Abstract:Growing market of electric vehicles (EV) is one of the stable trends in the modern world economy. The development of EV market in Russia is a feasible direction of economic policy, as it is a way to interest international auto concerns in developing of their business in our country, which will reduce the costs of using the results of global scientific and technological progress and create an opportunity for domestic companies to integrate into the technological chain creating added value. The phased development of the electric car market should include three successive stages: 1) subsidizing pioneering use, when demand is provided by specialized support measures; 2) transition to mass use, when all elements of the market (demand, supply, and state support measures) are shifted towards the mass distribution of electric vehicles; 3) free market and reaping benefits from transport electrification. The most critical is the successful completion of the first stage, which requires the construction of a minimum sufficient charging infrastructure in large cities and key highways of the country as well as bringing annual sales to 40 000 new electric vehicles.

This research endeavors to undertake a comprehensive comparative and analytical study of the influence exerted by the EV industry on the markets of China and Russia. It does so by evaluating various dimensions: geographical resource disparities, divergent national policies, and the societal awareness prevalent in both nations. The examination encompasses insights from both domestic and international perspectives, facilitating a well-rounded understanding of the subject matter. Abstract:Introduction (problem statement and relevance). In recent years, electric vehicles sharply gained extra attention as an alternative to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The main driving forces for the transition to electric vehicles are said to be environmental protection and decreasing reserves of hydrocarbon fuels. With this motivation in mind, the parties to the Paris Agreement (2016) formed the strategic goals, among which was complete decarbonization of energy and transport by 2050, also through replacing ICEs with electric propulsion. In order to reach such an ambitious target while considering the size of the global and Russian vehicle fleets, serious financial, technological, material and social resources are necessary. The article attempts to assess the current level of Russia’s raw material base required for motor vehicles decarbonization, and the degree of its readiness to reach the Paris Agreement goals. The article consists of two parts. The first part considers the Russian automotive industry energy security during its transition to electric driving, while the second part studies the availability of the most problematic units and materials to implement such a solution. The purpose of the study is to analyze the Russian raw material base situation from the perspective of its readiness for complete or step-by-step replacement of ICE powertrains with electric drives, including hydrogen ones. Methodology and research methods. Analysis of information about production and usage of the main raw material resources required for manufacturing and operating electric vehicles in Russia. Scientific novelty and results . There was no analysis of Russia’s raw material base from the perspective of its readiness for complete or step-by-step replacement of ICEs with electric propulsion carried out earlier. The resources in the form of necessary materials and electric energy that are available in Russia are insufficient for full-scale replacement of the existing ICE vehicle fleet with electric vehicles, both battery and hydrogen powered. Practical significance . The revealed unpreparedness of Russia’s raw material base for replacement of ICE vehicles with electric vehicles makes it possible to exclude unjustified optimism regarding this solution, to evaluate carefully the prospects and fields of application of electric vehicles and to focus on finding more realistic ways to improve vehicle environmental characteristics and economic efficiency.

Abstract:Rare earth metals and materials for electric power storage systems are one of strategically important categories of products whose availability will have key influence on sustainability of the functioning of electric power and transport systems in the world and support the process of “the fourth energy transfer” which involves decarbonization, decentralization and digitalization of the energy sector. The basic types of raw materials influencing the long-term prospects for the development of electric transport, distributed energy and renewable energy sources include cobalt, nickel, lithium, graphite, manganese, molybdenum, as well as rare earth metals. High rates of development of the global industry of electric power storage systems for energy and transport purposes, geographical heterogeneity of distribution and consumption of these materials and their strategical significance for the functioning of innovative areas of economics and ensuring technological sovereignty determine the high importance of this industry for the Russian economy. The article deals with the key trends of development of the world market of rare earth metals and materials for electric power storage systems. The authors identify the long-term trends of development of the sector, analyse the main quantitative indicators of development of the sector in Russia, point out the factors influencing the long-term prospects for development of production of the above mentioned materials in the country. The article presents the analysis of the major market opportunities and perspective projects on increasing the production of materials for electric power storage systems. The authors formulate the key risks and threats for production of materials in terms of sanctions restrictions, establish suggestions on mitigation of these risks for the domestic economy in the medium term perspective including diversification of the foreign economic activity and increasing investments in this market niche.

