Abstract:This study presents a poromechanics-based constitutive model for warm frozen soil. In the model, the effect of pressure melting on unfrozen water content is taken into account. Through the method of poromechanics, the model can consider the interaction between soil particles, ice crystals and unfrozen water. Both the unfrozen water pressure and ice pressure during loading process can also be predicted by this model. Compared with the cryogenic triaxial tests on warm frozen silt and silty clay, it is demonstrated that the constitutive model can simulate the mechanical behaviors especially for strain softening and volumetric dilatancy behaviors of warm frozen soil in triaxial tests. In addition, the constitutive model reflects that the unfrozen water pressure in warm frozen soil is mainly caused by skeleton deformation and pressure melting, among which the pressure melting also has a great influence on unfrozen water pressure. In general, this study proposed here provides a potential basis for analyzing the deformation mechanism of warm frozen soil in warm permafrost regions
