Abstract:The retropharyngeal space is a longitudinal space that spans from the base of the skull to the mediastinum at the level of the second thoracic vertebra. 1 Infections in these areas can lead to lymphadenitis, progressing from cellulitis to organized phlegmon and retropharyngeal abscess (RPA). 2 Untreated or inadequately treated RPA can rupture, facilitated by firm palpation and cervical manipulation, potentially spreading to the pharynx and larynx and may lead to infection in the skull base and prevertebral fascia. Here, we present a case of clivus osteomyelitis as a complication of RPA in a previously healthy 17-year-old boy.