Abstract:Analysis of the state and trends of the world market of lithium-ion batteries (LIB) is carried out, and the main development trends are identified. Until recently, the growth basis of the global LIB market was built on requests related to portable electronics, but the saturation of this market and the formation of new needs in the emerging areas of the automotive industry, industrial generation, and network power distribution have changed the development vector of the entire industry. New needs have made adjustments to key requirements for battery systems and determined new technological barriers. The present work describes and classifies the main LIB electrode components as well as their applicability depending on the field of use of the final product. The state of the Russian market of both final products and main electrode materials is considered. Despite optimistic forecasts for the development of the LIB market in Russia and the expected significant economic effect, the current level of competences, technologies, and production volumes in the Russian Federation does not meet the needs of modern and future markets. In 2017, LIB import to Russia amounted to $85.1 million USD with an annual consumption growth rate of approximately 15–25%. The structure of the battery import is dominated by batteries for consumer electronics. The share of domestic manufacturers in the civil sector is less than 3%, and domestic manufacturers are mainly represented in the special equipment sector. The work presents a list of the main manufacturers of lithium-ion batteries dominating the Russian market. The tendencies to reduce the cost of existing solutions and the possibility of switching to alternative lithium-free metal-ion batteries are considered.

Abstract:The article discusses the features and reasons for the development of electric vehicles in the context of intensifying globalization processes and limited resources. It is substantiated that motorization is a key factor in the development of developed countries. Therefore, the presence of a competitive and well-functioning automotive market is an important condition for successful economic growth. The experience of foreign countries in stimulating the production and consumption of electric vehicles has been studied. Current trends in the development of the global electric vehicle market have been analyzed. It has been found that more than a third of the global market (over 36%) of electric vehicles is occupied by three manufacturers: BYD, Tesla and Volkswagen. An analysis of the global electric vehicle market by country shows that three countries are the leaders in electric vehicle sales: China, Europe, and the United States. It has been observed that China is ahead of other leading countries in terms of electric vehicle consumption, and the following companies have the greatest demand for electric vehicles in its market: BYD, SAIC and Tesla. Chinese manufacturers are showing faster growth rates in electric vehicle production than leading American and European companies. The article classifies the problems of development of the global market for electric vehicles: the global energy crisis, shortage of resource components for electric vehicles, the Covid-19 pandemic, uneven development of countries, institutional factors. Taking into account current global development trends, we conclude that the global electric vehicle market will develop at a rapid pace, effectively solving the problems hindering the growth of electric vehicle production. It has been substantiated that Ukraine has the potential to produce electric vehicles. Using the latest Industry 4.0 technologies and research and production potential, Ukraine can produce cars of a new generation, since developments in this area do not stop. Based on the graphic of the Ukrainian alphabet «Ruthenia», a sample trademark for the national electric vehicle has been developed and proposed. It has been established that this graphic most closely matches the functions and requirements of developing a national trademark. The proposed trademark reflects the features of the national manufacturer, indicates the latest technologies and will attract the attention of consumers.

