Abstract:Moral distress is a specific type of stress linked to the moral dimension of care. As initially conceptualized by Jameton ( 1 ), moral distress is the suffering caused by not being able to perform an action that the person considers right due to institutional limitations or restrictions. According to more recent, broader definitions ( 2 ), the main characteristic of moral distress is the psychological suffering causally associated with a moral event, such as moral dilemma, moral uncertainty, or moral constraint.
