Abstract:Solar-powered interfacial water evaporation technology coupled with photocatalytic function is considered as a promising solution to achieve the dye wastewater purification and solve the problem of organic pollution’s enrichment on traditional solar absorbers. In this study, a two-dimensional (2D) MoS2/ZnIn2S4 composite was designed by a two-step hydrothermal method, and served as a solar absorber with a water evaporation rate of 1.54 kgꞏm−2ꞏh−1. The deposition of ZnIn2S4 on MoS2 endowed the composite with 98.7% of photodegradation efficiency for dye wastewater via the construction of type Ⅰ heterojunction and avoided the problem of secondary pollution of dye wastewater. This study successfully integrated photocatalysis into the cutting-edge solar-driven interfacial evaporation system, accomplishing the expansion of multifunctional solar absorber and extending the application for the treatment of dye wastewater with zero wastewater discharge.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problems that this paper attempts to solve are two key challenges in the treatment of organic dye wastewater: one is to achieve high - efficiency water purification through solar - driven interfacial water evaporation technology, and the other is to avoid secondary pollution caused by dye enrichment in the treatment process of traditional solar absorbers. Specifically, the author designed a two - dimensional (2D) molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂)/zinc indium tetrasulfide (ZnIn₂S₄) composite material for simultaneously achieving solar water evaporation and photocatalytic degradation of dye wastewater. By constructing a type - I heterojunction, this composite material not only improves the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of dye wastewater (reaching 98.7%), but also avoids the secondary pollution problems that may occur in traditional methods, achieving the goal of zero - wastewater - discharge wastewater treatment. The core innovation point of the paper lies in integrating the photocatalytic function into the advanced solar - driven interfacial evaporation system, thereby expanding the application range of multi - functional solar absorbers, especially performing excellently in treating dye wastewater. This method not only solves the purification problem of dye wastewater, but also provides an environmentally - friendly and cost - effective solution, which helps to alleviate the contradiction between water resources and energy.