Abstract:Global energy transition trends are reflected not only in oil and gas market dynamics, but also in the development of related sectors. They influence the demand for various types of metals and minerals. It is well-known that clean technologies require far more metals than their counterparts relying on fossil fuels. Nowadays, rare-earth metals (REMs) have become part and parcel of green technologies as they are widely used in wind turbine generators, motors for electric vehicles, and permanent magnet generators, and there are no materials to substitute them. Consequently, growth in demand for this group of metals can be projected in the near future. The topic discussed is particularly relevant for Russia. On the one hand, current trends associated with the global energy transition affect the country’s economy, which largely depends on hydrocarbon exports. On the other hand, Russia possesses huge REM reserves, which may take the country on a low-carbon development path. However, they are not being exploited. The aim of this study is to investigate the prospects for the development of Russia’s rare-earth metal industry in view of the global energy transition. The study is based on an extensive list of references. The methods applied include content analysis, strategic management methods and instruments, as well as planning and forecasting. The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the global energy sector’s development, identifies the relationship between the REM market and modern green technologies, and elaborates the conceptual framework for the development of the REM industry in the context of the latest global tendencies. It also contains a critical analysis of the current trends in the Russian energy sector and the plans to develop the industry of green technologies, forecasts future trends in metal consumption within based on existing plans, and makes conclusions on future prospects for the development of the REM industry in Russia.

Abstract:Subject. This article discusses the issues related to the transportation electrification. Objectives. The article aims to analyze the economic aspects of the development of a network of power charging stations in Russia. Methods. For the study, we used general scientific research methods. Results. The article finds that in Russia at present, the tariff developed taking into account the charging of an electric vehicle during the hours of minimum electricity consumption, is the most economically profitable. Conclusions. The widespread use of electric vehicles requires the widespread development of electric charging infrastructure, as well as the use of tools to manage the demand for electrical energy.

Abstract:The article considers the features of development of the agricultural engineering industry since the 90s of the last century in Russia and Udmurtia. Shortcomings in development are revealed; critically low values of indicators of the state of the mashino-tractor park of agricultural machinery till 2014 are accented. Positive trends in the development of the industry, starting from 2014, associated with the adoption of strategically important documents of the Russian level for the development of domestic agricultural machinery, are identified. The factors that influenced the formation of the main trends in the industry development are summarized. The problems of not only production development, but also the state of agricultural machinery markets are touched upon. The information on the availability of the main suppliers of agricultural machinery in Russia and in the regions is summarized. The main stages of implementation of the strategy of the industry development for the period up to 2030 are considered. It is stressed that the key role in the development of the industry will be played by measures to subsidize the costs of promoting agricultural machinery of domestic production for export. Key indicators of the industry development up to 2030 are given. At the regional level, it is recommended to develop the policy of production diversification at the main suppliers-dealers of large Russian manufacturers of agricultural machinery due to the implementation of investment projects related to agriculture: the construction of asphalt roads in rural areas, which will save costs for repair of equipment, the development of trade-in mechanism, investment in the development of dairy cattle breeding in the regions. The economic effects and efficiency of these investment projects are justified.

Abstract:This article is a synthetic, brief review of the literature, reports and references on the transformation of the automotive industry into zero-emission cars, in particular electric cars. It analyzes the technological and economic aspects of changes in the automotive industry regarding the transformation to zero-emission cars. Despite great de-emission parameters, the production of electric cars does not have a zero carbon footprint. The acquisition of critical elements, their production and the production of other components and materials needed for their construction have an environmental impact. The supply chains of materials for the construction of batteries for electric cars are characterized by significant risks related to, among others, a lack of diversification and limited flexibility. The dominant supplier of rare elements for batteries is China. The article analyzes the impact of prices on the demand for electric cars and compares them to internal combustion cars. Research shows that most electric cars are sold in China, the USA and Europe (about 95% of the supply). The costs of cars are of great importance, which, given the current reduction in the purchasing power of consumers, make the forecasts of the dynamic growth of electromobility very cautious, and even stagnation in the purchase of electric cars is expected in the second half of 2023.

Analysis of the current pricing strategy, macro- and microenvironment of the enterprise, identification and analysis of factors influencing the price of the economy-class electric vehicle segment allowed the authors to recommend changing the current pricing strategy for electric vehicles of the Moskvich brand from “Cream skimming” and “Stable price” to “Penetration” and the subsequent “Increase in penetration prices”, as well as a number of measures to reduce production costs, reduce the payback time for launching and setting up production of new models, increase market share, profits and expand the range of electric vehicles.

