Abstract:Dielectric properties of materials are unique characteristics that determine the interaction of electric fields with the materials. This information can be used in heating of agricultural products by radio frequency or microwave, ripeness estimation, moisture content measurement, expiration, and others. This article demonstrates the calculation of dielectric properties of corn, wheat, broad beans, lentils, regional beans, chickpeas, and soybeans. Measurements were done at room temperature (23 °C) by exposing the grains to electromagnetic fields generated by a microwave ring resonator manufactured using microstrip technology. The resonator is small and very sensitive. Simulations and weights are used, aiming to express the obtained grain permittivities with an elemental equation.
