Abstract:The values that the first two Vassiliev invariants take on prime knots with up to fourteen crossings are considered. This leads to interesting fish-like graphs. Several results about the values taken on torus knots are proved.

Abstract:We discuss Vassiliev invariants for virtual knots, expanding upon the theory of quantum virtual knot invariants developed in [1] . In particular, following the theory of quantum invariants we work with 'rotational' virtual knots. We define chord diagrams, weight systems, and give examples of Lie algebra weight systems of rotational virtual knots. We end with a discussion of extended quantum invariants, which capture information that standard quantum invariants of rotational virtuals cannot.

Abstract:We construct two complete invariants of oriented classical knots in space. The value of each invariant on any knot is a set, infinite for the first invariant and finite for the second. The finite set is computed algorithmically from any knot diagram in a finite number of steps. The algorithm reveals the knotting number of the knot as well.

Abstract:Both classical and virtual knots arise as formal Gauss diagrams modulo some abstract moves corresponding to Reidemeister moves. If we forget about both over/under crossings structure and writhe numbers of knots modulo the same Reidemeister moves, we get a dramatic simplification of virtual knots, which kills all classical knots. However, many virtual knots survive after this simplification. We construct invariants of these objects and present their applications to minimality problems of virtual knots as well as some questions related to graph-links. One can easily generalize these results for the orientable case and apply them for solving non-invertibility problems. The main idea behind these invariants is some geometrical construction which reduces the general equivalence to the equivalence only modulo Reidemeister - 2 move.

Twisted Iwasawa invariants of knots

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number and $m$ an integer coprime to $p$. In the spirit of arithmetic topology, we introduce the notions of the twisted Iwasawa invariants $\lambda, \mu, \nu$ of ${\rm GL}_N$-representations and $\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}\times \mathbb{Z}_p$-covers of knots. We prove among other things that the set of Iwasawa invariants determine the genus and the fiberedness of a knot, yielding their profinite rigidity. Several intuitive examples are attached. We further prove the $\mu=0$ theorem for ${\rm SL}_2$-representations of twist knot groups and give some remarks.

A new invariant of equivariant concordance and results on 2-bridge knots

Abstract:We study the equivariant concordance classes of two-bridge knots, providing an easy formula to compute their butterfly polynomial, and we give two different proofs that no two-bridge knot is equivariantly slice. Finally, we introduce a new invariant of equivariant concordance for strongly invertible knots. Using this invariant as an obstruction we strengthen the result on two-bridge knots, proving that their equivariant concordance order is always infinite.

Abstract:We present a topological interpretation of knot and braid contact homology in degree zero, in terms of cords and skein relations. This interpretation allows us to extend the knot invariant to embedded graphs and higher-dimensional knots. We calculate the knot invariant for two-bridge knots and relate it to double branched covers for general knots. In the appendix we show that the cord ring is determined by the fundamental group and peripheral structure of a knot and give applications.

Abstract:Let $\phi : S^1\times D^2\to S^1$ be the natural projection. An oriented knot $K\hookrightarrow V = S^1\times D^2$ is called an almost closed braid if the restriction of $\phi$ to K has exactly two (non-degenerate) critical points (and K is a closed braid if the restriction of $\phi$ has no critical points at all). We introduce new isotopy invariants for closed braids and almost closed braids in the solid torus V. These invariants refine finite type invariants. They are still calculable with polynomial complexity with respect to the number of crossings of K. Let the solid torus V be standardly embedded in the 3-sphere and let A be the axis of the complementary solid torus $S^3\setminus V$. We give examples which show that our invariants can detect non-invertibility of 2-component links $K\cup A\hookrightarrow S^3$. Notice that all quantum link invariants fail to do so and that it is not known wether there are finite type invariants which can detect non-invertibility of 2-component links.

