Abstract:Hydrogels, owing to their exceptional properties, are increasingly recognized in biomedicine, particularly in tissue engineering, drug delivery, and cell scaffold manufacturing. Their biocompatibility, tunable biodegradation rates, and mechanical adaptability make them highly suitable for creating bone microenvironments crucial for bone regeneration. This review delves into the fundamental characteristics of both hydrogels and the bone microenvironment, highlighting the precise and intricate one-to-one correspondence between them. A notable aspect of this review is its comprehensive comparison of the chemical composition and physical properties of hydrogels and bone tissue, demonstrating that hydrogels can closely replicate the chemical and physical features of bone, making them ideal materials for these applications. Key aspects such as porosity, mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and degradation rate are analyzed concerning analyzed concerning to bone tissue engineering. Different approaches to modify these properties, including chemical cross-linking techniques, the integration of bioactive molecules, and the incorporation of nanomaterials, are explored. The application of hydrogels in developing bone tissue engineering constructs, bone organoids, and treating bone tumors is reviewed, showcasing their role in enhancing the precision and efficacy of therapies. This review underscores the significance of hydrogels as transformative tools for advancing bone regeneration techniques, offering insights into their versatile applications and future potential in treating bone-related illnesses.