Abstract:The automotive industry is marching towards cleaner energy in the impending future. The need for cleaner energy is promoted by the government to a large degree in the global market in order to reduce pollution. Automobiles contribute to an upper scale in regard to the level of pollution in the environment. For cleaner energy in automobiles, the industry needs to be revolutionized in all needed ways to a massive extent. The industry has to move from the traditional internal combustion engine, for which the main sources of energy are nonrenewable sources, to alternative methods and sources of energy. The automotive industry is now focusing on electric vehicles, and more research is being highlighted from vehicle manufacturers to find solutions for the problems faced in the field of electrification. Therefore, to accomplish full electrification, there is a long way to go, and this also requires a change in the existing infrastructure in addition to many innovations in the fields of infrastructure and grid connectively as well as the economic impacts of electric vehicles in society. In this work, an analysis of the electric vehicle market with the economic impacts of electric vehicles is studied. This therefore requires the transformation of the automotive industry.
Opportunities for cooperation and the use of China's experience in automotive industry in current Russian conditions

Abstract:The current economic situation in Russia is characterized by significant instability due to the large sanctions burden provided by the countries of Europe and the United States because of the special military operation in Ukraine. In the emerging conditions, which caused an increase in inflation, currency volatility, the closure of a large number of companies in various market segments, and, consequently, unemployment, almost all economic activity has become very difficult. Thus, domestic automobile production was also affected. One of the latest measures aimed at destabilizing the Russian automotive industry within the framework of the next package of sanctions in March 2022 was a partial ban on the supply of high-tech products to the country and support for the IT-infrastructure of enterprises. Because of the withdrawal of foreign companies from the Russian market, production facilities such as: Volvo Cars, Jaguar, Land Rover, General Motors, Mitsubishi and others has stopped. The number of Russian car dealers by May has decreased significantly compared to the beginning of the year. Thus, about 70 dealer contracts were terminated. One of the largest car plants in Russia Avtovaz has already stopped its operation several times, and soon the French car concern Renault is going to transfer its share to the Central Automobile Research Institute FGUP NAMI with a buy-out option in 56 years and the production of most models of Renault will be stopped. The situation is also complicated by the already existing crisis in the industry due to the global shortage of semiconductors and other automotive components and newly emerged problems with logistics. There is an obvious need to conclude new deals, find new markets for purchasing raw materials and materials, intensify cooperation with friendly countries and use their experience, which can be done on the basis of uniting Russian clusters and foreign technological platforms, namely the TP of China is being considered.

Abstract:In the past few years, it can be seen that the automotive market has been developing quite rapidly, especially when it comes to electric cars. This is because the development of sustainable cars seems to be an extremely important issue at the moment. Nowadays, cars with different propulsion systems (among others electric, hybrid, gas, or hydrogen) can be met on the roads. But, political action is mainly aimed at electric cars. Such an approach will certainly lead to fundamental changes in production processes in the near future via the emergence and development of new technologies in the field of electric passenger cars. Therefore, the manuscript discusses the concept of vehicles with different types of power supply, with the main emphasis on electric vehicles. The essence of electric vehicles, their genesis, rationale for development, and growth are indicated. The different markets around the world, through the prism of, on the one hand, programs supporting the purchase and use of this type of vehicle and, on the other hand, factors limiting and inhibiting their uptake, are also discussed. The research was conducted in a group of both current and potential drivers from Eastern Poland, with different categories of grouping variables used in the analyses. On the basis of the research carried out and the results obtained, it can be argued that due to various factors, the respondents’ opinions are varied, and there are no unambiguous conclusions stating that such solutions will soon be available. Indeed, a number of doubts and barriers were noted among respondents. Driver preferences are therefore a key issue, but production capacity and the profitability of investments in the purchase of vehicles with an electric power supply should also be taken into account.

