Abstract:Climate change can be mitigated and policies can be catalyzed with the aid of financial institutions. By maintaining price stability and financial stability, financial institutions can contribute to their existing mandates by allocating pricing climate‐related risks appropriately. Hence, policy priorities should focus on strengthening the resilience of the financial sector to account for climate‐related risks and uncertainties, which will strengthen an economy's climate‐related policies. Through an empirical investigation of the effect of financial stability on Danish consumption‐based CO2 emissions (CCO2E), this study investigates the financial risk‐emission relationship in the presence of economic upswing, energy consumption, and energy productivity in Denmark. As part of the proposed research, this empirical result intends to add to the literature on asymmetric financial stability's impact on CCO2E as a major gap in the literature. Through the use of nonlinear ARDL methods and other robust techniques and time‐series data collected from 1995 to 2018, this study establishes this relationship. The conclusions of the study demonstrate that financial stability leads to lower CCO2E; growth leads to higher CCO2E; energy productivity has a negative effect on Denmark's CCO2E; and finally, energy use significantly increases CCO2E. In light of the results, we can suggest some robust policies for Denmark and other smaller but wealthy economies. Moreover, to develop sustainable finance markets, policy‐makers in Denmark need to mobilize both public and private finance while maintaining a balance with other economic needs of the nation. The country must also identify and understand potential avenues for scaling up private financing for mitigating climate risks. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
