Abstract:Small-strain properties (shear wave velocity and the small-strain maximum shear modulus) are the key parameters in the field of geotechnical earthquake engineering. These properties depend on the fabric of soil particles and soil water content. Determination of the small-strain dynamic properties in the laboratory is time consuming and expensive. These difficulties are more pronounced while dealing with the stiff stabilized soil samples. Therefore, routine, rapid, and inexpensive tests are the appropriate alternatives for the researchers to estimate these parameters. In this study, a simple method was presented to evaluate the smallstrain dynamic properties of the lime-stabilized soft clay using the well-established unconfined compressive strength measurements. Several specimens with various water contents and lime contents of 5, 10, 15, and 20% . Then, the stabilized specimens were subjected to several parallel unconfined compressive strengths and bender elements tests. The experimental results showed a simple, strong, and practical correlation between the small-strain dynamic properties and unconstrained compressive strength of the lime-stabilized soft clays.