Abstract:Purpose. The purpose of the study: to investigate and analyze the state and dynamics of the electric car market in Ukraine, to present in graphical form and analyze the TOP-10 most popular electric cars by car brands and models in Ukraine in 2021, the dynamics of monthly registration of electric cars in Ukraine in 2021, the dynamics of the number of registrations of cars with electric motors by year of manufacture in Ukraine in 2021, the dynamics of the number of registrations of cars with electric motors for 2016–2021 in Ukraine, the dynamics of quarterly registration of cars with electric motors by charging in Ukraine in 2017– 2020, the number of registered electric vehicles as of 1.01.2022 by regions of Ukraine, as well as to determine the benefits of using electric vehicles and explore the infrastructure. Design/methodology/approach. This study used both general scientific methods, empirical and theoretical, in particular, the method of analysis (studying the dynamics of monthly registration of cars with electric motors in Ukraine in 2021, the dynamics of the number of registrations of cars with electric motors by year in Ukraine in 2021, dynamics of the number of registrations of cars with electric motors for 2016–2021 in Ukraine, dynamics of quarterly registration of cars with electric motors by charging method in Ukraine in 2017–2020, the number of registered electric cars as of 1.01.2022 by regions of Ukraine), synthesis (in determining the benefits of using electric vehicles), generalization and explanation, classification, and system. In addition, special research methods were used, in particular, formal-logical and comparative methods of scientific knowledge. Findings. The article has investigated and analyzed the state and dynamics of the electric car market in Ukraine. The TOP-10 most popular electric cars by makes and models of cars in Ukraine in 2021, the dynamics of monthly registration of cars with electric motors in Ukraine in 2021, the dynamics of registrations of cars with electric motors in Ukraine in 2021, the dynamics of registrations electric motors for 2016–2021 in Ukraine, the dynamics of quarterly registration of cars with electric motors by charging in Ukraine in 2017– 2020, the number of registered electric vehicles as of 1.01.2022 for the regions of Ukraine have been presented in graphical form and analyzed. The benefits of using electric vehicles have been identified and the infrastructure has been studied. The advantages of electric cars are environmental friendliness, cheaper refueling, easier maintenance, less noise, and less exhaust, but access to charging infrastructure is important. Compared to a car with a petrol or diesel engine, cars with electric batteries are today the most efficient, convenient, and accessible way for drivers to decarbonize transport. Practical implications. The results of this study are of interest to venture capitalists who seek to invest in the development of the electric vehicle market and strengthen their competitive position in the market, for public authorities – to attract investment to the country and consumers. Originality/value. Presented and analyzed the state and dynamics of the market of cars with electric motors that can be used by Ukrainian venture structures to attract investment towards their sustainable development.
Russia’s market of capital goods: Foreign-domestic substitution and the role of the Northeast Asia countries

Abstract:The author analyzes the specifics of demand for capital goods in Russia, concerning mechanical and electrical machinery, equipment, and vehicles for land transport, based on estimates of the elasticity of substitution between domestic and imported products. Russian economy depends on imports of capital goods from the EU, especially of mechanical and electrical machinery and equipment. For these many types of goods, domestic producers could not compete with imports due to the resource curse and increased investment risks of Russian economy, which determined the economic inefficiency of producing these products on a large scale. Despite the relatively small share of domestic machinery and equipment in the Russian market, imported components and technologies were widely used for their production in domestic enterprises with both Russian and foreign capital. At the same time, as the assessment of the elasticity of substitution shows, some capital goods of domestic production have competitive advantages. Due to high barriers to imports, the use of foreign technologies and parts, as well as the implementation of state support mechanisms, some types of land transport, agricultural and road equipment successfully competed with imports in the domestic market. The Northeast Asia countries did not account for a large share of imports in the Russian market of capital goods. Negative values of the elasticity of substitution indicated complementarity between domestic and imported goods, while, for machinery and equipment within these groups, the share of non-EU importers of components, in particular from China, is increasing, indicating the possible success of geographic diversification, but only for some types of goods. Ceteris paribus, China will not be able to make up for the reduction in imports from the EU to Russia for various types of machinery and equipment. Real competition in the Russian market of European manufacturers with imports from the Northeast Asia countries, mainly from China, can be observed within some product niches. At the same time, part of the import from China was produced for the Russian market by order of Russian companies at enterprises located in China, taking into account the technical standards of the EAEU and on the basis of technical documentation developed by specialists from Russia. Estimates of the elasticity of substitution showed that, despite the government’s measures to localize the production of passenger cars in the Russian territory, these goods in general were not direct competitors with imports, in which the EU and Japan were in the lead. Under the current sanctions for the Russian market of capital goods, the main negative factors may include the following: limited alternative supplies; the difficulty of industrial production in the face of increasing barriers to the import of components; when importing non-original parts, a possible increase in the risks of using investment goods.

