Abstract:Single-phase High Entropy Alloys are of great interest to researchers due to their properties like high oxidation resistance, thermal stability, and corrosion resistance. Moreover, single-phase in High Entropy Alloys (HEAs) helps in attaining the balanced strength to ductility ratio. In the present work, non-equiatomic compositions of FeCoNiCuMo were designed for a single-phase alloy system by using the genetic population. Out of 1000 Non-equiatomic compositions, only four ranked alloy systems are selected through TOPSIS based on alloy forming thermodynamic criterions such as solid solution parameter (Ω), Atomic size difference (δ), and Electronegativity difference (∆X). These four non-equiatomic alloy compositions along with equiatomic FeCoNiCuMo are characterised for their phases and mechanical properties like hardness and compressive strength. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) reveal that Rank-1, Rank-2, and Rank-4 alloy systems exhibit a single FCC solid solution whereas Rank-3 shows the FCC phase with intermetallic compound (σ-phase). Moreover, equiatomic FeCoNiCuMo HEA shows FCC1 and FCC2 phases because Cu exhibits large positive enthalpy of mixing with other elements. Compressive strength, as well as the ductility of Rank-4, is observed to be highest among all the compositions. Also, the hardness of equiatomic FeCoNiCuMo alloy was found to be maximum (382 HV).
