particular example being the Sinh-Gordon model. The crucial problem of establishing the existence of local observables in these models is solved by verifying the modular nuclearity condition, which here amounts to a condition on analytic properties of form factors of observables localized in wedge regions.It is shown that the constructed models solve the inverse scattering problem for the considered class of S-matrices. Moreover, a proof of asymptotic completeness is obtained by explicitly computing total sets of scattering states. The structure of these collision states is found to be in agreement with the heuristic formulae underlying the Zamolodchikov-Faddeev algebra.

Abstract:We construct a framework which unifyies in dual pairs the fields and anti-fields of the Batalin and Vilkovisky quantization method. We consider gauge theories of p-forms coupled to Yang-Mills fields. Our algorithm generates many topological models of the Chern-Simon type or of the Donaldson-Witten type. Some of these models can undergo a partial breaking of their topological symmetries.