Abstract:We construct knot invariants categorifying the quantum knot variants for all representations of quantum groups. We show that these invariants coincide with previous invariants defined by Khovanov for sl_2 and sl_3 and by Mazorchuk-Stroppel and Sussan for sl_n. Our technique is to study 2-representations of 2-quantum groups (in the sense of Rouquier and Khovanov-Lauda) categorifying tensor products of irreducible representations. These are the representation categories of certain finite dimensional algebras with an explicit diagrammatic presentation, generalizing the cyclotomic quotient of the KLR algebra. When the Lie algebra under consideration is $\mathfrak{sl}_n$, we show that these categories agree with certain subcategories of parabolic category O for gl_k. We also investigate the finer structure of these categories: they are standardly stratified and satisfy a double centralizer property with respect to their self-dual modules. The standard modules of the stratification play an important role as test objects for functors, as Vermas do in more classical representation theory. The existence of these representations has consequences for the structure of previously studied categorifications. It allows us to prove the non-degeneracy of Khovanov and Lauda's 2-category (that its Hom spaces have the expected dimension) in all symmetrizable types, and that the cyclotomic quiver Hecke algebras are symmetric Frobenius. In work of Reshetikhin and Turaev, the braiding and (co)evaluation maps between representations of quantum groups are used to define polynomial knot invariants. We show that the categorifications of tensor products are related by functors categorifying these maps, which allow the construction of bigraded knot homologies whose graded Euler characteristics are the original polynomial knot invariants.

Abstract:Classical knot theory deals with {\em diagrams} and {\em invariants}. By means of horizontal {\em trisecants}, we construct a new theory of classical braids with invariants valued in {\em pictures}. These pictures are closely related to diagrams of the initial object. The main tool is the notion of {\em free $k$-braid group}. In the simplest case, for free $2$-braids, the word problem and the conjugacy problem can be solved by finding the minimal representative, which can be thought of as a graph, and is unique, as such. We prove a general theorem about invariants of dynamical systems which are valued in such groups and hence, in pictures. We describe various applications of the above theory: invariants of weavings (collections of skew lines in $\R^{3}$), and many other objects in geometry and topology. In general, provided that for some topological objects (considered up to isotopy, homotopy etc) some easy axioms (coming from some dimensional constraints) hold, one can construct similar dynamical systems and picture-valued invariants.

Abstract:We present algorithms giving upper and lower bounds for the number of independent primitive rational Vassiliev invariants of degree m modulo those of degree m-1. The values have been calculated for the formerly unknown degrees m = 10, 11, 12. Upper and lower bounds coincide, which reveals that all Vassiliev invariants of degree smaller 13 are orientation insensitive and are coming from representations of Lie algebras so and gl. Furthermore, a conjecture of Vogel is falsified and it is shown that the \Lambda-module of connected trivalent diagrams (Chinese characters) is not free.

Abstract:We obtain asymptotics for the average value taken by a Vassiliev invariant on knots appearing as periodic orbits of an Axiom A flow on $S^3.$ The methods used also give asymptotics for the writhe of periodic orbits. Our results are analogous to those of G. Contreras for average linking numbers.

New invariants for virtual knots via spanning surfaces

Abstract:We define three different types of spanning surfaces for knots in thickened surfaces. We use these to introduce new Seifert matrices, Alexander-type polynomials, genera, and a signature invariant. One of these Alexander polynomials extends to virtual knots and can obstruct a virtual knot from being classical. Furthermore, it can distinguish a knot in a thickened surface from its mirror up to isotopy. We also propose several constructions of Heegaard Floer homology for knots in thickened surfaces, and give examples why they are not stabilization invariant. However, we can define Floer homology for virtual knots by taking a minimal genus representative. Finally, we use the Behrens-Golla $\delta$-invariant to obstruct a knot from being a stabilization of another.

Abstract:Recently, Kashaev and the first author defined a sequence $V_n$ of 2-variable knot polynomials with integer coefficients, coming from the $R$-matrix of a rank 2 Nichols algebra, the first polynomial been identified with the Links--Gould polynomial. In this note we present the results of the computation of the $V_n$ polynomials for $n=1,2,3,4$ and discover applications and emerging patterns, including unexpected Conway mutations that seem undetected by the $V_n$-polynomials as well as by Heegaard Floer Homology and Khovanov Homology. Abstract:Journal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, Volume 33, Issue 08, July 2024. We obtain a localized version of the configuration space integral for the Casson knot invariant, where the standard symmetric Gauss form is replaced with a locally supported form. An interesting technical difference between the arguments presented here and the classical arguments is that the vanishing of integrals over hidden and anomalous faces does not require the well-known "involution tricks". The integral formula easily yields the well-known arrow diagram expression for regular knot diagrams, first presented in the work by Polyak and Viro. Moreover, it yields an arrow diagram count for the multicrossing knot diagrams, such as petal diagrams and gives a new lower bound for the übercrossing number. Previously, the known arrow diagram formulas were applicable only to the regular knot diagrams.
