Abstract:This study's primary goal is to investigate how two heterocyclic chemicals block certain processes, namely nihydrine (2,2-dihydroxyindan-1,3-dione) (P1) and 2-Amino-3-phenylpropanoic acid (P2) against the degradation of AA2024 _ T3 in 3.5% NaCl solution utilizing Potentiodynamic Polarization (PDP) & Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The MEB/EDX allows for examining the morphology of the sample surface. The PDP and EIS analyses demonstrate that P1 and P2 function as cathodic-type corrosion inhibitors, with charge transfer and film formation mechanisms regulating the corrosion process, respectively. The inhibition efficiencies of P1 and P2 increase with concentration and reach a maximum at 10–2 M, with values of 89.1% (P1) and 96.3% (P2), respectively. The adsorption of P1 and P2 can be adequately characterized using the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Furthermore, these inhibitors exhibit significantly higher activation thermodynamic characteristics compared to the blank. Results obtained from SEM/EDX analysis indicate that P1 and P2 may form a barrier layer by connecting to the AA2024-T3 alloy surface. In addition, DFT calculations and MD simulation models were performed to provide a more detailed understanding of the corrosion protection mechanism.