Abstract:The purpose of this research is to provide an analysis of the current status of the electronics industry in Russia and to suggest ways the government can invest in the industry to create a sustainable and competitive market. Research highlights the importance of the electronics industry in the global economy, and the need for Russia to invest in production and research to increase its domestic output. The study finds that the national strategy for the development of electronics in Russia needs to be more specific and rely on market trends. Research suggests that the government should provide clear funding for new and existing companies to build new facilities and improve research capabilities. Additionally, a feasibility evaluation model for project novelty in the electronics industry is proposed, which considers technology, facilities, funding, and compatibility. The paper emphasizes the significance of narrowing down general provisions of government documents to key development areas such as building factories or creating marketable products. It also recommends that during the recession of the technological cycle, Russia should make every effort to acquire mature equipment to overcome the shortage of semiconductors. The study finds that investing in mature equipment will ensure that the industry is sustainable over the long term. In conclusion, research recommends that Russia uses the current drop in demand for electronics manufacturing facilities to build a sustainable and competitive industry. By implementing these recommendations, Russia can improve both its domestic and international competitiveness in the electronics industry.

Abstract:Based on the analysis of domestic and foreign experience of digital transformation and the conducted expert survey, the authors conclude that Russia, in comparison with other countries, does not have a leading position in the implementation of digital technologies. At the same time, the electric power industry being the basic sector of the economy which is responsible for its safe and sustainable development, in terms of digitalization is on the sidelines, yielding to retail, the banking industry, telecommunications and the manufacturing industry. At the same time, digitalisation is a promising direction and can have a significant positive impact on the electric power industry. The purpose of the study is to assess the current level of digital maturity of the electric power industry in Russia, identify the main barriers to digital transformation and develop proposals in order to overcome them. The article uses generalisation, comparative analysis, analyses empirical data of digitalisation in Russia and abroad, conducts a survey of experts in the electric power industry about its digital maturity.

At the same time, the current political and economic situation in the country has greatly influenced the state of industry, including mechanical engineering. This article examines the current state of the engineering industry, its role and importance for economic development and Russia as a whole.

Abstract:The promotion of new electric and hybrid vehicles is a worldwide strategy to reduce carbon emissions for a clean future environment in many countries. In Europe, development of the electric vehicle (EV) industry is a strategic direction of multiple car-producing companies, institutes, and governments, but how sustainable it is to shift fully to electric has yet to be seen. By making use of the statistic reports from the European Union, scientific literature, and mathematical calculation, the author wants to examine if what politicians see will be a matter of reality in the near future. It will be proved that, if all private transport become electric, energy consumption will increase to such a level that is impossible to be satisfied by the actual energy producing companies. While the EV industry is seen as an important step towards achieving environmental goals, and despite some positive assumptions made by few European Governments (e.g., Norway) according to which electrical cars will replace the fossil fuel ones in private transportation, the actual energy market trends are not able to support the demand for the next several decades. The author will focus on one European country, Romania, to provide it as a case study (Romania is a self-sustainable country with regard to energy production, producing roughly 124% of its needs.).
