Abstract:A chemically and thermally stable MOF with composition Zr 6 O 4 (OH) 4 (tdc) 4 (CH 3 COO) 4 (tdc – 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate), also known as DUT-67(Zr) was synthesized at multigram scale using green synthesis processes as a potential material for adsorption heat pumps. A series of vapour physisorption experiments suggests water as the most prospective working fluid showing desired S-shaped reversible adsorption isotherms with adsorption steps within the desired range p/p 0 = 0.1 - 0.4. The chemical stability of the MOF at working conditions was confirmed in 20 adsorption / desorption cycles in the typical for adsorption pump conditions and the thermal stability up to 473 K was proven via thermo-PXRD experiments. The mechanism of the water adsorption is further studied by quasi in situ neutron powder diffraction and suggests the preferable adsorption sites for water nearly μ 3 -O and μ 3 -OH groups of Zr 6 O 8 cluster and triangular window of the octahedral micropore and the order of the pore filling, starting from the smallest pore, over middle to large pore.
